RORY “Carter…” He shakes his head and makes a move to step around me, but I wrap my hand around his bicep, stopping him. He goes still as a statue. “Didn’t you listen to a thing I said? I don’t want you to avoid me.” He looks down at me with narrowed eyes filled with anger. “I have to. You’re my f*****g client, Rory.” Frustration wells up inside me and I shove my hands into my hair, pulling on the strands. “Would you stop f*****g bringing that up?” Carter actually ponders on this like it’s a serious question and not a rhetorical one. “Probably not,” he eventually says. The bloody conversation is pissing me off more than it is resolving anything and if that’s the case, then I’d rather not have it at all. It’s crazy because for a second back there, I’d thought we were making progress. O
