Chapter 2

The next day at school. I walked through the front doors and my best friend Skye came up to me practically bouncing in place. As usual, that's just how Skye is. I wish I had her energy sometimes. I looked at her with my left eyebrow raised, it's kind of my signature look. Practically asking her 'What?' Skye stopped bouncing and asked. "Have you seen the new guy?" I furrowed my brows at her like she was crazy. I had just walked through the door how would I have seen this new guy. She rolls her eyes at me and begins to explain. "His name is Luke. He's tall, dark, and handsome with this bad boy vibe about him. He is utterly dreamy in every way. Oh, and he has every class with you." Looking at her even more confused now. "You got all that in the ten minutes you've been here?" "Well duh." I rolled my eyes and headed to my locker, as I rounded the corner I saw the new kid standing right by my locker. As I got closer I realized his locker was right by mine. Skipping the trip to my locker altogether I just headed for my first period. I walked in headed for my normal seat and pulled out my notebook and began to doodle. It's what I do before class since I'm always early. I didn't realize I zoned out till I felt someone's heavy gaze on me. Looking at my doodle I realized I was drawing a black wolf, like the one last night. I closed my notebook and looked up to meet the heavy gaze I felt lingering on me. When our eyes met I was locked in place for a moment, staring at two different colored eyes. One dark brown, like the richest chocolate. The other resembles creamy caramel. Breaking his gaze, I moved mine downward examining him from head to toe. He was wearing a black motorcycle jacket with a black form-fitting v-neck T-shirt, that showed off every single sculpted muscle he had. He looked like a carved greek god with wide broad shoulders and strong legs in tight black jeans that were cuffed up at the ankle followed by Harley Davidson boots. Scanning back up I realized he stood at least six foot seven inches tall and his shoulders tapered down perfectly. Deciding to ignore him I pulled out my homework. I felt his presence move closer to me and take the seat to my right, all the while I could still feel his heavy gaze on me. Why won't he stop staring at me? I wondered. He, broke me out of my concentration when I heard him suddenly say. "Hi, I'm Luke," He said while holding out his hand. He had a surprisingly deep voice. It sent shivers down my back but I didn't let it show. His tone had a certain dominance to it that I couldn't quite figure out. I slowly reached my hand to shake his and when our skin met I felt a weird tingle go up my arm. That was weird. Pulling my hand back I mumbled, " Yeah, I'm Ray." He seemed to play that over in his mind as if he was seeing if that name suited me. I raised my eyebrow at him, questioningly. I went back to doing my Homework, then class started. After a little bit, the teacher called me over to her desk. I got up wondering what she could want. The whole time I could still feel his gaze on me. She surprised me by saying. "Ray I want you to show Luke around the school and to his classes today since you have the same schedule and I will write you a pass for today as well." I looked at her in astonishment but quickly checked myself because my mouth had dropped open. Still surprised I just nodded at her with a mumbled, "Yeah sure." She smiled and said thanks. I walked back to my seat wondering why she didn't ask one of the 'A' students to do it, then I remembered what Skye said. 'You have every class with him.' When I got back to my seat I slid a little further away from him and went back to my work until the bell rang. Then I slung my bag over my shoulder and muttered "Come on." I walked out the door to our second period. To my surprise, he was right next to me keeping in step with me. I rolled my eyes and kept walking. When we got to second period I walked to my seat in the back finding he sat next to me again. But I guess I shouldn't have expected anything else the seat next to me was the only one open. So I just wished he wouldn't sit next to me in third period. But when third period rolled around my wish wasn't granted. When I pulled out my notebook and started the assignment, he brushed my arm to get my attention he then asked, "What are you doing?" in his deep timber voice that once again gave me chills I had to fight not to show. What is wrong with me? I then pointed to the board then the teacher "Go ask her." I mumbled then went back to my work. I could've sworn I heard him give a sad sigh but it was gone as fast as it came. I couldn't help but watch him walk to the teacher's desk. He practically floated with how graceful he walked, it was amazing. Ugh, what am I thinkin'? I went back to my work and finished my essay, got up to turn it in, and sat back down. Pulling out my book while I propped my knees up on the edge of the desk making sure not to give him any reason to talk to me. Turns out that was a fail because as soon as I started reading