Chapter 28—Selene's Plan( Elena's POV)
The day after the banquet, it seemed quieter than it should have been. It was too quiet for a palace full of Lycans. The servants moved quietly, with their heads down, and whispers followed me like shadows that weren't mine. Overnight, something had changed. I could feel it, like a storm waiting for the first lightning bolt.
Lucian hadn't come back to his room. I knew because I had been waiting. I had seen the moonlight move across the stone floor, minute by minute, until it turned into dawn. He had talked to one of the council members—Marcellus, I think—and then left and never came back.
As I walked through the inner courtyard toward the library, the guards' eyes were sharper than usual. Some people didn't even look at each other.
