Thane's eyes darted away from Lena's and he quickly finished buttoning his shirt.
“I don't know what you're talking about, Lena,” he said quickly, his voice firm but unconvincing.
Lena chuckled, a low throaty sound.
“Don't play dumb with me Thane,” she said, her eyes glinting with curiosity.
“I know about the little incident that happened last night and I must say I'm a little disappointed in you.”
Thane walked right in front of Lena, his lips curved to a smile, an arrogant one.
“I don't know what you're talking about Lena, but I'd more interested in your whereabouts last night”
“Let's talk about it during lunch, shall we?”
Lena's face dropped. What was Thane talking about?. And how was he aware of her absence the previous night.
She swallowed hard.
“I don't know what you're talking about either,” she replied bluntly.
“Great!” He exclaimed.
“We finally agree on one thing”
“Don't be late for breakfast” he said, exiting the room.
Everyone silently ate at the breakfast table. Anne, Thane's grandmother, added some veggies as she noticed he was almost done with the one he had.
“Thanks Granny,” he said, smiling sweetly at her. Evelyn, his mother cleared her throat to speak up.
“I hope you both are preparing for the next full moon?” she asked.
“Mum, this is not a good time or place to discuss this” Thane stated,a bit upset.
“ Well I was just informing you about it, you're the Alpha of this pack, you need a mate to be complete”
“Let the boy have his breakfast in peace, Evelyn and stop whining” Anne chipped in.
“Mother!” Evelyn hissed
“What?. You care about Lena so much that you forget about your own son?”
“Oh please, don't start with me Mum, you know I care so much about Thane”
“And you never gave him a choice to go for the girl he wants?, instead you brought this…whatever into our house” Anne said rudely.
“Don't talk to me like that, Anne.” Lena retorted.
“You see, she's very arrogant. I suggest Thane finds someone better before the next full moon” Anne stated.
“Which is not less than a month?”
“You must be kidding mum” Evelyn said, rolling her eyes .
Thane rose up from the Table. “I'll be on the training grounds” he said, exiting as they continued to banter.
Thane's home has always been a damaged place for him since birth, he craved real love and care but everyone around him seemed to not notice his presence except Anne, his grandmother. His mum would always cut him away from people, as he was the future alpha of the pack, Evelyn would always seize the opportunity to always remind him of how he was not to mingle with the commoners.
Sometimes he would sneak out and eventually get caught, Evelyn would deny him food as punishment while his father would do nothing about it. His father, Arthur made himself visible during important meetings, there were rumors that he he never loved Evelyn but had someone he had affections for and she belonged to Lunar Creek, it was impossible to mate with a rival pack as it would warrant him to loose his position. To him, Thane was just his successor who came from a woman he never loved. He died, after suffering from an illness and it was until his death that Thane was noticed.
Due to the lack of affection, he was always stern and strict to everyone around him. Feared, respected and strongest amongst everyone in the pack.
“Send for Maria and Peter” he ordered one of the guards as he stepped on the training ground. He sure knew someone spilled to Luna about the previous night.
His mind drifted off to the incident that occurred with the brown wolf.
*********
Thane could hear the growls of Maria and Peter far behind in the forest, he had suggested earlier they went for a hunt, and they had made a bet that whosoever caught a bigger meat would have it all to themselves. His paws thudded as he ran panting searching for the other two.
Finally, he caught up to them but to his surprise there was an intruder, a trespasser. He watched as Maria and Peter pinned her to the ground, their claws digging into its flesh as it growled loudly in pain, struggling to fight back but was too weak.
She struggled and kicked but they were too strong for her, just as the grey wolf, Peter raised his claws to deliver another blow, when suddenly, Thane blurred in snarling at the other two as they backed away, he charged at them with, his eyes blazing with fury. They growled slowly as they watched Thane circle around Aria, his eyes fixed on hers.
He gently nudged her with his snout checking if she was okay. Aria was startled by the wolf's kindness but suddenly his eyes glazed over hers, and he raised his paws, striking Aria on the side of her head. Aria slumped and went unconscious.
Thane stood over her, his chest heaving with exertion. With a swift motion, he reached down grabbing Aria's wrist in his jaws and began to drag her across the forest floor, her limp body bouncing over roots and rocks.
What was he doing? Rang his mind.
He knew the laws were to strike off whoever trespassed their territory but here he was aiding the trespasser. The two other wolves watched distantly with curious stares, they dare not intervene.
Thane panted heavily, a bright light shone across him, his gaze rose to the sky. His eyes widened in shock.
There were two moons above him.
And as he gazed up at the twin moons in wonder, Thane's eyes snapped back to the trespasser who was already shifting back into it's human form. Her fur receded to a young stunning woman. She was breathtakingly beautiful and Thane's gaze lingered over her transfixed by the unexpected revelation.
