The darkness was overwhelming and although the moon shone brightly and lit up the sky in a soft whitish glow, it was not light enough. I kept stumbling over rocks or branches as I hurried behind Lucinda and when we finally reached a clearing, I felt as though I could breathe easier, even though my heart was pounding so loudly that it was all I could hear. I looked up and the moon seemed to be right above us and the beauty of it took my breath away. “Soon,” I heard Lucinda whisper and I wanted to look at her, to be ready for her, but I had decided that I would do my best and not think about what I was doing or what was going to happen.
