Wrong day

Selene was out of the door and she ran outside in the pavement. She was so angry and disappointed and... Why was this happening?! How could he be Ares? Why was this s**t keep happening to me? Thoughts kept swirling in her brain and she felt the urge to talk to her mom. She had some explaining to do! Half-brother?! Half of the prophecy?! What was up with that?! Talking to Zeus was useless. He wouldn't budge after what happened this morning but that would be so much easier. Mom was great but her riddles and veiled threats... I want information right now! As Selene tried to teleport to her secret dimension to speak to Hera she realized her powers were out. "Just great!", Selene muttered under her breath, "What am I supposed to do now?" I can't go to mom's, I can't go home, I'm stranded here powerless and all thanks to that jerk, she thought to herself. Part of her brain was stuck on a powerless part of the problem. First of all, Endy didn't try anything funny but that's probably because he has that amnesia or mental block, as soon as he remembers who he is the s**t is gonna hit the fan. Second, there were some witness's to my blackout and if the word gets around everyone who has a bone to pick with me is gonna try and attack. I don't have enemies per se, but Ares's children were dangerous, every demon or half-god or anything I pissed off over the years is gonna want to take a crack at me. She wasn't afraid of getting hurt, she was used to it. She wasn't really afraid of dying, she lost the motivation to fight another day a few hundred years ago. Her existence was painful in all kinds of interesting ways. Loneliness was a hard burden. I didn't mind spending time away from my family and people but being alone was a whole different story. Zeus was there and I'm sure he loves me in his strange way but he's distant. Sometimes I feel his sadness when his watching me, like he's blaming me for the f****d up way our destinies went. Mom was... she was a different kind of pain. Not being able to touch her and be with her always killed my spirit. The rest of my family was scattered around the world not really interested in me or my life. As long as I leave them alone, they leave me alone. Humans are hard. Their stupidity is their best quality but I'm not always in the mood for their antics. Being all-powerful makes it hard to be friends with them. Also, I lost my will to ignore their faults which are many. No one really felt like home to me. Well, no one until now. Selene conjured Endy's face in her mind. He felt like home. I felt alive when he touched me. I wanted him to touch me more in every possible way. I wanted to tell him everything about me, to let him console me, to let him make it all better. But... he was the enemy. Wether he was Ares or Helios, he was gonna take revenge on me or try to use me, like everyone else. And that broke her heart. She didn't know why was she so gutted about that, it's not like it never happened before. Something was so devastating about the possibility of him betraying her that she shook her head to remove that dark thoughts from her head. Where to now? She thought about turning back to Romeo's but she didn't really want to go back there. That was not the reality she wanted to face. But where to go? As she wondered she started walking in no particular direction. She didn't even notice that the air around her started to shimmer and soon she was no longer on the bustling city street. She was walking through garden and only the sudden silence snapped her out of her daze. The garden was opulent and the air was heavily scented with hyacinth, lily, anemone and Selene's favorite white rose. The perfumed flowers made her lightheaded. The hedges were neatly trimmed and had different shapes. Every pavilion had a special theme, on her left everything was inspired by bunny rabbits. A centerpiece was a hedge trimmed in a shape of a rabbit. On her right was a cat inspired pavilion, the flower beds were littered with tiger lilies and cat nip. The moon was shining brightly washing everything in a silvery glow and Selene finally felt her powers restoring. Her eyesight became clearer and she could feel that the garden was a little bit more enchanted than it looked. The plants and flowers were pure magic. "Grandma?", Selene called tentatively. A small breeze picked up and caressed her cheek and the bell-like laughter could be heard as the wind passed. A small figure of a woman materialized from the wind with a jet black hair and warm brown eyes. She had a boyish build, small chest, narrow hips, slender limbs and appeared to be in her early forties. She was so much older and to be honest, she didn't look like titan goddess of fruitfulness. Her skin was sun-kissed and her fingernails had some dirt underneath them. This garden was her grandmother's domain. It was also self-imposed prison. Not one of her children blamed her for Cronos's wrongdoings but her guilt remained. Her kindness was often mistaken for weakness or even foolishness. She was always capable of defeating Cronos herself, she just couldn't bring herself to do it. Love... Selene shuddered. Love was the reason she endured his abuse. Once, when Selene was a little girl and had just found about history of her people, Rhea teleported her to the garden. They spent whole day making flower crowns and herbal medicines so Selene dared to ask