Chapter 8
Sam continued to go to detention during lunch and then to practice after school for the next few days. As the next few days passed with her going to the gym after school, she grew a bit more comfortable being around the other girls. Each time she was more engaging and one time, one of the girls thought she caught Sam smile but thought better of pointing it out.
They heeded Ms. Hamm’s instructions and never attempted to push Sam into a situation that would lead to a confrontation with her. In addition, none of the girls wanted to tangle with her. She could be extremely volatile and it did not take much to bring out that chilling icy glare or the impiety of her caustic tongue.