I hear him say "what are you reading?" When he clearly could see the cover. I tried not to glare in his direction while answering "Never Cry Werewolf...Why?" I looked over at him with my head tilted sideways so I could see him, eyebrow raised as well. "I don't know. just wondering I guess," he mumbled as he got back to his work right as the bell rang. I grabbed my bag and headed to lunch. As we were passing our lockers I felt him pull my arm. I stopped and turned to glare at him when I felt the tingles again. What did those tingles mean? What are they? "What the hell?" I snapped at him afraid of the tingles and not particularly fond of being touched. "What do you need? Its lunch now I'm off duty, you're a big boy I'm sure you can figure it out from here." I tore my arm away from his grasp. Feeling somewhat sad I didn't feel the tingles anymore but I put that aside. He looked taken aback as if nobody has ever talked to him like that before and tilted his head. I continued my glare with my eyebrow raised. "I just wanted to say Thank you." I looked at him puzzled. Then he walked off. I watched him walk away in almost like a trance till Skye came bouncing up to me and asked "what was that all about?" looking at me questioningly. I shrugged and went off to go sit down at our table knowing Skye was following. She sat down in front of me and began to assemble her sandwich, Skye is an odd one. She always has to assemble her sandwich at lunch, never before. She has texture issues. "Ok spill. What was that all about? Why did he have a hold of your arm? And why did he seem so focused on you?" She then took a bite of her sandwich eyes fixated on me awaiting my reply. Rolling my eyes at her I replied. "First of all, he was thanking me for showing him around to our classes. Second of all, I don't know and before you ask why I showed him around our homeroom teacher told me too." Skye the eighth wonder of the world. No one will ever know why she is always hyper or why she knows everything about everything. I took another sip of my Sobe and almost choked when she asked, all of a sudden. "Do you like him?" Giving me her 'I'm so innocent' eyes but I knew she was internally laughing her ass off. She's been my best friend since we were little kids so she knew how to read me when most don't. Which means she knows what buttons to push. I coughed through my choking episode. Replying in a gravelly voice "Have you lost your mind? Not to mention why in the world would I like him? I just met him. I was only playing mother duck because the teacher asked me to." She gave me a look that said 'Yeah uh huh Ok, whatever you say she infuriated me sometimes. Going back to her sandwich. She paused mid-bite her eyes locked on something behind me with her eyebrows raised in surprise. I only had to turn slightly to see what caught her attention. There stood mister dark and mysterious himself. He looked right at me when he asked, "Can I sit with you?" Right as I was about to turn him down, Skye beat me to it. "Of course, you can." She said while patting the table next to me as if saying 'Here sit by Ray.' I stayed quiet, keeping my attention on my drink. He sat down next to me bumping my shoulder in the process. Even through our clothes, I could feel the tingles. Skye was pretending to have her attention on her lunch but I knew she was examining him from head to toe. I gave her a warning glare to drop it. Being best friends for as long as we have she knows the threat behind my eyes is empty on her. But, I froze mid drink when I heard her ask, "So Luke what do you think of Granite Falls and everybody here so far?" I gave her a real glare then, only getting a sly smile from her in return. I was frozen for some reason awaiting his answer. Trying to calm down the wolf from last night popped into my head again, calming me for reasons I didn't know. He took a sip of his diet coke before answering, "It's pretty here, I love how thick the forest is here. The people have been very nice as well, especially Ray?" he glanced at me as he finished his sentence. Hearing my name slide off his tongue and the way he said it gave me chills. Making me thankful I decided to wear a long sleeve today, so no one could see the goosebumps rising on my skin. I got up, getting uncomfortable with the awkward silence. I headed to my locker to put my jacket away. I felt extra warm all of a sudden. As I shut my locker I could hear Skye walking up to me. She gave me a look as she passed saying 'We aren't finished with this topic' I rolled my eyes at her, heading outside to sit on the bleachers. This was my free period as long as I was passing my classes I could do whatever I want. So I was sitting outside on the bleachers listening to H.I.M. Staring at the forest line that's behind our school wishing I could feel the forest floor beneath my feet right now. Ever since I can remember I've had this weird connection to the forest. Its always been my happy place, my escape from reality. Lost in my thoughts of the forest and all its smells and sounds. I didn't notice that someone was sitting next to me until I felt a tap on my shoulder that left tingles in its wake. I knew who it was, Luke. The tingles he leaves are starting to become a trademark for him, along with that signature heavy gaze he had. I pulled an earbud out when I saw his lips moving, catching the tail end of what he said "- listening to?" His eyebrows were furrowed while gazing at me. Like he was trying to figure me out. 