her about the past and love. "I hope your destiny will be better than mine, I hope love will not kill your heart, engoní.", Rhea finally replied after looking at the skies for a long time. She always insisted using greek endearments, something Hera preferred also. Those words always stuck with her through the ages and Selene was partly relieved that her love life was... well, nonexistent. "I missed you so much, dear engoní! So, so much!", Rhea said while taking Selene in a crushing hug. Selene grunted but still smiled, "I missed you to, yiayia!" "What happened to you, I could barely sense you to teleport you here?", Rhea asked worried. "Oh, grandma... nothing much, I just met my dream guy and he left me absolutely powerless.", Selene said as she played with some flower petals. "Dream guy? Do tell.", Rhea said cheerfully but her forehead was creased, she was worried. "There is nothing much to tell, I was dreaming about him for some time and today I met him. He's strange in the sense I couldn't feel him out. I tried harder and he sucked me into his subconscious mind where I lost all my powers.", Selene recited in one breath. "Oh, the best part - he doesn't have any memory of his past but my friend Romeo suspect he's either Ares or Helios.", she added. Rhea's eyes flashed flames and she spoke in her titaness-voice, "WHAT?" Earth slightly trembled. Rhea didn't respond well to anything she perceived as a threat to her family. "Relax, grandma!", Selene quickly said, "He didn't try to hurt me, he actually helped me. And he doesn't remember anything, he can't even use his powers. Until today, he didn't even know he had them!" Rhea was slightly calmer but her eyes were still all flamy and not brown. "Actually, I have a question for you.", Selene said trying to change the subject, "Do you know something about the prophecy of my birth being only partly told by The Fates?" Rhea looked surprised, "No... Where do you get that idea?", she asked. "It came up in conversation. I guess it's a matter of interpretation.", Selene said absent-mindedly a bit disappointed. "But you can help me solve another mystery. Do you know what Helios looks like? Can you tell if he's my dream guy?" "I don't think I can help you with that. The only time I saw him was when he was a baby. His mother Theia brought him to me. He looked like her, he was a pretty baby boy. What does this stranger look like?", Rhea asked not really able to hide disapproving tone in her voice. "He has brown hair and golden eyes, full bottom lip, a few freckles on his nose which only makes him look hotter somehow... strong built, I didn't see him in a fight but somehow I know he's a deadly opponent...", Selene's voice trailed off. Rhea was starting to smile because she saw that her granddaughter had a smile of her own on her lips when she spoke abot her 'dream-guy' as she called him. Rhea was burned by love badly, her soulmate was a monster who hurt children, even his own, but she couldn't help but wish for hwr granddaughter to experience the love of her own. There was no greater power on this world than pure love. She knew and believed that with hee whole heart. Everybody deserved to be loved, even the evil ones... like Cronus. She was his saving grace, he just wasn't able to see that. "You like this man, engoní?", Rhea asked looking at Selene's face. "No! I can appreciate a fine looking male but like is a strong word!" "Do you feel afraid of him?" Rhea pushed. "I don't feel fear, but... he makes me feel weak in a lot of different ways.", Selene answered blushing furiously. Rhea started laughing, her bell-like laughter filling the silent garden. "Oh my dear, you are in for a bumpy ride!" she told Selene between the bouts of laughter. Selene was feeling embarrassed and a little annoyed. Not sure what to say to her grandmother she just sat there waiting for Rhea to stop laughing. "I'm sorry, engoní, but it's funny and I'm so happy for you. You finally found someone who you like and it's gonna be beautiful!" Rhea said as Selene watched her dumbfounded. Was this the same woman who was ready to beat Endy to a bloody pulp?! "It's ok, grandma.", Selene said weakly. This day was long and full of emotional ups and downs and she felt tired all of a sudden. "I think I'm gonna get going now. I need to rest, today was hard." "You go rest, engoní. You will need your strength.", Rhea replied still chuckling. "I love you, grandma." "Love you too, come visit me soon. I wanna hear details!" "Sure...", Selene said not wanting to explain that she doesn't plan to see Endy again. It's better that way. With a final hug, Rhea teleported Selene away back to the street near Romeo's bar. As her feet hit the pavement a bright flash blinded her. "There she is. Hello, princess.", a cold voice said. "What do you want?", Selene scanned the group of men surrounding her. She recognized Romeo's patrons from today in the back. But her main concern was the leader. "And where is Tweedledee?" she asked mockingly. The leader inhaled sharply, "You have a big mouth for someone who's powerless in front of a mere human, princess." "I see that your rats didn't waste any time, Phobos.", Selene said trying to feel out where Deimos was hiding. Phobos and Deimos were twin brothers, sons of Ares who tried to kill her so many times she lost count. She was stronger than them but they were dangerous as they attacked as