Cory
We made quick time driving to the next town Luke kept an eye out looking through the wood line while I drove along. Only asking me to slow down when he thought he saw something.
“Maybe we went the wrong way?” He asked quietly.
“Maybe, but I’ve got a good feeling about this way. We will turn around if we don’t find her in the next town. I doubt she could’ve got further than that on foot.” I didn’t tell him, but something was pulling me this direction. My wolf showed seemed confident we had chosen wisely. Luke didn’t seem as confident, but the choices we could have made are limited and this really seemed the best route.
We sat quietly beside each other til we reached the town, unfortunately not spotting anyone walking down the main road. I decided to drive around about since a lot of people are out walking around. Maybe I’ll get lucky and spot her. Passing a coffee house I couldn’t help but smile as a caught a whiff of peppermint mingled with mocha. My eyes went wide. That wasn’t the coffee shop. That was her. I slammed the breaks, bringing the suv to a screeching halt. Luke letting out a huff of air from slamming into the seatbelt.
“She’s here.” I pulled into the nearest empty parking spot and quickly got out. Luke right on my heals, I stand there trying to figure out which direction the scent came from. A small breeze hit my face, there it was. My eyes went wide and I started off in the direction the breeze came from.
“Wow you can smell her that good! I can’t wait to get my wolf.” He said in amazement, almost running trying to keep pace with me. The sooner I find her the better. The scent starts to lead us away from downtown. It was another road out of town. The scent was faint but it was clearly heading in this direction.
“Let’s get back to the Jeep, shes heading down this road. I bet we will find her if she’s still walking.” We both ran back. I hit the auto start on my keys as soon as I could see it, not wanting to waste any time.
We jumped in as fast as possible and headed in the direction we knew she was going. My nerves putting me on edge. She doesn’t know I’m her second chance mate yet. I don’t know how she’ll react to having one so soon, or even having one that’ll put her close to her first one that rejected her almost every day. Passing by all the shops and a little park we made our way out of town. It’s getting close to sunset and the sky turns orange, all the clouds lighting up pink and purple. Driving down this country road at least I know she hasn’t turned down a different road. There are none to turn down.
I see a person walking on the side of the road just as the sun starts to set behind the tree lines. Luke spots the person as well sitting straight up, becoming suddenly very alert. I slow down way before she can hear us coming.
“Do you think its her?” Luke says hopefully.
“It’s her.” My stomach fills with butterfly’s. “I’m going to pull over behind her. I want you to get out and talk to her first. She doesn’t know I’m her mate yet, and I don’t want to scare her away by thinking I’m trying to force her to go back.” He gives me an odd look, but nods his head, accepting my instruction. Here it goes, I slowly pull up behind her and honk the horn.
Kat
I turned around very happy to hear a vehicle behind me. I’ve been walking hours and my feet are blistered from the thin socks. A small figure emerges from the right side of the vehicle and starts running towards me.
“Kat! We found you! I was so worried!” Luke runs to me as fast as possible throwing his lanky arms around my waste.
“Wh, what are you doing here Luke? I can’t go back. I’m sorry, but I can’t go back.” I wrap my arms around him and start to tear up.
“You have to come back, you can’t leave me! You can’t leave your mate either! He’s here Kat, he came and got me to come help find you! You’ve been wanting him forever, you have to meet him!” I instantly started to panic. He rejected me, he doesn’t get to change his mind now.
“Luke, the Alpha rejected me. He doesn’t want to be my mate and he doesn’t really want me to come back.” I step away from him and he looks at me like I had just grown another head.
“Alpha’s not your mate.” He says matter of factly.”What do you mean the Alpha rejected you?” His face starts to get red and I can see him very quickly becoming mad. I look down so I don’t have to make eye contact with him.
“He rejected me this morning because I’m an omega, and not worthy of the title of Luna, because I’ll never be strong enough to support an Alpha. He made it clear I wasn’t worthy. That’s why I left. I don’t want to watch him mate with someone else knowing I’m going to be alone because my true mate rejected me. Knowing that I’ll never have the other half of my soul.” I spoke so quietly that I’d be surprised if he heard everything I said. By the bewildered reaction on his face he did hear all of it.
“Kat, the Alpha didn’t bring me here to get you.” My head snapped up and I made eye contact with him. He wasn’t lying.
“Then what do you mean my mate brought you here to look for me?” He smiled. He actually smiled. After everything I’d been through today how could he smile at me like that.
“Beta Cory brought me here.” He looks back at the suv and gives him a thumbs up.
“That’s not my mate Luke, he lied to you.” I eyed the suv suspiciously, debating on how I’d get Luke out of here before the Beta comes and gets us and forces me to go back with them. Luke laughs.
“Oh yea, he said you didn’t know. I guess I was so caught up in finding you I didn’t think about that.” He lets out another giggle.
“You only get one mate Luke. Omegas don’t get second chance mates.” I looked towards the suv as a breeze hit my face. Coconut and happiness. That’s all I could smell. My heart starts to race, it really can’t be. He steps out of the suv and the scent gets stronger, it really is true. I really do have a second chance mate.
