" Impossible! She is a hunter" his father huffs out.
"It's true. I feel it, I feel her and I can smell her. Not her goodness but her real scent." He smiles and takes a deep breath, moving closer to me. His father's hand is almost completely removed from my face now and all four of them are staring at me with a strange expression. All while 'Grey' is smiling at me and moving closer.
"Grey don't be stupid, she is a hunter, making it impossible for her to be your sun" his father rolls his eyes and takes a small step away.
"She is, I could smell her from three blocks away. The warmth radiating off her; she's mouthwatering." he sighs and runs his fingers down my cheek. I'm standing paralysed against the wall; I'm going to die if I don't do something. The word 'mouthwatering' snaps me out of my daze and I grab the hand caressing my face, I turn him and slam him face first into the wall. Before I can do anything else a heavy hand falls on my shoulder and I'm pulled away from him. Pulling myself out and away, I spin and land a punch to the stomach of the father. He tumbles back into his daughters; I'm preparing myself for the fight of my life, feeling faint but I must push on.
"ENOUGH!" The quiet woman screams, we all falter, the daughters and father pull up and look at the woman.
"I have seen enough. If Grey believes she is his sun then we are to believe him. Hunter or not, you will not attack her" the woman commands, her authority palpable.
She turns to me and continues, "I'm Elena" she points to the man who tried to kill me, "this is my sun, Vladislaus. My daughters Ember and River" she points to the two girls. "And of course my son Grey" she smiles, her fangs gleaming in the moonlight.
"Fantastic, you have names. Means nothing when you meet the end of my stake" I sneer. Why are they telling me their names, and what the hell has the sun got to do with anything. Grey who I slammed into the wall moves up behind me and rubs his nose against my neck, taking a breath. The motion fills me with joy, belonging and a tinge of darkness. I can't make myself move as he brings his hand to my face and kisses my jawline, breathing deeply while he does.
"Wha-a, what are you doing?" I stutter out.
"Breathing you in, you smell divine, you smell like mine." I feel his fangs brush my neck as he keeps taking deep breaths. A shiver runs down my spine and I rip myself out of his embrace.
I take several deep breaths and calm my racing heart. His blue eyes glow as he stares at me, running his hand across his chin.
"Don't tough me!" I snap, reaching for my stake and removing it from my waistband. Vladislaus clicks his tongue and rips it from my hands, leaving me defenceless. My blood is racing to my head and I feel more and more faint.
"You're weak and need to feed" Elena surmises.
"I need you to leave, I'm too weak to hurt you but I won't be once I feed" I snarl, turning on her.
"Is it true you eat rats?" Ember laughs, taunting me with her eyes. Hunters don't eat humans, that's how we differentiate ourselves from our counterparts, they feed and kill as they please with no conscience, but I feel everything I do. Eating rats though, that's not how I get by, but the truth won't do me any good here.
"I don't hurt innocent humans like you" I glare, feeling myself sway.
"Maybe if you did, you wouldn't be about to faint" she retorts.
"I'm a hunter, I don't hurt the innocent. You're evil and kill whenever you please" the light starts to darken in my eyes and before I know it, I'm passing out, in the middle of a dark alley, surrounded by vampires. Great.
