Chapter Three: Behind Closed Doors

841 Words
Back at the hospital, Lloyd stayed by Diana's side. "Diana, baby, do you need anything?" he asked. "No, I don't." Just then George came in. "Excuse me, please — I need to check her. You'll have to leave the room." "But why? You can check her with me here," Lloyd said. "No, you have to go." George stepped outside for a moment. He came back to her bedside. "Nurse, remove her shirt." "What?! You can't do that," Diana said. "Miss Diana, I have to check you." "Then check with the shirt on." "I can't do that, miss. We performed your surgery — this is our job. Let us." "No!" she said, acting like a stubborn child. "Nurse, do as I said." "Yes, doctor." The nurse removed her shirt, and George examined her — Diana wriggling the whole time, though he did what needed to be done. "Hm. Change her bandage," he told the nurse, giving further instructions. "If anything happens, inform me immediately." "Yes, doctor." After that, George left, and Lloyd returned to sit with his sister. He and the nurse took care of her through the night. The next day, Lloyd was arguing with Diana, who was already trying to get out of bed to leave. "Diana, baby, your wounds are still fresh — you need weeks to recover. What are you doing?" "I have to get back to the mission, Lloyd." "Boss said he'll take care of it. He wants you to recover first." Just then George walked in and found her ready to leave, all her IVs and drips already pulled out. "What are you doing, Miss Diana?" "I'm leaving. I have work to do." "I haven't given you a discharge certificate yet, miss," Lloyd said. "Then I don't need it. I'm going." "You can't go anywhere without my permission. Nurse, take her back to bed." "Hey, you can't do that." Two nurses started guiding her back to bed, reattaching her IVs. "I said I have to go," Diana yelled. "I said you're not going anywhere, Miss Diana. You need to recover," Lloyd said sternly. Diana, surprised and furious, tried to stay calm. "Doctor, you don't understand — I have very important work to do, I have to—" "Miss, I'm the doctor here, and I decide when you leave," George cut in. "You need to recover before any work. I have to check you now — lie down." She had no choice but to lie back down, seething inside. What does this doctor think of himself, commanding me like that? I'll shoot him the moment I get the chance, she thought. George examined her and turned to the nurse. "Take care of her. Change her bandage — her wound is healing, but it's still deep. Give her healthy food." Then, to Diana: "And you, take care of yourself." She made a face at him. George went to Dr. Walker's office. "Sir, about yesterday's case — we need to inform the police." "No need for that," Dr. Walker said. "We've already handled everything." He didn't let George argue further and sent him off. In truth, Angelo had already had a talk with Dr. Walker, which was exactly why the man didn't dare press the issue. George went back to his own office, thinking it over. This case is so confusing. She took a bullet, but her family doesn't want a police report. She has some unfinished work she needs to get back to — what does she even do? And she's so stubborn, like a child. Meanwhile, Angelo and Kai were being asked about Diana's condition by Lloyd over the phone. "She's fine now — you can talk to her," Lloyd said, and handed her the phone. All Diana did was apologize for failing the mission. That was simply how she'd been raised. Meanwhile, Angelo and Kai kept working on their plan to take down the rival mafia and avenge what had happened to Diana. "I have a plan, bro," Kai said. "We can use one of his own men — someone who'll keep us informed about him." "Why would any of his men betray him? His men are loyal — they'd never betray him, not even for a fortune," Angelo said. "Who said anything about money? They'd do it for revenge." "What are you saying? Explain clearly." "See, bro — if one of his men found out he killed his own family, wouldn't he want to betray him?" "And who did that to his family?" "No one. We'll do it — and frame him for it." "That's a good idea. But we'll need a very, very smart plan to actually make it happen." Elsewhere, one of Angelo's men placed a call to Joshua. "What — sis got shot two days ago, and you're telling me now?" Joshua said. "What could I do, sir? I didn't get the chance to call sooner." "I'm coming to London right now." "But sir, what about the boss, and—" "I don't give a damn about your boss. I'm coming."
