"Are you family?" one of the paramedics asked as they secured Lancelot on the stretcher. "We'll need a family member to ride with us in case we need signatures at the hospital."
"But I'm not—" Florence tried to pull her hand away, flustered. "I'm not his family! Let go of me—Lancelot, let go!"
Despite her protests, Lancelot's grip on her hand remained firm as the paramedics loaded him into the ambulance.
Helpless, Florence found herself pushed into the vehicle alongside him as the siren wailed, whisking them off to the hospital.
