Chapter 7: Shen Yourong

1365 Words
Shen Rong seemed to sense the malicious look in Lin Yuan's eyes and instantly became wary. "What do you want? I’m warning you, the rescue team is coming soon!" Previously, when there was no hope, she had mentally prepared herself for the worst. But now that she saw a glimmer of hope, her expectations had changed. While Lin Yuan had provided her with temporary safety, he was still far too twisted. "I just want a bite." Lin Yuan wasn’t inherently bloodthirsty. Although the zombie evolution system had significantly changed his mindset, he still had some moral boundaries. He only dealt with problems that threatened him. Shen Rong wasn’t quite a problem yet, especially since she was complicit in the killing. "Don’t even think about it! I won’t let you bite me again!" Relying on the fact that the rescue team would arrive soon, Shen Rong felt a bit more confident. Just as she turned to leave, Lin Yuan grabbed her. "Let go of me!" Although her strength had somewhat recovered, she stood no chance against the enhanced Lin Yuan. "Scream all you want. The louder you scream, the more excited I get. It’d be best if you drew the zombies from outside in." As he spoke, he pulled down her collar, revealing the soft, pale skin below her collarbone. Both of her shoulders were covered with gauze, clearly taking every precaution to prevent infection, leaving Lin Yuan momentarily unsure where to bite. But there was no rule that said he could only bite the shoulder, right? "They're quite full, aren’t they? I’ll let you get away with something today." Lin Yuan swallowed hard and slowly lowered his head. One bite, two bites, three bites. At first, Shen Rong resisted a little, but as the sensation spread through her body, she gradually lost control. Although she bit her lip tightly, she couldn’t stop the shameful sounds from escaping. In just a moment, she instinctively wrapped her arms around Lin Yuan’s head. "Damn it, I almost suffocated!" After a while, Lin Yuan finally pulled away, wiping the blood from his mouth. Shen Rong lay limp on the sofa, panting heavily, her face flushed, and her eyes hazy. "Your name should be Shen Yourong (Shen 'Abundant')." Lin Yuan glanced at the mess he had created and felt a slight twinge of guilt. But when he saw that his evolution progress had increased to 18 points, that guilt was quickly suppressed. People can’t afford to feel guilty if they want to live comfortably. He returned to the bedroom, retrieved the medicine he had brought back the day before, and gently cleaned the marks on Shen Rong’s body with fresh gauze. Lin Yuan had already mastered his strength, leaving only minor skin abrasions that wouldn’t leave any obvious scars. However, the red marks on her skin would probably take a few days to fade away. The cold sensation on her body caused Shen Rong to quickly regain consciousness. When she saw Lin Yuan carefully wiping her wounds and applying ointment, her mind became muddled again. "Don't worry, our relationship hasn't gotten to that point." Lin Yuan could tell that although Shen Rong's physique was somewhat special, she wasn’t the type of person who would give in easily. If he forced himself on her, he might not face much resistance in the moment, but it would definitely bring trouble later. For women like her, it was necessary to win them over emotionally before taking further steps. "When the rescue team comes, we’ll go our separate ways. I never want to see you again!" Shen Rong quickly covered herself, clenched her legs together, and hurried back to the bedroom, visibly flustered. She was running out of clean clothes to change into. "Looks like next time I'll have to bite her arm." The progress from a dozen bites had pushed his evolution points forward significantly, but time was running out. If the rescue team really did arrive, he would lose his method of gaining evolution points. But for now, he had to deal with the problem upstairs. Opening the office door, Lin Yuan picked up a fire axe and stepped out. He circled the third floor, attracting all the zombies one by one, then slowly guided them up the stairs to the fourth floor. Without making much noise, he crept to the office door. The door was broken, but the survivors had blocked it with cabinets and tables, which provided some measure of defense. "When the rescue team arrives, we have to report Lin Yuan! That murderer must pay with his life!" "Yes! And Shen Rong too, they’re in it together! They must be having an affair!" Lin Yuan listened for a while before silently retreating. He led the zombies into the fourth-floor office area and corridor, then went up to the fifth floor and drew down the zombies from there as well. A dozen zombies gathered together, making the fourth floor lively in an instant. These zombies aimlessly wandered the fourth floor, and before long, they had all swarmed to the office door. It wasn’t long before the survivors inside heard the chaotic footsteps outside. Looking through the cracks in the barricade, they were almost scared to death. The hallway was packed with zombies, swarming as if they could sense the living people inside, or maybe it was the scent of Jiang Yaojin's blood. They relentlessly attacked the makeshift barricade, while the screams and panic from within only made things worse. The survivors, having no clear leader, were quickly thrown into chaos. Soon, the door gave way, and the zombies poured in. The office was filled with the sound of screams, which quickly fell silent, leaving only the noise of flesh being torn apart and devoured. Although these people indirectly died by his hand, Lin Yuan felt only a brief moment of hesitation before returning to normal. His heart grew even calmer. Anyone who has killed before knows that while the first time brings fear and anxiety, by the second or third time, it becomes just a matter of adrenaline and thrill. Especially in this chaotic, apocalyptic era, no one would bother to investigate such matters. And even if they did, Lin Yuan could easily blend into the horde of zombies and live far away from any semblance of order. Returning to the third floor, Lin Yuan opened the door to find Shen Rong waiting by the entrance, a hint of worry on her face. "There was a loud noise upstairs earlier. Did something happen?" The building wasn’t that tall, so any loud sounds from above could easily be heard below, especially when they were that intense. "The people upstairs were fighting zombies. I guess they’re thinking that since the rescue team is almost here, they’d better get downstairs and secure a good spot." Lin Yuan casually made up an excuse. Whenever this woman felt danger, her attitude toward him changed instantly. "Should we also find a better spot to be rescued?" The office building wasn’t in an ideal location, and the third floor wasn’t exactly a priority for rescue. If they could find a place on the first floor, they’d be taken away as soon as the rescue team arrived. "Should I just deliver you directly to the rescue team?" Lin Yuan couldn’t help but sarcastically retort. Shen Rong, who had been excited just moments ago, immediately deflated and quietly returned to the bedroom. Without internet or electricity, things were unbearably boring. The lack of information from the outside world created an unsettling sense of fear. Luckily, Lin Yuan could sit by the window and count heads. The city had a population of millions, and judging by the survivors in the office building, at least 70% had turned into zombies—a terrifying number. The horde of zombies lured by the helicopters surged through the streets, forming a dense tide. Any zombies with broken limbs were relentlessly pushed forward. If they stumbled and fell, they were trampled by countless others, leaving a thick layer of flesh and blood behind. In less than half a day, the entire city's streets were covered with a red carpet of blood, emanating a foul stench.
