Julia's POV:
I must have heard him wrong.
“What did you say?” I frowned.
“That you'll be mine soon,” Hades said as his grip on my neck loosened.
“Are you out of your mind? Do you even know what you are saying? I'll tell Rainer if you say something like that again to me,” I warned him, at the same time, my voice quivering. I was already on the verge of a mental breakdown, and he had to say something like that to me.
“I like… no, I love you, Julia,” Hades suddenly confessed. This man had always given me strange vibes. I used to think it was his nature, but it wasn’t.
“I will pretend that I never heard you,” I asserted and exited the door before he could utter another nonsense. I remembered the day I married Rainer, Hades didn’t look happy at all. I even saw him tearing away the petals present in the bouquet, but I ignored all of that, thinking he must be annoyed with something.
As I crossed the living room, I heard Rainer’s voice.
“Follow me upstairs,” he commanded. I fidgeted with my fingers as fear crept into my entire body. Did he hear the conversation between Hades and me? With trembling feet, I went to the bedroom, where Rainer had been waiting for me.
As I walked in, I saw Rainer on the sofa chair, and I wore a fake smile on my lips.
“Why did you show your hand to my brother?” asked Rainer. His eyes carried the murderous intent, and it made me shiver more.
“I never did that,” I replied.
“I told you to cover yourself well, Julia. Why are you making me lose my mind? Huh? Are you going to the entire pack that I, your mate, don’t treat you well?” He barked at me before chuckling. I lowered my gaze to the floor while clasping my hands tightly.
“The entire pack already knows the way you treat me.” I had no idea why I said that, and I bit the inside of my cheek in nervousness.
Rainer walked over to me and held my face tightly, which made me whimper in pain.
“You deserve this kind of treatment from me. You killed our child, and now you are unable to give me one,” Rainer spat at me. My eyes filled with warm tears. His accusations hit deeper than any sharp blade, and every time, it bled my heart more.
“It was your best friend who pushed me away. Don’t you even trust me a little? If you are going to do that all your life, then why don’t you free me from this bond? I don’t wish to live with you anymore,” I angrily said.
I had never imagined saying such things to him. Despite everything, I loved Rainer more than my life. I clung to the hope that, someday, he would change. That love would grow between us, just like it did for other couples. But that day never came.
Deep down, I knew my parents would be devastated. They might even disown me for walking away from my mate. But how much longer could I endure this?
Rainer's hand lashed out without warning, his fingers closing around my throat in his tight grip. I gasped, struggling for air as my hands instinctively clutched at his wrist.
“Ple—” I tried to speak.
“I won’t reject you if that’s what you’re hoping for,” he growled. “You’ll stay in this marriage and suffer until I decide you’ve had enough.”
Then, just as suddenly, he released me. I staggered back, coughing, my throat burning as his words echoed in my mind like a curse I couldn't escape.
“Make sure my brother, or anyone else, doesn’t see a single bruise on your body,” Rainer hissed. “And don’t you dare smile in front of them. Do you hear me?”
I stayed frozen, my back straight, my gaze locked on the floor as he brushed past me. The silence he left in his wake was louder than any scream.
I began to feel more suffocated, and it was difficult for me to even live.
I felt hopeless, humiliated, and loveless in every aspect of my life. I never wanted my life to come to this point.
My eyes slowly drifted toward the balcony. The curtains swayed gently in the breeze, whispering a freedom I had long forgotten. I rose to my feet and looked at the phone on the table.
Picking it up, I dialed my mother’s number. It was the last time I would be hearing her voice. And after this day, I would be completely free from this life. However, my mother didn’t answer the call. Placing it back on the table, I went to the balcony and moved to the other side of the balustrade.
And I closed my eyes and moved my right foot first when a strong pair of arms circled my waist.
“Hades?”
Before I knew it, he made me stand before me. Why was he here? And his eyes, why did they look so stormy?
“Today, you are getting free from this bond!” Hades said loud and clear. He then dragged me out of the room.
“Hades, no. Please, stop. I beg you,” I pleaded with him as we descended the stairs.
Rainer was standing with his father and beta. “Please, Hades. Don’t do this,” I said in as low a voice as I could.
But my words fell into a deaf person’s ears.
“Rainer, reject Julia,” Hades said as we stopped behind him.
Rainer and Father turned to look at us.
"What did you say?" Rainer frowned.
"Reject Julia before I kill you," Hades pronounced and tightened his grip on my wrist.
