After exchanging a few words with the men guarding the Urriaga estate, I order Pablo to escort Ness inside the house and go in search of Alex. I’m surprised to see how much progress they’ve made in repairing the damage caused by our assault a few months ago. There are no more bullet holes in the walls, and as I get closer to the office, I notice how new the flooring and ceiling are.
I stop in front of the polished wooden door. The last time I was here, my father set off the grenade that killed him and almost did the same to Beni.
I don’t bother knocking—I just grab the handle and step inside. Or at least, that was my intention. As soon as I set foot in the office, I realized it wasn’t my best idea.
