Reality Sets In

Kat I knew I couldn’t sit there forever. To many things needed to be done, otherwise I’d be sleeping in the Jeep. I guess that is still better than the orphanage though, or worrying about a very angry Alpha sneaking up on me and murdering me. I dig my toes and fingers into the cold sand and wiggle them around one last time before I get up and make my way back to the Jeep. Patting off all the sand on me before sliding back into the suv, I go through a mental check list of what I need to do. I need to go get a cell phone, find a place to stay, find a job, get clothes. All my stuff was left at Cory’s house because of the sudden order for me to leave. I make my way to the nearest superstore via GPS and grab a phone and some clothes. I also grabbed a small organizer folder to put all my receipts in. I was serious when I said I would pay him back for everything. I can’t let him pay for everything after saving Luke. So I label the organizer and put the receipts in their allocated pockets, keeping a tally on the main page in the front. I decided to take a drive and explore the town while looking for a job. I went to the busiest part of the town which was a Main Street across the river from a giant battleship. It was full of bars, coffee shops and other various little stores selling their goods. I picked one of the smaller coffee shops to stop in and get a beverage from. The aroma was of slightly burnt beans, and everything from floor to ceiling was covered in reclaimed wood. Little badges gave information as to where the wood came from and some interesting facts about what it use to be. After ordering a latte, I found a small table in the back corner and settled in, taking out my recent phone purchase, setting it on the table. Technology wasn’t a strong point for me, so I had to read through all the instructions of how to activate it. My name was called at the bar and I looked up to see my latte sitting on the counter. Maybe some coffee would help get me away from the dumb brain and I could knock this phone thing out quick. I walked up to the counter, the barista behind it throwing me a big grin and sent me a wink when I made eye contact with him. It made me very uncomfortable and I quickly broke contact and slunk away back to my table. Unfortunately the latte did not help my dumb brain and after forty five minutes of struggling I had the phone activated and ready to go. Such a small accomplishment seemed like a monumental task. At least now I’m ready to go apply for a job and they have a way to contact me. After cleaning up my mess and getting ready to leave I decide my next stop should be the post office. I get up to throw away my trash and leave when I catch a whiff of something nice. I instantly feel warm and calm inside. It smells like the forest, like pine trees and that earthy scent right before it rains. I can’t help but smile to myself as I shake it off and leave. The scent disappears as soon as I walk away from the coffee shop, leaving a small ping of sadness in my chest. Its not even been forty eight hours and I’m already tired of these extra emotions that come with being a werewolf. I hop in the suv and plug the post office into the gps. It only takes a few minutes to get there. One of the perks of being in a city where everything is close together. I pull a pen and notebook out of my purchases made earlier so I can write a letter to Luke and Cory. I decided to keep it simple since I had only been gone for a few hours. As long as they had my number, they could contact me. I wrote my number on the piece of paper and a small note. I didn’t want you to be without your ID, and now you have a way to contact me. I’m still looking for a place to live and a job, but now you have my number, so feel free to contact me through that number. Keep Luke safe. I love you both. Kat I rubbed it against my cheek to get some of my scent on it before placing it in an envelope. I don’t know why, but I had the need to do that in hopes that he may catch a whiff of it. I hopped out the suv to quickly drop the envelope in the drop box. There was that scent again. It was faint, but I could tell that it was coming from the busy part of the downtown area. I was downwind, and something inside me told me to follow it. I decided against that really quickly, nothing good could come from following that scent. I got back in the Jeep and drove to the other side of town looking for places to live or work. Cory I was still laying in bed staring at the ceiling when my alarm went off. I laid in the room filled with Kat’s things and just dwelled on the fact that i was this close. This close to having all my dreams come true. Just for her to be taken away from me because she is an omega. I listened to Luke snore the entire night. Clearly it had been a long day for him as well, since he passed out almost as soon as he laid down. I tried closing my eyes and going to sleep, it just didn’t work out. Every time i shut my eyes i saw the alphas hands around her neck. I can’t lay around all day though, one of the downfalls to being a Beta is that people actually depend on me for things. I groaned as I stretched out and took in her scent for a little longer. Time to get the kid up and roll. “Hey kid! Time to get up!” I could hear him groan as well. “The sun isn’t even up.” He was talking to his self. “The sun is never up before we are. Get used to it. You wanted to train, this is part of it.” “Ugggghhhhh.” He started shuffling about getting dressed. I took that as a sign i should start getting dressed as well. I stretched as I walked down the stairs back to my room. Everything was trashed still. I rifled through some of my stuff that was thrown about i found some clean clothes to change into scattered throughout. I changed quickly and grabbed some extra clothes to change into later after i showered at the pack house, since my entire bathroom was destroyed and I don’t think I could stop myself from laying back down in Kat’s clothes if I went upstairs again. “Luke, lets go.” I walked through the living room and went to grab my keys. I let out a sigh as I realized Kat has my Jeep. I couldn’t help but smile at the same time as realization set in that I didn’t have a vehicle anymore. I grabbed my phone off the table and flipped open the app that lets me track my vehicle. She was by the coast, it was fitting for her. I could see her standing on the beach with her toes in the sand, wind whipping through her red hair. My wolf was urging me to leave and go to her, beg her to forgive us. “Kid lets go! We gotta hoof it! Need to hustle if we’re gonna be on time.” I could hear his grumbles as he stomped his way down the stairs. His hair was a mess, his clothes covered in rips and holes. His shoes falling apart. We’ve got to go shopping today as well for a car and clothes.
