As Max's words hung in the air, Emily felt a rush of emotions. She wanted to believe that they were meant to be together, but a part of her was scared.
"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Max took a step closer, his eyes locked on hers. "I feel like we've known each other before, Emily. Like our souls have connected in a past life or something."
Emily's heart skipped a beat. She had felt it too, but she hadn't dared to say it out loud.
As they stood there, the world around them melted away. Emily felt like she was staring into the depths of Max's soul, and he was staring into hers.
Suddenly, memories began to flood her mind. Memories of a childhood she thought she had forgotten.
"Max, I think I remember something," she said, her voice trembling.
Max's eyes lit up with excitement. "What is it?"
Emily closed her eyes, letting the memories wash over her. She saw herself as a little girl, playing with a boy in a sun-drenched field.
"Who was that boy?" she asked, her eyes still closed.
Max's voice was barely above a whisper. "I think it was me."
Emily's eyes snapped open. "What do you mean?"
Max took another step closer. "I think we knew each other as kids, Emily. I think our lives have been intertwined for years, and we're just now realizing it."
As Emily looked into Max's eyes, she knew that he was telling the truth. She felt it in her bones, in her soul.
