GEMMA "s**t, s**t, s**t!" George exclaimed, running his hand through his hair. I wondered who was going to tell Nate's mother. I wondered if her heart would break. A moment later, George said, "Get in the truck." He walked back towards the vehicle. I looked at him. "Where are we going?" I asked, standing rooted. "I'm thinking. But we need to put some distance between us and them first,” he said. "I don't know if they might come back." I entered the truck and George turned on the engine. George drove with focus, his knuckles white on the steering wheel. We got out of the forest and then took the dirt road. After what felt like an eternity, George slowed the track down and turned onto a narrow, hidden driveway. The trees closed in around us, the road barely wide enough for the truck.
