Tasha's POV
“Wait, what!? That's not possible" I dismissed her.
“No, Tasha, you're really pregnant. I'm sure of it," she jumped, excitedly but I ignored her.
“Tasha, you are pregnant" She said assuredly.
“Lisa, stop. I'm not"
“When Sophia was pregnant, she had the exact same symptoms. Fatigue, nausea… All the symptoms you've been exhibiting" Sophia was her sister. She had her first child a year ago.
“Lisa, I'm not pregnant"
“Think about it. Y
For the past week, you've always been too tired, always sleeping, can't keep anything down" She says.
“I'm not pregnant. I just know Lisa" I say trying to assure her.
There was no way I was pregnant, Mathew and I always used protection.
“Tasha. When was your last period" She calmly asked. My period was late. I was assuming it had something to do with my hormones or the weather or maybe the change in the environment.
Oh my God.
My eyes widened and I turned to her. I was so silly.
I was barely listening to her. I was in a trance and her voice and all other sounds seemed muffled.
“Tasha" Lisa says, shaking me.
“Are you okay?” She asks.
“Um. Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. What were you saying?” I reply, totally disoriented.
“I was asking when was the last time you had s*x with Mathew? I haven't really seen him around"
“Where is he anyways?” She asks.
“Yeah. He said he was busy with stuff" I replied, totally unsettled.
“So, when was it?” She prodded.
“Huh? The last time? Two weeks ago" I replied.
I closed my eyes as the realization that we didn't use protection hit me. My heartbeat spiked and I started panicking immediately.
I could actually be pregnant.
“You know what, there's no cause for alarm. It's just a thought. It might as well be a false alarm"
But I was already too anxious to believe her words.
“How about I go get you a kit and you can test to confirm whether or not you're actually pregnant. Yeah?”
“O-okay”
“Don't think too much about it" She got up and grabbed her purse before leaving to go get a kit.
I tried to calm down and think of my next line of action if I indeed did turn up pregnant.
I had only just met Mathew. I barely knew the man. I had a life to return to. The baby would have to go. I didn't need the extra strain in my life. I was barely earning enough to look after myself. I couldn't afford another presence that would increase my bills.
Lisa returned with two packs of test strips.
“Alright, I had to convince the pharmacy guy to give me some," she hands me the kits.
“So sorry babes, I would've loved to stay but I really need to leave now. The crew's leaving" She scrambled around, trying to gather the rest of her things before kissing me goodbye.
Overcome with my thoughts and emotions, I decide to wait until Lisa returns so I wouldn't be alone when I find out but then decide to just get it done within a few minutes later.
I tore open the first pack after reading the instructions, took out the stick and peed on it before I placed it on the counter and waited with bated breath.
Five minutes later, two very prominent lines stared back at me, tearing a scream from my throat as I dropped the stick. No this can't be real.
Perphaps it was a faulty kit. These things did have errors sometimes, right? I picked up the second pack and ensured I read the instructions twice before using it.
Five minutes later, I got the exact same result, two prominent lines stared back at me. I broke into a sob as the reality of my situation hit me.
I belatedly registered the insistent banging on the door.
“Tasha. Open the door, it's Matthew" my heartbeat skyrocketed.
******
“Tasha?” Mathew called out from behind the bathroom door.
The man practically had his men breakdown the door to allow him access to the room. I remained quiet in my dilemma of whether to answer him or not.
“Tasha” He banged on the door.
“I’ll be out in a minute" I replied and gathered the kits into the trash, before fixing my appearance in the mirror and stepped into the room.
“What's going on?” I asked, at the sight of his bodyguards and the worried expression Mathew was sporting.
“How're you feeling?” I gave him a bewildered look.
“I saw Lisa. She told me you weren't feeling too well" he added after noting my expression.
“Oh, okay. Yeah. I wasn't feeling too good but I'm fine now. Is that why you broke down my door? Because you wanted to check on me?” I crossed my arms.
He ignored me and gestured one of his men to hand him a bag and handed it to me. I looked through the contents and found different pregnancy test kits.
“What the hell Mathew. What's all this for?” How did he draw up that conclusion so fast?
“Just take the test. I need to know if you're pregnant or not" He says.
“No, I don't want to. What brought this on?” I say, a bit panicked. I didn't want him to know about it. I was getting rid of it anyway.
“Listen to me” he grabbed my shoulders and looked at me with desperation filled eyes.
“Last time…. We didn't use protection last time and I really, really need to know if you're with child or not" He said desperately.
“Please Tasha, please just take the test"
“O-okay” I could just break the news to him right now but I myself was still in denial and decided to try one more time.
Why did he look so worried though?
I took the test using a pack out of the many he brought along and minutes later, it read positive. Again.
Mathew reached me immediately I exited the bathroom and took it out of my hand to see the result. He stared at it for some time before dropping his hand defeatedly.
“What's wrong?” I asked worriedly.
“Did you use the others? Test again with the others" He said frantically and tried to push me back to the bathroom.
“It's positive Mathew. I checked twice already before you go here".
“Just test with the ones I brought. I have to be sure" He continued to push me towards the door.
“Mathew wait, even if I wanted to, I don't have anymore liquid in me for that"
He halted his actions and turned to one of the men, clicking his fingers. The man handed him a water bottle which he gave to me.
“Here. Drink up” I give him an ‘are you alright ‘ look.
“Please Tasha" I didn't understand why he was so desperate. I didn't see what all the fuss was about.
“Take some more" He urged as I took a swig from the bottle, earning a glare from me.
“Are you guys going to wait here until I pee again?” I glared at them and was greeted with silence.
“Can somebody at least tell me what's going on?” I was again greeted with silence.
“Mathew” he glanced at me.
“Let's get confirmation first" I huffed.
I take the test after sometime with all the kits he brought, all from different brands and get the result before heading into the room to show Mathew. He meets me halfway and assessed all of them before he pulled his hair in frustration and started pacing around the room. He let out a string of curses and a sighed.
Geez, was having a baby with me really that bad to think about? It was not that serious.
“You know. I can see you're not too ecstatic about it. Not to worry, I don't plan on keeping it" He stopped his pacing and faced me.
“You can't do that," He shook his head.
I'm sorry what?
“What do you mean by that?” I was annoyed and confused. He didn't get to tell me what I could and couldn't do.
Mathew walked over and took his phone from one of his men before furiously typing away while replying to me.
“You cannot terminate the pregnancy. You're not allowed to". He said, as if it made perfect sense.
“What does that even mean?!” I exclaimed angrily. He walked over to me and gently grabbed my face.
“Listen to me, I know it's all a bit confusing now but I just need you to trust me"
“I don't understand. What's happening?” I was worried.
“We need to leave immediately. I would explain everything once we land" He kissed my head and shared a nod wirh one of his men and he turned to leave the room.
“Help her pack" the other guy swings into action immediately.
“Wait, what? Where are we going?”
“Home. To see my parents" He says while checking his phone.
“Wait, what?” How did his parents get involved in this? There was definitely no way I was just leaving with him.
His bodyguard was already in my closet, packing away my things into my suitcase.
“What about Lisa? I'm not leaving without her" And how were we even leaving? We were on a Cruise.
“Her transportation would been sorted" He said, still typing away.
No, this wasn't right. I barely knew this man. I was going nowhere with him, pregnant or not.
“I'm not going anywhere with you until I understand just what is going on and what I'm involved in" I said while looking at him.
“Where are we going? At least let me know" I was exasperated at that point.
“London” he voiced and pocketed his phone while holding my gaze.
I've never been more confused in my entire life.
