Sam had to spend several weeks with Frank over the summer and she hated to stay with him for a host of reasons. Primarily, his abusive behavior and the smallest of things could send him into a rage and you didn’t need to be the cause to feel his wrath. Secondly, he lived far out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do, she didn’t know anyone and she hated that she felt like a huge outsider. Lastly, Sam disliked her stepsister because she was a year younger, socially ahead of her, athletically better and there was little that she felt her equal and her stepsister never let her forget it. This might have been the first time she felt at least athletically equal to her stepsister and Sam decided that no longer was she going to take any s**t from her.
