Chapter 7: Unexpected Reunion

602 Words
Hearing this, a bad feeling stirred in me. Looking up, I saw the homeroom teacher waving enthusiastically at a long line of students in the distance. The oil on the skewers dripped onto his hand. I spotted Lou Yue in the crowd. She was chatting quietly with her classmates, a shy smile on her face, looking unusually relaxed. When someone at the stall impatiently called me, I hurriedly looked down, hands moving expertly. Lowering my head even further, wishing I could disappear into the grill. “Hey, everyone, this way, this way!” The homeroom teacher’s loud voice instantly gathered the crowd. I grit my teeth, glanced sideways, and saw the homeroom teacher raise an eyebrow proudly at me. “Hmm? Ren Yiqiang, it’s you. Long time no see.” “Yeah, it feels weird not having you in class.” “Heh.” I put on a polite smile, thinking honestly, without me dragging the class down, their average grades probably would be higher. The homeroom teacher patted my shoulder and waved grandly. “Today’s on me! Everyone can have as many grilled sausages as you want. Just tell Ren Yiqiang.” “Wow, thanks, homeroom teacher!” “And thank you, Ren Yiqiang!” Suddenly, thanks poured in from the crowd, making me look like I’d donated a fortune. I sneaked a look at Lou Yue, who was curiously observing the scene. I quickly pulled my gaze back and smiled at all the youthful faces. “No way, classmates! How can I charge you? Free! Take as many as you want.” “Wow, so cool!” “Yeah, you’re so nice!” The homeroom teacher tried to say something, but I quickly stuffed a grilled sausage into his mouth. One by one, the students eagerly but shyly insisted on paying me despite my protests. Those without money hesitated, too embarrassed to eat for free, so I just bagged the money and handed it out to them. For those too shy, I shoved the sausage into their mouths directly. Simple and efficient. Honestly, though I wasn’t good at school, I really liked students. Simple minds, no bad intentions. Even with the homeroom teacher’s help, I was still swamped. I carefully picked up a golden crispy sausage from the far right of the grill, brushed on some ketchup, and sprinkled a little chili powder on top. “Lou Yue, this one’s for you.” Saying her name made my heart feel warm. Lou Yue looked pleasantly surprised, accepting the sausage with a smile in her eyes. She couldn’t eat spicy food but craved chili anyway. In the past life, whenever I went out with her to eat, I’d always order one spicy and one non-spicy dish. “Wow, Lou Yue, this sausage is perfectly grilled.” “Really?” Lou Yue bit into it and squinted her eyes from the chili powder, instinctively sticking out her tongue. I feigned surprise. “Oh yeah, Lou Yue, you’re lucky.” “Thanks.” Her eyes behind her glasses seemed to bloom like a brilliant flower, sparkling with clear light. In the past life, I liked teasing her — when she got tired studying, I’d quietly take off her glasses and kiss her brow. Watching her dreamy eyes as I held her close. Lou Yue was happy but quickly pulled back, blushing fiercely when she met my gaze. I looked down and realized I was wearing a white tank top with a long sleeve tied around my waist. My chest muscles showed faintly, and the grease stains made the shirt stick to my skin.
