Chapter 4
*Briella’s POV*
“Marie, that was not some guy that was my mate. I went out there to reject him but he refused the rejection.” I say with tears running down my face. I can’t stop them. This hurts more than anything I have ever felt before. My chest feels like it’s about to explode, like there’s a fire in my chest.
“Oh, my dear child. I will tell the alpha and have him reschedule the wedding. I will tell him you got sick. That will give you plenty time to get over this mate and find a way to reject him.” She says in a monotone.
“NO!” I shout louder than I wanted. “I shouldn’t have to reject him. I thought you were on my side, not my dad’s! He is my mate and I will be with him even if I die trying. But for now, fix my makeup and we will continue with the wedding as planned. Dad will be so mad if we back out now and who knows what will happen if we don’t go through with it. The Blue Moon Pack will probably declare war against us. I will figure out the rest later.”
“Briella, be smart about this. Once you are married you are with him for life. You can’t just marry him to make your dad happy and then leave to be with your mate. Not only will that put your life in danger but it can put everyone here in danger when the war breaks out. Please think this through before you do anything crazy.” Marie tries to plead.
“Makeup now Marie!” I order ignoring everything she said. I will not be forced to stay with this man and be treated only goddess knows how. I force back the tears and get my makeup and hair fixed to make it look like I never cried or was held in Xayden’s arms. If only they could erase the pain in my heart and the pit in my stomach that easily.
As I prepare to walk down the aisle, I smell Xayden, I look around frantically to find him. Once I finally find him, he is talking to my dad. “oh no” I say out loud but stay in place, I quickly clear my thoughts so I can continue. Music starts playing and I walk down the aisle to the beta, my soon to be husband, not my mate, I haven’t even cared to learn his name. Tears once again fill my eyes but I blink them back. I can’t even look at my husband in the eye, but I manage to smile and act happy. I am the alpha’s daughter after all, we are taught to stand tall and not let others know what we feel.
I reach him at the end and he reaches out and grabs my hand, when we hear a booming growl rip through the room. Everyone looks around shocked to see where it came from, but I know exactly who did it. I look up and lock eyes with Xayden to see he is walking towards me, anger in his eyes and rage written all over his face. My soon to be husband pushes me behind him in an attempt to protect me, but it’s not me who needs protecting, its him. I can’t help but chuckle at the effort though, and step back.
Xayden is now standing in front of the beta “you will not be marrying her today, or ever.” He says with his alpha tone.
“I was promised her hand in marriage and I will have it” my husband says while wrapping his arm around my waist. Bold move I think to myself, and notice that Xayden’s eyes have changed to a black color. Before I can think or move Xayden has him off the ground by the throat.
“She is my mate!” Xayden shouts in his face and squeezes. “I will be leaving with her today, and you will not do anything to stop it.” I see the beta smirk and Xayden throws him across the room as a group of guards come charging at him swords drawn.
“NO!” I shout and try to run to him as guards run up and pull their swords to attack. I can take only a few steps before I am grabbed and pulled to the back of the room and held back by men I have never seen. A fight erupts, causing me to scream “get off of me!” Kicking and fighting to free myself from the grasps of these men to go help Xayden. I hear him yell something but I can’t make it out since its so loud in here.
“Xayden doesn’t have enough men here to protect himself, he will die! We didn’t even get to meet his wolf, or learn his name!” Cali whines trying to push herself forward to help protect our mate. I ignore her trying to focus on what is going on in front of me and free myself from these men.
I know these aren’t my men, they would never hold me back. I’d be led to my room or the shelter below the pack house but never held back like a hostage. I take a quick look at the men and realize they are guards from the Blue Moon Pack. The beta must have told them to take me away.
“Beta Matthew wants her safe, we need to get her out of here so she doesn’t get hurt” one of them speaks. The other just nods, grabs my arm tighter and begins to drag me out the door.
“or so they think” is all I hear from Cali
“what are you going to do?” I ask, I can hear the panic and fear in my voice. I’m not sure if I’m scared for myself, Xayden, or my people. I shake my head. “I need to find a way to free myself from these men.”
“you will see, just sit back and enjoy the ride” she says and goes quiet. I quickly think of my dad, maybe he will at least help Xayden.
“Dad! Xayden is going to die fighting this many people! He only has but a few men to help him, please do something!” I scream and cry through a mind link to my dad. No response of course. He is focused on only what he wants, he will not help my mate. He will help this beta I was promised to. Tears are now spilling down my face. I can feel Cali forcing her way out, I don’t have the strength to fight it so I let her take complete control.
She hasn’t shifted so it looks as if it’s me that they are dragging. Using her strength, she pulls the man holding my left arm forward and kicks him in the crotch causing him to let go of my arm and fall to the ground, as he is falling, she kicks him in the face. Im shocked not knowing she knew how to fight like this since we have been sheltered and pampered our entire lives, never learning how to fight. She then turns to the guard on the right punching him in the face repeatedly until he falls to the ground. Turning around to see Xayden fighting a group of men she takes off running towards him. Jumping over chairs she shifts midair ripping my dress to shreds in the process.
