Then
Grey picked out an elegant black silk dress that hugged all of my curves. I felt slightly uncomfortable in it after spending my days living in clothes fit for fighting. With the dress is a pair of beautiful red pumps, all in my size. There’s even red lace lingerie to go with it, the guy really thought this through. I look and feel more beautiful than I ever have before, then I remind myself of where I am. I steel myself for the night ahead and then knock on the bedroom door, signaling that I’m ready.
Grey opens the door and stops in his tracks when he sees me, he looks me up and down with a hungry look in his eyes, butterflies form in my belly and I have no idea why. ‘He kidnapped you Em, get it together’, I think to myself.
“You look beautiful my Sun” he smiles and holds out his hand. I hesitate to take it and he sighs with a look of disappointment.
“I see I have to do more to earn your trust” he says as he drops his hand. I wring my hands together before answering him.
“I don’t know if that will ever happen Grey, we’re sworn enemies and you kidnapped me off the street” I try to explain, feeling bad at the thought of hurting his feelings.
“It will my queen, you already feel it in you. It’s only a matter of time” he states. I decide to ignore him, it’s better that way. I indicate for him to go first and follow him out of the room, he continues down a long hallway and then leads me down an intricate stone staircase and into a large dining room where his family are already seated. He leads me to the other side of the table and pull my seat out before taking his seat next to me, leaving me the farthest from his family.
“Emery, so lovely to see you again and under better circumstances” Elena smiles across the table at me, but I just frown. How is this better circumstances?
“I wouldn’t call it better circumstances; I was kidnapped from an alley.” I shift uncomfortably in my seat when I feel Grey put his hand on mine on my thigh and squeeze, either in support or warning.
“You have some bite to you. I like her Grey” a voice says from behind us. I turn to look and see a tall guy with shaggy blonde hair, a crazy amount of muscles and sleeve tattoos on both arms. He walks around the table, greeting everyone, the women with a kiss on the cheek and the men with a handshake. He goes to greet me but Grey, shoves him back and snarls at him.
“Don’t touch her” he snaps. The guy laughs and puts his hands up in surrender before winking at me and going to sit next to Elena.
“Don’t mind him Mace, they haven’t bonded yet, I imagine he’ll be a little touchy around her until they do” Elena smiles at me. I roll my eyes and take in my surroundings. For whatever reason my body is completely at ease, I don’t like it. If I take a big breath, I can still smell the sour stench of darkness but it’s only faint, covered by the sweet smell of Grey sitting next to me. He smells of freshly turned soil and rain, he smells divine. For some strange reason, smelling him has set my blood on fire. My body has started to heat and I cannot focus on the conversation around me, the only thing that I can register is the heavy weight of his hand of my leg, his warmth and his smell. Oh my god, that smell. I shift closer to him until my side is touching his, as soon as I make contact with him he stiffens. He looks over at me and takes a big breath, groaning and tightening his hand on my leg, his irises have been swallowed by his pupils. I barely register anything, except that the room is now silent. I’m leaning closer to Grey, wanting to be touching every part of him, suddenly he pushing his chair back and moves as far away from me as he can.
“Mum, I need you to get her out of here” he exclaims through clenched teeth.
Elena looks at him quizzically before responding, “whatever for?” she asks.
“Smell her”, if he clenched his teeth any harder, he’d break them. Elena does as he says and then her eyes go wide before a bright smile appears on her face.
“This is wonderful” she gasps.
Grey shakes his head at his mum before answering her, “no it isn’t!” she growls.
“Of course it is, isn’t this what you want?” she asks him.
“Of course it is, but not like this, not when she doesn’t trust me. She’ll hate me forever if I act on it now. You need to take her back to her room and lock the door, take the key with you and please whatever you do, do not let me in there” he pleads with him mum. The others all looking at him quizzically, each taking a sniff of the air and then smiling. Except Mace, he is breathing heavy and clenching the table in his hands.
Grey lock eyes with him before commanding him, “Mace, get out of here now!” but he doesn’t move, he’s almost growing and all I can think about is how sexy Grey is when he’s commanding people, I stand up to get closer to him and he holds his hands up to stop me, I swat them out of the way and wrap my arms around his waist, nuzzling my head into his neck.
“Dad, get Mace out of here!” Vladislaus moves and grabs Mace, dragging him from the dining room. I nuzzle closer to Grey, taking in his scent, my temperature getting hotter and hotter.
“Way to ruin dinner, I like looking a Mace” Ember complains, but all I notice is Grey and his smell and heat and how much I want him. It hurts how much I want him and need him. I feel hands grab me and try to pull me away from him, but I shake them off and cling to him, but they’re persistent.
“No!” I shout and bury my head in his chest, he’s growling now, I can hear and feel the vibrations and it’s setting me alight. Before I can do anything else, three sets of hands grab me and pull me away from him, I cry and scream, the further I’m pulled away from him the more painful it becomes. I look at Grey and it’s easy to see his restraint is slipping, Vladislaus comes back in just as he goes to move towards me, he grabs him and holds him back.
“No! No, Grey I need you, please, it hurts!” I yell as the three women drag me away and back up to my room. They push me inside and I hear the click of the lock as they leave me in this room alone, I’m in so much pain.
I scream and yell for Grey for what feels like hours, the pain is getting worse, not better and I don’t know what to do to fix it. I’ve gotten so hot that I’ve ripped all of my clothes off and I’m sitting on the floor crying and writhing in pain, when I hear a crash outside the room. Arguing erupts and smashing ensues.
“Grey no!” a voice I recognize as Elena yells. “You said it yourself, you can’t do this” she pleads.
“Dad, let me go!” he roars which is followed by a crash and then the door is kicked open, Grey steps forward and I feel a sense of relief. He slams the doors shut and turns to me, he grabs me by the arms and lifts me up; my legs wrap around him automatically.
“I’m sorry baby, but I can’t stop” he whispers to me.
“Good, I don’t want you to” I tell him.
I am so screwed.
