A New Beginning

985 Words
Kat After driving around for a while I came across a small for rent sign in front of a very small apartment complex. They where old, and not very well taken care of, some water damage was visible from the outside, multiple water mark lines on the building suggested that it had been flooded many times. I called the number listed on the sign and made an appointment to view. I told the property manager that I didn’t even need to view it, we could just fill out whatever they need and I can pay with the card Cory told me to use. She told me to wait a few minutes and she’ll be right over. She seemed excited by the easy sale. Which I guess made since, as it doesn’t seem like this is something that would happen all the time. It wasn’t much to look at from the outside, and I’m sure the inside matched as well, but it would be better than being homeless and it was in the price range I could afford on my own. I already felt bad enough using Cory’s card to even get the apartment. From never having any help, to having someone give me a card to have access to start an entirely new life was not something I could easily become accustomed to. That’s why I will pay him back one day. It won’t always be like this, and if I’m being honest with myself, this is a much better opportunity than anything i would have been able to come across at the pack. Being an orphan and an Omega really had it’s setbacks. Being invisible and passed over continuously was the biggest one of them. Working off debt that shouldn’t even exist was another one. Why should an underage child that has no control over their situation have to pay to live. Have to work as a slave just to have tattered clothes to wear, and live off of the scraps of whatever is left over at the end of the meals because they didn’t deem us worthy of the calories since we don’t fight or train. Omegas are supposed to silently work and thats all they are good for. Now I had a choice. I have options. I can do whatever I want. I turned the raidio on low for some background noise while I waited on her. As I waited my stomach felt like it was tied in knots from being so nervous. This was literally the first time I’ve had anything to myself. This is the first time I’ve been free. So many unknowns and what ifs passed through my thoughts. All the things that could go wrong. Then there was also that lingering curiosity of that scent. It kept surfacing in the back of my mind as something I wanted to go find. The property manager pulled up with haste and hopped out of her car, a pile of papers in her hands. I barely got out of the SUV before she started spreading them out on the front of the Jeep. They had little arrow post its on where I was supposed to sign. She explained that I was responsible for anything broken or damaged. She also explained that they are still doing some post flood repairs and will need access to the property from time to time, however they will give me twenty four hours notice before showing up. After I signed all the paper work she handed me my key. Told me good luck on job hunting as it was the slow season right now. Then she hurried back to her car and sped off. I put the key on my key ring, and made my way to my new apartment. A3 was my new residence. I took a deep breath as i slid the key into the lock. This is a big moment for me after all. From being trapped and thinking i was never going to be able to leave, to complete freedom. I opened the door and took my first step in, letting out that deep breath of air. White walls, white tile floors, white counters, white cabinets, white utilities. So much white. At least its something that can be fixed with adding color. I made a list of things I would need from this point on. A bed, clothes, toiletries, pots, pans, and some plates to eat off of. All things that can be gathered at one of the big box stores. After jotting everything down in a small notebook, I left and put in the location to the nearest big box store in the GPS. Turns out it was only a few miles away. So far i really enjoyed how close everything was in this town. All the parking was taken up front and I had to park far away from the building, hopefully I could fit everything into one buggy so I didn’t have to make multiple trips. I got out and started making my way into the store. There was that smell again. The pine, the forest before the storm. It only got stronger as I made my way into the store. It kept me very distracted and I had to continuously stop myself from following that delectable scent the entire time I was in the store. I gathered most of the things on my list, minus a few odd things. After paying for everything I lugged the shopping cart that was overloaded with things back to the Jeep. The car was piled so high I had to stand on my tippy toes or look around the side every now and then to make sure I wasn’t going to hit someone or their car. The scent kept getting stronger the closer I got to where the Jeep was parked and I could hear two people arguing somewhere close to it.
