CHAPTER 10: THE MEETING- Alexa’s POV

1689 Words
He opened a door to one of the meeting rooms for me and when I entered, I saw a long table with a handful of people sitting around it. On the right side of the table, sat a middle-aged man and woman, in their 50’s, who by the way they looked at each other, we’re probably a couple. They both emitted a strong vibe so I thought ley could easily be the Alpha with the Luna.  On the left side of the table, there were also two seats, one where Liam sat down and the other occupied by James, who winked at me, which made me smile. In each corner of the room were four guards and at the head of table laid an empty chair.   I didn’t see Eric, wasn’t he supposed to be here? My thoughts were interrupted by someone speaking. “Good morning Miss White, I’m Ronald Blackhood, previous and now retired Alpha, it’s a pleasure to meet you, please have a seat so we can get started.” I sat down on the empty chair left for me and I said: “The honor is mine Mr. Blackhood, thank you for seeing me and for having accepted me on your territory, even if temporary.” He nodded pleased and presented everyone around the table, including his wife Sarah, the previous Luna.   In the meanwhile, all I could think about was, who was the Alpha then? Oh no. He would have told me, right? As I was thinking that I would have noticed somehow if Eric were the Alpha, he entered the room, apologizing for being late. “And you’ve already met my son Eric, the actual Alpha” Ronald said smiling proudly at him. I coughed, or more correctly, I chocked on my own saliva. “Excuse me. So yes, Eric is the Alpha…” I said looking at Eric confused.  The soon-retired Alpha answered me: “Correct, I thought it was best I be involved too, at least at the beginning because I have had a few encounters with Alpha River in my years as Alpha and, well, he can be a handful. Anyway, Miss White, I know you told the story probably too many times, but could you please repeat it, please?” I nodded and began telling what had happened two days ago. I was not going to run away from this, I wanted that Alpha to rot in jail, so if needed I would tell the story again and again. As usual, when I had finished everyone remained quiet.   Ronald, looked around the table: “Anything to add?” Liam answered: “She is telling the truth. We secretly contacted her friend who had her bag with her, and we confirmed her identity. Also, her flat was completely tossed which makes me think that River probably ordered to look through it to find leverage or something. We also already have a file on her luckily, because she’s the dancing girl…” “Excuse me, I’m sorry but did you just say that you have my bag, broke in my apartment and have a file on me like I’m a criminal or something?” I asked utterly shocked, raising my voice. This made one of the guards in the corner step forward in my direction. Eric put out his hand signaling to stop and answered me calmly: “We do background checks on our human neighbors because in the past we have had a few weirdos, to say the least. We looked into your flat because we didn’t know if you had a husband, kids or parents living with you who needed protection. Finally, we looked into your bag looking to confirm your identity for the same “weirdo” reason I said before. We are sorry if you think your privacy was violated but it was the best way to ensure everyone’s safety.”   I looked at him, and then looked back at Liam and asked confused: “Dancing girl? Seriously?”. Liam nodded looking at my file and said: “Yes our guards see you nearly every evening dancing or doing what looks like toning exercises on your terrace, which we can easily see from our grounds.” “Oh c**p” I said hiding my face between my hands feeling so embarrassed, I wanted to become invisible. “I knew I had seen her before!” said James, who received lots of disapproving looks, mine included.   I had never thought that someone could see me! I love to dance, always have, and dancing in the open on my terrace that only faced trees was a dream come true, freedom and no one watching. Expect I was wrong… how embarrassing.    Eric interrupted my self-pity by saying: “Anyway, the report that you filed at the police station, was sent to the wolf council and they have ordered there to be a trial in one month. In that time, you will stay here on our territory for your own safety. After that, unfortunately we will have to obey what the court decides.” “Wait. So, your saying that they doubt self-defense? What happens if I lose? He goes free?” I asked feeling my breath hitch.  Eric looked at me with a sad face and said with a heavy voice “There are a few possible scenarios: 1.     He wins and goes free. Cleared by the court, he could then sue you for blasphemy, but knowing him he won’t do that…He will make you disappear. 2.     You win and he is sent to jail and demoted. However, like I said, knowing him he will instruct someone to make you disappear…   “Let me get this straight. I’m dead no matter what the court decides?!” I asked as panic started to rise in me. “Yes, he will most certainly have someone eliminate you, it’s how he does things and no matter how much the courts investigate he always gets away with it. The only reason you’re alive now is because you’re on our territory, but to be honest, I think he’s already planning something” Liam answered not looking at me.   “Can’t I stay here? Move her?” I ask hopefully wanting to find a solution.   The ex- Luna spoke with a sad tone when she answered me: “I had proposed such an idea but unfortunately to ensure our packs safety, humans can’t live in our territory for ever. It’s the law, decided and agreed on both by humans and werewolves to avoid as many incidents as possible... I’m really sorry my dear.” “What do I do then?” I simply ask looking at everyone. “We keep looking for a loop hole in the system that will grant us a solution, as for where you get to live.” Eric said seriously and continued: “We have only started thinking about your case for less than two days, in one month I’m positive we can come up with something.” He sounded so sure, I wish I felt that confident... but I just felt hopeless at this point.   An old woman’s voice intervened my negative thoughts: “If she were a werewolf of this pack, she would be safe no matter what the court decides.” I looked behind me and saw an old woman looking at me with deep blue striking eyes, Eric’s eyes, they were related. Ronald stood up and began walking over to the old lady: “Not now mum. This is a serious matter. I’ll talk to you later ok?” he said to her, gently guiding her to the door. “Exactly. If she were to transform in a werewolf, everything would be sorted. She even has the right aura for it” She said answering him but looking at me. I took the opportunity to ask: “I though werewolves were only born, can they be created? How? By a bite? I thought that was a stupid myth.” The old lady ignored her son and position herself in front of me: “You are right my dear, the bite is stupid, I’m talking about the Legend of the Chosen.” she said to me with gleaming eyes. “No, stop it now. It’s a stupid legend. Nothing more. Please mum leave. You’re just confusing the girl. Guard could you help my mother find her way to her house?” Ronald said looking at one of the guards standing in the corner. “Fine fine I’m leaving.” She said to him in an annoyed tone. “Come and find me”: she whispered in my ear before leaving. Ronald went back to sit in his place and smiled at me: “I’m sorry about that, my mother is old and believes in legends and fairytales. Anyway, just to be clear, there is no way for you to become a werewolf.” He said to me. The he turned to look at Eric and asked: “From what I gather you have already started organizing things, right Eric?” He answered: “Yes the pack layers and investigators are already at work with the aim to win the case and I have a few researchers looking into what to do after the court’s decision.” Ronald looked pleased and stood up: “Great son. Ok then, if you need me, you just ask. Miss White, I think we have finished for today, it was...”   I interrupted him getting up too: “I’m sorry but I can’t pay you for your services. My parents left me some money but surely not enough for me to pay your expenses.”  “You don’t to pay us” he said smiling at me. “I don’t want to sound rude or ungrateful, but why? Why are you helping me?..” I couldn’t speak anymore because of the lump in my through, I was about to cry. The Luna came over to me and hugged me. I just stood there not understanding what was happening. “You saved our daughter during her first shift” she said still hugging me. “What?” I asked baffled and totally confused. She let go of me and took my hands in hers and asked: “Tell me about your first encounter with a werewolf” “Years ago, in high school a little girl was lost and she started to transform in the front lawn and…it was your daughter wasn’t it?” I stated looking at her in disbelief.
