A Howl in the Night

=Niven= “She’s close.” My wolf called, I was getting used to being woken up by him every night, but it was always how she was close, did he know any other words? “Who’s close?” I grumbled. “Niven?” I sat up looking around the room, the voice wasn’t mine or my wolf’s. It was a young woman, the same one with the dark brown hair that I had seen in the town before. “Do you know what day it is?” I looked around again but no one was there. “Wolf,” I warned, “Don’t play mind games with me.” “It’s not me,” he answered. I stood up looking around the room. If someone else was here I would smell them. Ghosts didn’t exist. Who was this woman? “Thank you for today.” her voice wouldn’t stop ringing in my ears. I knew she wasn’t really here, but convincing myself wasn’t the issue. “She’s close.”
