CARTER I’m standing at Rory’s backyard, watching her commandeer an entire army of men, telling them why she needed this here and why she didn’t need that there—it is an amazing sight, really, one that I haven’t been able to pull my eyes away from in over twenty minutes—when I hear footsteps coming up behind me. I’m surprised to find that it’s Avery. She stops abruptly when my eyes land on her and visibly swallows.
