Setting: Coimbatore Textile Mills (Kaleeswara / C.S.&W. Mills) Year: 1922 (The screen opens to thick smoke hanging over the textile mill. Dust fills the air as the deafening chants of thousands of workers echo across the factory grounds. Red flags sway against the gray brick walls while men, women, and even teenagers stand shoulder to shoulder, demanding fair wages and the basic dignity they have long been denied.) NARRATOR (V.O.) "The people only asked for what they deserved... what they needed to live. But the British? They never cared." (A brief pause.) "I'm the narrator. And this isn't the story of a warrior..." "This... is the story of a God." (CUT TO: High above the factory courtyard, on a weathered wooden balcony, stands Colonel Arthur Sterling. He calmly adjusts the leather gloves on his hands. His eyes show no sympathy. To him, the workers below aren't human beings—they're nothing more than obstacles standing in the Empire's way.) COLONEL ARTHUR STERLING (Coldly. Completely emotionless.) "Just finish these bastards!" "ON POSITION!" "FIRE!" (The soldiers raise their rifles in perfect formation.) (For one terrifying heartbeat... silence consumes the courtyard.) BANG! BANG! BANG! (A relentless barrage of gunfire tears through the crowd.) (Panic erupts instantly. Smoke fills the air. Screams echo from every direction as people begin collapsing one after another. Men, women, and children are cut down without mercy. Within seconds, more than thirty innocent lives lie motionless on the bloodsoaked ground.) (CUT TO: In the middle of the chaos, fifteenyearold Sengodi clutches her mother's hand with all her strength while her father desperately forces them through the stampeding crowd.) FATHER (Panicked, shouting over the gunfire while pushing them forward.) "Take our daughter and get out of here!" MOTHER (Terrified, tears streaming down her face.) "But... what about you?!" FATHER (Screaming.) "I SAID GO!" (The mother grabs Sengodi's hand tightly and runs toward the mill's exit, weaving through the terrified workers.) BANG! (A highcaliber bullet rips through her back.) (She stumbles forward before collapsing onto her knees. Blood begins soaking into the dry earth beneath her.) MOTHER "AAAH!" (Standing only a few feet away, Colonel Sterling casually lowers the smoking pistol in his hand. Without the slightest hint of remorse, he steps over another fallen worker and approaches her.) ARTHUR STERLING (Smirking.) "Huh..." "This is what happens when you dare stand against us." (He cruelly kicks her lifeless body aside with his boot before walking away.) (The mother struggles to stay conscious. Her breathing becomes shallow as she reaches out toward her daughter.) MOTHER (Weakly, tears filling her eyes.) "Sengodi..." "Run..." "GO!" SENGODI (Her voice breaks.) "AMMAAAAA!!" (With tears blurring her vision, Sengodi turns and runs with the escaping crowd. Her cries are swallowed by the deafening gunfire as she disappears into the dense forest paths leading toward the banks of the Noyyal River.) Setting: Riverbank of the Noyyal River, Kannampalayam Outskirts (Sengodi collapses beside the muddy riverbank. Her entire body is covered in dirt, dried blood, and ash from the m******e. Her eyes are swollen red from endless crying. In a single day... she has lost her mother. Her father. Her home. Everything she ever knew.) NARRATOR (V.O.) "Hours turned into days..." "And through all that time... Sengodi hadn't eaten a single meal." (A village woman walks along the river path carrying a water pot, her young child following beside her.) (The child notices Sengodi sitting alone.) CHILD "Amma..." "Why does that akka look like that?" (The mother quickly pulls the child closer, glancing at Sengodi with cold pity.) MOTHER "She's an orphan..." "She doesn't have a mother or father anymore." "Don't talk to her." "Come." (They walk away.) (Sengodi hears every word.) (She lowers her eyes and stares into the murky river. Her own reflection looks like a stranger. Silent tears fall into the flowing water.) SENGODI (Barely above a whisper.) "Amma..." "Why did you leave me?" "I don't even want to live anymore..." "Everyone looks at me like I don't belong..." "I'll come to you instead..." (Her