Second Chance So Soon

Cory I could see that she was already thinking about bolting off into the woods. I listened in the whole time Luke talked to her. She was didn’t believe him, which I can’t say that I blame her. I didn’t believe it at first either. I took a deep breath and stepped out of the vehicle. I could see her eyes go wide, she couldn’t take her eyes off me as I walked over. I stand about three feet in front of her as to not scare her off. “HI.” It was the most awkward hi I’d ever said in my entire life. She just stared at me. “I’m Cory.” I gave her a few seconds to respond and all I got was silence. “I’m your second chance mate.” Hoping that would ease her nerves a little, she just stared at me like she was about to stroke out. “Kat, say something.” Luke grabbed her arm and shook her a little. “Omegas don’t get second chance mates.” She said questioningly. “Well it seems you do.” I smiled and said it playfully to try and get her to loosen up, but it seemed to have the opposite reaction and she tensed up. “But how?” She looked to me for answers. “I don’t know, but Its happened. It was never said that ONLY alphas and betas could find a second chance mate. I think its just they had a higher chance with loosing the first one so its just more witnessed.” Its the best answer I had. “I don’t you to be.” My feelings hurt, I could feel my wolf start to get nervous and panic. “I know its soon, and its all happening fast. I didn’t expect this either. I didn’t even know until after you had already left. I went to talk to you and found Luke in your room.” I kept eye contact with her the entire time so she could see I’m not trying to hide anything. “At first I asked him where your room mate was, because it didn’t register that I could even possibly be your second chance mate.” I see her shiver. “Are you cold?” I reach out subconsciously to grab her hand and she backs away suddenly like I was going to hit her. “Don’t touch me!” She clutched the hand I almost touched. “I’m sorry. I’m not going to hurt you.” I took a step back and raised my hands. “I’m sorry.” “Why are you here?” She’s glaring at me now. “I came to convince you to come home with me. With us.” She glanced at Luke. “He wants us to come live with him Kat! He even said he will train me to fight, so I can stop people from bullying omegas.” He looks at her pleadingly. “He is serious, he wants us to be his family.” “You don’t have to accept me right now, but maybe come back to the pack and think on it for a few days. If you decide that you don’t want me then I will accept. You will be free to leave as you see fit after that.” Giving her the option to reject me wasn’t something I was comfortable with, but shes already been through a lot and I wasn’t about to add to that by making her feel like a hostage. “I’ve invited Luke to come and stay with me, and I am going to start training him for his new position right away. If he is your family, he is my family now as well.” She looked at me with tears in her eyes. “But what about the Alpha? He doesn’t want me there.” I could tell her emotions started terrorizing her. One second she would look sad, then she would look mad, and they just kept switching back and forth, easily read by her facial reactions. “I’ve already told him that I am your second chance mate and that I was coming to find you.” She stayed silent. “He told me to go when I said I was leaving after you. He is well aware of this current situation.” “And you want me as a mate?” She poked her cheek with her finger. “I want you to come and get to know me and if you want I’d like to see where this goes. The moon goddess does everything for a reason.” She seemed to think about what I said for a minute. “Ok. I’ll come back and give you a chance. If anything happens you have to promise me Luke will be safe. He comes first, remember that.” I held my hand out to her. “I promise to keep the kid safe. I swear on my life I will put him first, like he was our own child. I wasn’t kidding when I said your family is my family now.” She reluctantly took my hand. Tingles erupting through my hand where we touched. I waited my entire life for this feeling. It was better than I’d ever imagined. I couldn’t help but smile and let out a sigh of relief. “I said I would come back, don’t look so happy. I still haven’t made my mind up about you.” I let out a small laugh. “Don’t you feel it?” She looked at me. “Feel what?” She didn’t feel the bond. “Hm, I guess you don’t feel it yet, because you haven’t got your wolf yet. It’s amazing. Where we touch feels like a million little sparks. It tingles, but it a good way.” “Oh.” Now that I was this close I could tell she was tired. “Let’s go home.” I tugged on her hand to coax her to walk back to the suv with me.
