THE NEXT MORNING JOEY and Nick were in a dining room waiting with the group who were going into the port city of Naples, Italy when Simpson came by behind a couple of giggling women. Simpson said, as he passed, “Your wife not going into Naples today?” Nick shook his head as Simpson continued on by.
When Joey and Nick were seated on the bus taking them into Naples, Joey said sarcastically, “Your wife didn’t get on this bus. Seems like she’s maybe avoiding you.”
Nick replied without looking at Joey, “Seems so.”
Nick had been fairly certain when he saw the cop that Maggie would be on this excursion also but she was not. Instead it left him doubting his theory and wondering what was up. Maybe it was a coincidence she was on this cruise and she dismissed knowing his name also as coincidence.