body, weakened by grief, hunger, and exhaustion, finally gives in.) (Her vision slowly fades.) (She collapses unconscious onto the riverbank.) FADE TO BLACK. FADE IN. (Early morning.) (Golden sunlight pierces through the thick morning mist above the Noyyal River. The first rays of dawn shimmer across the calm water as birds begin singing in the distance.) (Sengodi slowly opens her eyes, shielding her face from the bright sunlight.) (Something catches her attention.) (A small woven reed basket drifts gently along the river's current.) (Bathed in the golden light of the rising sun, it almost appears as though the basket itself is descending from the heavens.) (Slowly, Sengodi rises to her trembling feet. She wipes the tears from her face and walks into the shallow river until the water reaches her knees.) (She carefully pulls the basket closer.) (Then... she looks inside.) (A healthy baby boy lies peacefully within the basket.) (He isn't crying.) (Instead... he looks directly at her with bright, fearless eyes.) NARRATOR (V.O.) "Inside that basket... Sengodi didn't just find a baby." "She found the one who had come to save her own life." "From that very moment... even if she no longer wished to live for herself..." "She decided she would live... for him." (Sengodi gently lifts the baby into her arms and holds him tightly against her chest.) (For the first time in days... a fragile smile appears through her tears.) (But only for a moment.) (Reality strikes her.) "I couldn't even protect myself..." "How am I supposed to protect this child?" (Doubt fills her heart.) (Then... the baby slowly wraps his tiny fingers around one of hers.) (The instant his tiny hand holds onto her finger... something changes inside her.) (Every fear... every hesitation... disappears.) (At that very moment... she makes her decision.) SENGODI (Tears flowing freely.) "So..." "You're just like me, aren't you?" "Don't be afraid..." "I'll protect you." (She gently rocks the baby in her arms before leaning close and whispering softly into his ear.) SENGODI "Karna." CUT TO BLACK. ACT 2 – CARING Setting: A modest roadside tiffin hotel on the outskirts of Coimbatore. Time: Early Morning. (The first light of dawn spreads across the quiet roadside. Steam rises from giant idli cookers while workers move busily between stoves. Horse carts creak past the dusty road, cycle bells ring in the distance, and the rich aroma of freshly made idlis and hot sambar fills the cool morning air.) (Inside the small hotel, Muthu and Megalai quietly take their seats at a wooden table.) (Megalai stares blankly at the tabletop, her eyes distant. Though she sits there physically, her mind is somewhere else.) NARRATOR (V.O.) "Some wounds are carved into the body... while others are buried deep inside the heart." "Megalai had been living with the second kind." (Muthu watches her silently for a few moments before speaking gently.) MUTHU "Megala..." (She doesn't respond.) "Are you still thinking about what the doctor said?" "Our son isn't coming back..." "But if you keep breaking yourself like this..." "What am I supposed to do?" "It's already been six months..." "You have to move forward... little by little." (Megalai slowly lifts her head. Her eyes instantly begin filling with tears.) MEGALAI "Our only child..." (Her voice trembles before breaking completely.) "He slipped into the well..." "And everything ended in a single moment..." (She struggles to breathe between her tears.) "How am I supposed to forget that?" (Silence fills the room.) (The only sound is the soft clatter of plates and the hiss of steaming idlis being lifted from the cooker.) OUTSIDE (Sengodi slowly walks along the roadside with baby Karna sleeping peacefully against her shoulder.) (Her clothes remain stained with mud and dried blood. Her lips have cracked from dehydration. Her bare feet are swollen from walking endlessly. Every step she takes is heavier than the last.) (She stops outside a small shop.) SENGODI "Sir..." "Do you have any work for me?" (The shopkeeper barely looks up from what he's doing.) SHOPKEEPER "No work." "Go somewhere else." (She quietly nods and walks away.) (Another shop.) (Another request.) (Another rejection.) (After being turned