CHAPTER 7: NEW FRIENDS – Alexa’s POV

Feeling observed, I looked at Eric who smiled at me, and came my way while saying:” You finally made it! We thought you got lost! Come in and I’ll introduce you to the guys” I smiled back and looked at the 4 men that were now in front of me, analyzing me. He continued: “This is Liam (the slender and smart looking one), William (the ginger older brother), Oliver (the younger ginger brother) and James (the big cuddle bear).

I replied saying: “It’s a pleasure to meet you all”, I then looked directly at James and said: “I think we began on the wrong foot, start over?” He crossed his arms and stared at me with an offended expression.

I continued: “Fine, how about this then, I officially challenge you to a videogame. If I win you never call me a b***h  again or any other insulting name and stop with the pouting baby face (he growled at the baby comment, but I continued). If you win you can continue to say whatever you like without me ever yelling at you again. But if you’re afraid of losing I under…”

He interrupted me with: “Deal!”

Eric immediately intervened: “No no, I have already talked with James about his behavior and it won’t happen again.”

To that James answered grinning: “Sorry, she challenged me.”

He then looked at me and continued: “Which game?”

“Well I was thinking of something new, that maybe came out a day or two ago, so nobody has an advantage”: I stated looking around at the videogames.

I pointed at game that was next to the tv that still had plastic over it and said: “This looks new, let’s do this.”

Oliver stated smiling wickedly: “I bought this game this morning, it came out yesterday and there is a virtual shooting arena inside with zombies, I think it’s perfect”.

I smiled at everyone: “Great, let’s get started”.

Me and James sat next to each other on the couch, while the others stood behind us. The game started and all I had to do was kill James’s virtual player as many times as possible while avoiding the killer zombies.

The thing that nobody knew was that I had already played this game! Months ago, while the game was still being made, the producers had permitted a selection of people to play the beta version in advance, to help them improve the game and fix bugs.

Caroline was one of those selected people and she had let me play this game numerous times, so I already knew what to do and how to play strategically.

Yes, one could say I cheated, but for a greater cause.

I jumped up from the couch when I won, while James just sat there looking shocked. The other guys cheered and laughed with me.

Then I sat back down next to James and said: “No more comments and no more pouting, if you do, I will tell everyone that you lost at a videogame, clear?”

He then looked at me apologetically and simply said: “Ok”.

I got up and said: “I’m hungry now, can we go eat something?”

Everyone agreed and began leaving the game room while Eric took hold my wrist and pulled me back and whispered in my ear: “You are full of surprises, aren’t you?” I looked at him and grinned. We stood there, staring at each other and I stated to feel butterflies in my stomach, was I falling for this guy? I had just met him…today…but he was so… 

“You coming or what?” interrupted Oliver from the door.

“Uhm, yeah, we’re coming” I said clearing my throat and breaking eye contact with Eric and moving towards the door. We entered the kitchen and Oliver asked me: “So did you really attack an Alpha?”

“Oliver!” his big brother shouted while slapping him on the head.

“OW! What was that for?!”: He whined.

Eric sat next to me at the kitchen table and said: “You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want too”.

While James brought plates with hot lasagna for everyone, I started telling what had happened. While I talked, I didn’t look at them, I stared at my lasagna while I remembered everything in perfect detail. I hadn’t even noticed that Eric had put his hand on mine until I had finished my story.

I looked at them and saw weird faces, Oliver was shocked with his mouth open, his brother looked confused, James looked angry and Liam looked thoughtful and said outload, more to himself than me: “So he forced himself on you…”.

“By the way he grabbed me and pushed me up against a wall, I think his intentions were pretty clear…” I said feeling a lump generate in my throat. I felt Eric’s anger washing over me and I could see he was trying to calm himself.

After an awkward silence I said: “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to ruin the atmosphere...”.

James looked at me said: “So do you play videogames in your spare time because no way that was beginners’ luck!” I mentally thanked him for changing the subject and answered grinning: “Would you believe me if I said no?”. After that we continued talking about games and hobbies and I forgot about alphas and danger.

 “I think I’m ready for bed know, a big weird werewolf meeting awaits me tomorrow morning so goodnight” I said smiling at them. They answered in onesome “Goodnight Alexa”.

Eric got up as well and I stopped him by putting a hand on his shoulder: “No please, I have disturbed you enough for today, enjoy the little free time you have left, babysitting can restart tomorrow” I said winking at him.

He nodded and smiled: “Goodnight Alexa, I’ll wake you up tomorrow by knocking on your door ok?” I nodded and left. 

As I was going up the stairs, I heard someone behind me call my name: “Alexa wait”. I turned around seeing James coming up the stairs looking guilty: “I just wanted to apologize… for the b***h comment before, I didn’t…”.

I smiled at him and said: “Water under the bridge, really, ok? Don’t stress.

“I’m so sorry… you’re not a b***h, you’re just sexy” He said grinning.

“You tease, keep these compliments for your mate” I said laughing and her tried to hide his sudden sad expression.

“You now about mates?”: he asked.

I answered: “Yes and to be honest I wish humans had mates, it would be so much easier”.

He nodded and said with a tight smile: “That subjective... anyway goodnight”.

“Goodnight James” I said entering my room. I put my pj’s on and slid under the covers in my bed, I was so tired that fell asleep quickly.
