NATE I hurried over to where the guard was, getting my attention. He crouched by an underground latch. "I found this. I feel it leads somewhere." He said, holding the wooden door of the latch. The prisoners struggled against their bounds and I caught when one of them threw a panicked look at the other. This was something. I looked back at the guard and nodded, looking into the gaping hole with the wooden ladder. "Grab flashlights. Half of you stay here while the other half go with me to check this place." "Yes, sir!" He replied. Two of them climbed down before telling me if the coast was clear. Along with George, I climbed down. The wooden ladder creaked under our weight as we descended into the dark.