away again and again... she finally reaches the roadside tiffin hotel.) (The smell of freshly steamed idlis instantly makes her stop walking.) (Without realizing it, she places a hand over her empty stomach.) INSIDE THE HOTEL (Gathering the little strength she has left, Sengodi steps inside.) SENGODI "Sir..." "I'm very hungry..." "If you have any work..." "Please give me a chance." (The hotel owner carefully studies the exhausted young girl standing before him.) (His eyes then shift toward the baby sleeping peacefully on her shoulder.) (His expression softens.) HOTEL OWNER "I don't have any work right now..." (Calling toward the kitchen.) "Hey..." "Serve a meal on a banana leaf." (Looking back at Sengodi.) "Eat first." (Sengodi immediately folds her hands in gratitude.) SENGODI "Thank you so much, sir..." (At another table... Megalai has been silently watching everything.) (She keeps staring at Sengodi's face.) (Something about her feels strangely familiar.) (A distant memory slowly begins resurfacing.) (Megalai slowly stands from her seat.) MEGALAI "Hey..." (Sengodi turns around.) SENGODI "Yes...?" (Megalai slowly walks closer, unable to take her eyes off the young girl.) MEGALAI "You..." "...aren't you Lalitha's daughter?" "Sengodi?" (Sengodi looks surprised.) (She slowly nods.) SENGODI "Yes..." "You knew my mother?" (For the first time that morning, a gentle smile appears on Megalai's face.) MEGALAI "Knew her?" "We both studied in the same school..." "We weren't just classmates..." "We were like sisters." (Her smile slowly fades as another thought crosses her mind.) MEGALAI "Where..." "...are your mother and father?" (Sengodi doesn't answer.) (She simply lowers her head.) (Tears begin falling onto the floor.) (Without another word...) (Megalai understands.) (She gently walks forward and holds Sengodi's trembling hand.) MEGALAI "Come." "Sit with us." AT THE TABLE (The food is served.) (For several long seconds... Sengodi simply stares at the steaming idlis.) (It has been days since she last had a proper meal.) (She slowly begins eating.) (Between each bite...) (She tells them everything.) (The workers' strike.) (The British soldiers opening fire.) (Her mother being shot.) (Her father disappearing into the chaos.) (Running through the forest.) (The lonely days beside the Noyyal River.) (The basket floating toward her.) (The baby she named Karna.) (There is no background music.) (No dramatic score.) (Only silence.) (By the time she finishes...) (Megalai is openly crying.) (Muthu quietly wipes the corner of his eye before pretending nothing happened.) SENGODI "Aunty..." "Both of us..." "I'm just trying to find some work..." "So I can take care of him..." (Megalai looks at baby Karna.) (Then at Sengodi.) (Finally... at Muthu.) (Her decision is already made.) MEGALAI "Come home with us." (Sengodi immediately shakes her head.) SENGODI "No..." "I don't want to become a burden." (Megalai kneels beside her and gently holds both of Sengodi's hands.) MEGALAI "A burden?" "You're my best friend's daughter." (Her eyes overflow with tears.) "To me..." "You're my daughter too." (She gently strokes Karna's tiny cheek.) MEGALAI "Where can you possibly go..." "Carrying a baby in your arms?" (That single question shatters whatever strength Sengodi had left.) (She breaks down completely, crying uncontrollably.) (Muthu smiles warmly.) MUTHU "Well..." "Until now..." "There were only two people in our home." (He looks at Sengodi and Karna with a gentle smile.) "From today..." "There'll be four." (Megalai immediately turns toward him.) MEGALAI "Did anyone ask for your opinion?" (Muthu instantly raises both hands in surrender.) MUTHU "Alright, alright..." "I'll keep my mouth shut." (For the very first time since the massacre...) (Sengodi laughs.) (It's only a tiny laugh.) (A laugh that escapes through tears.) (But it is the first genuine smile life has given her since she lost everything.) (Megalai smiles.) (Muthu smiles.) (Baby Karna lets out a cheerful little giggle, as if he understands that he has finally found a family.) (The camera slowly pulls away from the small table...) (Four broken souls... sharing a simple breakfast.) (A family, not by blood... but by love.) FADE OUT.
