Chapter 3: He Is Not Human

1320 Words
Two weeks. I had been trapped in the golden cage of Frost Manor for exactly fourteen days, and with every passing hour, the realization scratched at my sanity: Damien Frost was not normal. The signs were subtle at first, masked by the high-tech marvels of 2026, but to a girl who grew up watching details to survive, they were glaring anomalies. The Food: He never ate a single bite of food in front of me. While my meals were multi-course masterpieces designed by a private nutritionist, his diet consisted entirely of black coffee. The Heat: His skin was a literal furnace. Once, when handing me a glass of water, our fingers brushed. His body temperature felt like a scalding $42^circtext{C}$, yet he didn't have a fever. The Servants: The manor’s staff were eerily polite, moving with a synchronized, predatory grace. And twice, I could have sworn I saw the butler’s eyes flash a predatory silver under the smart lights. But the real horror began on the night of October 15, 2026—the night of the supermoon. The Lockdown By midday, the manor’s automated smart system went into emergency lockdown. The transparent glass walls polarized into solid, blast-proof steel shields. The air grew thick with a suffocating tension. Damien found me in the library. His tailored suit was gone, replaced by a loose black shirt, and his veins were pulsing visibly against his collarbone. He looked feral, dangerous, like a wild animal trying to force itself into a human mold. "Tonight, you stay in your room, Emma," he rasped. His voice was deeper than usual, a gravelly vibration that rattled my ribcage. "No matter what you hear. No matter how loud it gets. Do not open the door." "Damien, you're shaking," I said, my heart taking a nervous leap. "Are you sick? Let me call a doctor—" "No!" he roared, snapping his head toward me. For a terrifying second, his eyes weren't just flashing gold—they were completely consumed by a molten, burning flame. He flinched, gripping the edge of the mahogany table so hard the solid wood cracked under his bare fingers. "Just... stay in your room," he whispered, his breathing ragged. "I am dangerous tonight. Please, Emma. Don't make me hurt you." The Nightmare in the Courtyard I obeyed. I locked myself in my ultra-luxurious suite. But by 2:00 AM, the silence became too loud. A primal, bone-chilling howl ripped through the manor walls, echoing from the central courtyard. It didn't sound like a dog, or a wolf. It sounded like something ancient. Something monstrous. Driven by a mix of terror and morbid curiosity, I tapped the room's holographic control panel, overriding the polarization of the smart window overlooking the courtyard. The holographic camouflage dissolved, and my breath hitched. The courtyard was bathed in the blood-red light of the supermoon. Down below, dozens of the manor’s elite staff were gathered. And then, the nightmare began. Their bodies began to contort. I watched in horrific fascination as bones snapped and reshaped, flesh tearing and reconstructing in milliseconds. Where humans once stood, massive, terrifying beasts now paced. Werewolves. They were the size of small cars, their fur sleek and their jaws dripping with saliva. And in the center of them all stood Damien. He fell to his knees, ripping his black shirt to shreds. His spine elongated, thick black fur erupting from his skin. He didn't cry out in pain; he let out a thunderous, earth-shattering roar that shook the very foundation of the estate. When the transformation was complete, a gargantuan midnight-black wolf stood in the center of the pack. He was magnificent. Terrifying. A god among monsters. His head snapped up. His piercing, intelligent golden eyes locked directly onto my window. He knew I was watching. I let out a blood-curdling scream, stumbling backward into the center of my room. But the room's smart audio sensors picked up my panic, automatically broadcasting the distress signal across the manor’s security frequency. The Beast in My Room Within three seconds, the heavy, reinforced steel door of my bedroom was literally torn off its hinges with a deafening metallic screech. "Stay back! Stay away from me!" I screamed, pulling the duvet over myself as I sobbed in the corner of the bed. A massive silhouette stepped through the dust. It wasn't the full wolf, but a grotesque, half-shifted nightmare. He was an apex predator in a semi-human form—claws like daggers, a jaw full of razor-sharp fangs, and those burning golden eyes fixed entirely on me. "I told you... not to look," he growled, the sound a mix of a human man and a roaring beast. He took a step toward the bed, the floorboards groaning under his immense weight. I clamped my eyes shut, waiting for the claws to tear my throat out. But the pain never came. Instead, I heard a heavy thud, followed by the sound of agonizing, ragged breathing. I opened my eyes slightly. The fur was receding. The claws were shrinking. Damien was forcing his monstrous side back down, his bare skin dripping with sweat as he collapsed onto his knees at the foot of my bed. He looked exhausted, vulnerable, and completely broken. "I’m not a monster, Emma," he choked out, his human voice returning, though it was utterly wrecked. "I am a Lycan. The Alpha of the Silver Moon pack." The Truth and The Ultimatum I curled myself into a tight ball, my voice trembling. "Werewolves... you control the global tech market, the real estate... you're all monsters?" "We are a hidden society," Damien explained, refusing to look up, as if he couldn't bear to see the revulsion in my eyes. "We have ruled from the shadows for millennia. I brought you here because the moment I saw you, my Lycan side recognized you. You are my fated mate, Emma." "Your mate?" I cried, tears streaming down my face. "You don't even know me! You kidnapped me with money!" "Because I am a possessive, selfish bastard!" Damien roared softly, finally raising his eyes to meet mine. There was no malice in them—only a deep, agonizing desperation. "Lycans live for hundreds of years. I have lived 120 years in complete, frozen darkness. I thought I was incapable of feeling anything. But the second I saw you kneeling on that floor, my world turned to color. I became a slave to your existence." He dragged himself forward on his knees, stopping just short of touching my foot. "I bought your contract because it was the only way my sick, twisted mind knew how to keep you safe. But I swear to you, I will never force myself on you. I want your heart, Emma. Not just your body." I stared at him, my mind completely shattered by the revelation. A billionaire Lycan King was kneeling before a penniless human cleaner, begging for her affection. It was absurd. It was insane. "But you need to know one thing," Damien's voice dropped, becoming deadly serious. His golden eyes locked onto mine with an unyielding intensity. "What?" I whispered. "You now know the secret of our kind. By Lycan sacred law, any human who discovers our existence must face one of two fates: immediate execution, or forced extraction." My breath caught. "You're going to kill me?" "Never," Damien said fiercely, his hand hovering over my knee, craving warmth but refusing to take it without permission. "There is a third option. A loophole reserved only for the King. If you accept the mate bond and become my official Queen, the law cannot touch you. You will be protected by the entire pack." He looked at me, his soul bared in his eyes. "But for that option to work... I need your voluntary consent. You have until the next full moon to decide, Emma. Choose to be my Queen... or choose the executioner's blade.”