a team and being the sons of Ares, they xould hold their own in a battle. Phobos was fear and Deimos was terror. Clearly, a lovely pair of sociopaths. They hated her with a passion and after the events of her birth, they aligned themselves with the Titans. Iapetus, to be exact. He was the closest thing to a father fugure as he was sociopath himself, cruel beyond reason and dangerous as much. "Come out Deimos, Phobos is starting to feel lonely out here!", Selene called at him. They were under impression she was still powerless and she was determined to use that to her advantage. Like a good little helpless girl she started backing away from them step by step until she could locate the other twin. Soon enough, a similar cold voice said near her left side, "Did you miss me, princess?" Deimos attacked instantly but Selene dodged with ease as she was expecting it. Quickly realising they were played, brothers attacked together. Two fists were flying in the direction of her head but she stopped their attack with an energy pulse that threw them on their backs. They quickly jumped back. "I see that we were missinformed.", Deimos said looking furiously at the men shaking in the back. "Yeah, but it's your funeral.", Selene said as she stepped forward grabbing Deimos by the neck. Phobos tried to use that to attack her side but her fast reaction stopped him. Supporting herself on Deimos's neck she flung her legs and kicked him in the head and then head-butted Deimos. What she didn't expect was the attack of one of their soldiers who's right foot connected painfully with her ribs. Using her telekinesis, she picked him up in the air, "You interrupted my victory dance after b***h-slapping Tweedledum and Tweedledee.", she said to the struggling man levitating in mid-air. The rest of the soldiers ran up to her after twins threw them some angry stares and soon enough all of them were struggling several feet from the ground. "Didn't your mothers teach you not to hit girls?", Selene asked and then, with a wave of her hand she bounced them off the wall of the building behind her. Several times. All of them were bloody and yelling profanities at her. "Silence." she said menacingly and snapped her fingers. They dematerialized and there were only twins and Romeo's patrons left. The guys from the bar looked at her stupidly as they saw her go limp and unconscious this afternoon. She was her kick-ass self again and they knew they f****d up. They were dead men, either by Selene or the deranged twins of Ares. Phobos and Deimos got up and attacked again. Phobos swung at her head and she ducked down while Deimos tried to kick her. She grabbed his leg and used his bodyweight to knock Phobos down. Selene summoned her lightnings and she rained them on Romeo's patrons. Soon there were only scorch marks on the pavement where they used to stand. She looked at the crumpling mess of limbs on the ground. "You boys choose a wrong day to piss me off." She summoned two more lightnings in her hands and just when she was about to throw them at the twins they vanished with a sizzle. "What the hell?" Selene was confused, this was the second time today that her power gave out! Running footsteps could be heard coming closer and twins used that moment to teleport away. "Selene!" a man shouted coming closer. "Oh, what the f**k, not you again!", she exclaimed exasperated. "Seriously, you'll be the death of me!" Endy ran up to her, grabbing her by the arms. He was looking at her anxiously, searching for injuries on her. She shook his hands off. "What do you want?!" "Are you ok? I felt that you were in danger!" "I was doing just fine before you showed up! I nearly had them and there you go ruining everything!" "I'm sorry! I didn't know you could handle them! I was worried..." "Well don't be! Everytime I see you, something happens and I lose all my powers!" Endy looked at her anger building up in him. He felt her getting attacked ten minutes ago and he left everything to come and save her and here she was acting like this! No way in hell he's gonna let her treat him like this, god slayer be damned! He ran at super-human speed to get to her and help and she was screaming at him like a banshee! As she stopped for a moment to catch her breath he caught her wincing and holding her ribs. Anger evaporated from him. "What happened to your ribs?", he asked trying to lift up her shirt and look but she kept slapping his hands away. "Nothing. One of their goons kicked me but I'll be fine.", she answered dodging his hands. "Stop grabbing at me!" He looked at her exasperated and in a sudden flash grabbed her and flung her small body over his shoulder. "Put me down this instant!", she yelled at him raining punches at his back but he didn't flinch. "Do you hear me! Put me down!" "Nope." he said popping his lips. "I'll take advantage of the fact that your powers went down." She continued to scream and struggle against him. It was humiliating to be carried like this! "You're so gonna get it when I get my hands on you!" "I'll make sure you can slay another day, baby. First, Romeo is gonna fix your ribs and then I'll let you try beat me to a pulp.", Endy replied dryly. "I'M NOT A BABY!", Selene screamed at Endy's back as he entered Rome's bar with her in tow "What the Hades' hell is going on?!", Romeo asked as he flashed in the room looking at the bizarre sight in front of him.
