Chapter 21: The Alpha's Return (Elena's POV)
I hadn't slept since the night the moon bled.
Even now, days later, the image of the red glow spreading across the sky and whispering that fate had changed haunted me. Everyone in the Citadel who was a Lycan felt it. The guards moved in tense silence, and the air felt heavy with something they couldn't see.
But they didn't know why. They all had no idea that I had tied my soul to their king.
And Lucian hasn't talked to me since then.
He had ordered more guards to stand outside my chamber, and then he disappeared into the northern wing of the fortress, where no one dared to follow. The clang of swords in the distance and the growl of warriors training brought him back to mind.
But what scared me most was that he didn't say anything.
