Chapter 26

The following morning after the party would have gone as usual but the sudden reminder to resume office immediately had to change a lot, Haldir even before he went into slumber had refused the duke position, he was a lord and went by that till after the war he led and returned victoriously.

Haldir couldn't sleep after the party, he stood by the balcony all night looking out into nothing, and of cause, the sound coming from Eros's room kept him company, things he wishes he didn't hear, all because of his vampire sensitivity, he had to stop himself from barging into the room and chase both him and the maidens away.

As it was morning, he began hearing their voices again to show they had awakened and decided to greet themselves with another round.

Haldir with an annoyed face went straight to Eros’s room without knocking he kicked the door open and left the two beautiful maidens gathering for their wears.

He stood with a vexed look till they immediately collected themselves and left, leaving him with naked Eros.

He crossed his legs covering his manhood and flashed a smile at Haldir.

“Care to join?” he teased, Haldir chuckled before kicking him off the bed.

“Leave!” he commanded “you had the nerve to take care of your business in my home,” he said still finding it unbelievable that he had to listen to them all night long, only for them to take a few breaks and start again this morning.

“Fairies are the best, they both took me to dreamland, have you tried it with two women before?” Eros asked ignoring the annoyance on his friend's face, as he rose from the ground and began wearing his robes.

“By the way, you don't need to do a ceremony for the officiating of a duke, just open your eyes to the letters and complaints you will be getting from now on,” Eros said walking out of the room trying to avoid Haldir's hard stares.

“You knew this would happen from the start,” Haldir said

“Should I lie and say I don't?” Eros said with a teasing smile “or should I say the truth and say I just got tired of relaying the message I told them to do it themselves and of all people, they choose the previous Duke to do so, which is your supposed father”

Haldir released his facial muscles as he scratches his head obviously stressed, just then Star was seen running in his direction with a panicked look.

I don't know what is wrong with milady” she said trying to catch her breath, as both Eros and Haldir looked at each other.

“What is wrong with her?” Eros asked

“I don't know, she is struggling in her sleep and has refused to wake..” before she could finish her words, Haldir's legs already began leading him to her room, Eros had to follow behind although he doubted if his attention was needed.

As they got to the room, Zephyr was already sitting by her side trying his best to get to wake up, calling her by her Maiden name, Haldir went closer to her, he had no idea what was going on, he asked Eros to provide a physician while he asked Zephyr to stop as he sat beside her holding her warm hands.

NIMAI.

I was having the same dream, but this time around I could tell it was a dream, she was fighting me physically like I had a twin who looks exactly like me fighting me and calling me names, I couldn't fight back as I tried to make peace with her she outfights me, I began trying to wake up but it wasn't working till I felt an extremely cold hand held me, I was starting into a familiar strange eye pigment, it was the definitely the devil's eyes.

“Nimai” he called out softly to me with a soft gaze, was I still dreaming, I immediately stood up to see almost everyone gathered in my room, Star was sobbing by the corner while the devil was holding my hands, I immediately let go of his hands and held on to Zephyr who was sitting close to me too like the devil.

“What is the problem?” I asked Zephyr confused

“Are you alright?” he asked me “ you weren't waking up and you were struggling” he said, the devil immediately stood up and left without saying a thing as Star came rushing to my side grabbing my hands from Zephyr.

“I was having a nightmare,” I said to them, I have never seen people care so much for me, Star hugged me tightly sobbing saying how much I scared her and how she thought something terrible was happening to me, and their master had sent lord Eros to get the Physician before I finally awoke.

Zephyr eventually left so I can take a warm bath and change, while Star treated me like I was sick, not allowing me to touch a thing, I began to feel bad, why do I have to be treated so good here, like I was royal, even the devil is not hard on me, felt like I was on some relaxation break, I Don't do a thing all day, I have an aid who treat me like an egg, I don't want to get used to the whole thing, the devil hasn't discussed much about me and my stay, yes we have made a deal, I need to begin working so he doesn't send me away yet.

“Your eyes are brown again milady” Star pointed out as she combed my hair, I had freaked out the previous day, wait about the party

“How come I can't remember about the party,” I asked and she smiled

“You Don't remember? You were drunk, I had thought you would wake up with a heavy headache but rather you refused to wake up” As she said that I began to feel my head spinning as if she had activated the supposed headache or it has been there the whole time but I choose to ignore them

“How did I return then if I was drunk?” I asked her, I only remember being by Zephyr's side and meeting his father

“Master brought you back, he carried you like his bride” Star giggled and my face dropped

“You mean the devil carried me back?” I asked going insane already imagining myself in his arms

“Devil?” Star asked confused

“I mean your master”

“Master carried you himself and he stayed with you and made sure you went to sleep before he left you, he covered you with this” Star said as she pick up a long white robe which I recognized as the devil's outfit during the party, Memories of me rumbling to him and throwing myself at him began surfacing, just how many times did I hit him, he listened to everything even said he would kill himself.

I immediately facepalmed myself in frustration as Star whined that I was destroying the enhancement she was applying to my face.

“How am I supposed to face him now” I let out in frustration as I watched Star from the mirror giggling

“You are cute,” she said “it doesn't matter, he didn't seem to care about all that,” he said

“Just like you always did, you both will make a lovely couple” she said and I couldn’t even stop myself from glaring hard at her, being a couple with the devil? Heavens forbid

“ I want to go see him” I said standing up even without being done, Star smiled and followed behind, I have no idea what am going to say to him but I want to see him.

“Master is outside Milady” I heard Zephyr’s voice from the dinning,

“Thank you, dearie,” I said changing my direction to the front door as I noticed Zephyr following me too, opening the door Thanatos stood by the door and I could tell he wanted to stop me.

“Master is talking to someone,” he said standing in front of me

“Don't block her, am sure master wouldn't mind” Zephyr said dragging me away from Thanatos, I looked around to see the devil standing with somebody truly, he turned and looked me straight in the eyes, I got tired of starting back when I noticed an oddly familiar face, a lady dressed in a red robe, her golden brown hair so full and curly.

I couldn't tell the look on her face as she stared at me.

As I turned away I heard his voice.

“Come over and welcome the noble” I heard his voice, I didn't want to be involved with whatever was going on, the atmosphere between them sure looked tensed and I refuse to be part of it but for some reason, I looked over at Zephyr as if asking for his permission, as he gave me a reassuring nod, my legs began leading me to the devil. He suddenly reached his hands out to me and smiled, what was going on, is this woman his lover? Is he trying to make her jealous by offering me a hand, his smile was indeed charming and gentle, and I slowly took his hand now standing beside him receiving an awkward stare from this woman who exudes royalty.

“Dear, met CARA my ex-fianceé,” he said to me quite audible for the woman to hear, the look she gave him proved my theories right, the devil is putting me in a big mess now for I fear this woman is a vampire like the rest, she would suck me dry and feed my bones to stray dogs.“You are Nimai, right?” she suddenly asked, how on earth does she know my name, wait maybe I met her yesterday when I was drunk too.

“Yes I am Nimai,” I said forcing out a smile and looking at the devil but she shamelessly avoided my gaze, she returned the smile and I could swear they were warnings.

“I came here straight without resting after your party to deliver these letters myself and you didn't even invite me in, remember the engagement is still on, it hasn't been dissolved yet,” she said clearly annoyed before she turned around and elegantly walked away only then did I see the messenger standing behind her carrying a load of paper which I suspect were the supposed letter.