'Good luck' I thought. I knew what he asked me even if I didn't hear the whole sentence. It's not rocket science. So I replied "H.I.M" He gave me a nod in response. He turned to lean his back against the side of the bleachers so his legs were on the bench knees slightly bent up. He then pulled out what looked like a sketchbook. Seeing that he was going to leave me alone, I pulled my book out, put my other earbud back in, and started reading. I lost track of time, completely engulfed in the world of my book I was currently reading. Until I heard the bell. I grabbed my stuff and headed down the bleachers, headed back inside the school. I felt his presence not far behind me so before I went in the door I paused for a second keeping my back to him. When I felt him get closer that's when I walked through the door headed to our fifth period. This was the class I had with Skye. I took my seat next to her. I watched Luke walk in and glance over the room quickly seeing the only open seat was in the front. I could've sworn I saw a flash of disappointment in his eyes, but it was gone as soon as it came. Fifth period was science. I really like science. Right now we were watching a movie about how volcanos form. I was engulfed in the movie, knowing there will be a quiz on it later. That I didn't notice the note that appeared on my desk until Skye tapped my hand. Glancing at it I saw his name was written in a calligraphy style on the front. Seeing whose name it was I rolled my eyes but I unfolded the note. The note is written in the same penmanship as the name on the front. ' Thank you again for showing me around today. I know you didn't want to but the teacher had asked so you said yes. I have issues with certain people and I think you can relate. So I'm glad she asked you instead of one of those valedictorian types. Anyway, I was wondering if you'd show me around town sometime too, or maybe study. Help me get caught up on some of this work. It feels like we have a few things in common I'd like to get to know you better. Maybe give you a ride home? P.S What's wrong with Skye she seems unusually hyper? Lol' The part about Skye made me grin slightly the rest just made me sigh but I got out my notebook and wrote a note back. ' Thanks for the ride offer but I'm good. Sure ill show you around town sometime. Get caught up on what work I've seen you finish everything since this morning. P.S. Yes she is always hyper. I call her the eighth wonder of the world .' I folded it up and handed it to Skye. She was the best at passing notes without a teacher seeing. I saw him grin slightly when he started reading. He jotted something else down and passed it back. 'You won't study with me. How bout' you make me a playlist to study too? I liked the sound of what you were listening to earlier.' I read then wrote back 'Sure.' and passed it back. He read it, folded it back up, and put it in his pocket. Glancing back at me he gave me a small sideways smirk that could have made my knees go weak. If I wasn't already sitting down. What was happening to me I thought. Skye leaned over and whisper." What was that about?" I gave her the look of, I'll tell you later. Next period I had history and Skye had drama. I headed to class with Luke right behind me. Once in class, I took my seat in the back. Once again the only seat available for him was in the front. I saw the same flash of disappointment as I did last period, cross his eyes. This class always went fast for me, Because after the teacher gave his lecture we then had a worksheet to do. I was always the first done so I usually read the rest of the period. When the bell rang I slung my bag over my shoulder, already packed up. I walked out and headed to the parking lot. Skye was already waiting for me leaning against my jeep. Her class always got let out early. I unlocked it as I walked up to her. She was already buckling up when I reached my door. Getting in I threw my bag in the back. I was buckling up when I heard a motorcycle come to life. For as long as I've lived here no one has ridden a motorcycle to school. So I knew it could only belong to one person. Luke. It was nice to know that the boots and jacket weren't just a show though. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Skye's mouth drop open at the sight of him. He was sitting on a 2016 Harley Davidson Fatboy S. I even felt my eyebrows raised of their own accord. He put his helmet on, visor down, and glanced in my direction before speeding out of the parking lot. He was headed up the Mountain loop. 'Interesting' I thought. Shaking my head I started my jeep and took Skye home.
