Beau's POV - Beau awoke suddenly he saw her again in his dreams, the girl with the green eyes. he wished he knew her name. All he new was that when he see her, she would be his. but he was also afraid, for she is ment to die by his hand. She haunts him. The image of her lingers long after he wakes. She is human, but who is she to him, remains a mystery. Yet something about this girl makes him feel like no other woman has. Alive. And somehow, complete. he doesn't know who she is, but he knows he must find her. But the question is dose he really want to? rubbing my hand over my face, I got up to relive myself. JJ would be getting home with Mrs Cotterson today. I had a whole lecture planned for JJ and her little stunt she pulled on sebastian. Dominic, Shane and myself had searched the whole bloody town looking for her only to find out from Mrs Cotterson that JJ had snuck off to see a bloody concert with her friend Matty. to say I was pissed was an understatement. as I stepped out of the bathroom walking towards my window to where my easel stood, placing a fresh canvas upon stand I grabbed my paint brush. not many people new this but I love to paint. to be honest, at first I hated it but now it has come to mean so much to me. That thoughtless process requires something deeper than words, thought or emotion. I stare intently at a blank canvas until the space between it and myself ceases to exist. For hours and even days, I lose myself, surfacing from the powerful pull of my creation to find something new and wonderful staring back at me. tonight though was the first time I saw those green peersing eyes and flowing raven locks half her face cast in shadow but I new she was peering back at me from the canvas, she stared out at me with fear and accusation, demanding I find her. I ripped the painting off the easel taking it out side and placing it next to the trash. I can't bring her to life, the fear that grips at my heart. I can’t bear it. as i entered the house, Shane looked up, he was leaning on the kitchen counter waiting for the kettle to boil "can't sleep" Shane asked "yeah I was dreaming, dreaming about her again" I shook my head, like I was trying to banish it. Shane offered me a sad smile and then went back to watching the kettle boil. "you?" Shane looked at me again " na can't sleep, but you know me I'm a night owl" Shane chuckled. as I started towards the hall, heading back to my room "night" called out Shane "yeah night" I called back as I closed my door. hoping back in bed, hopeing sleep would take me and it did. I woke up to the sun shining on my face through the gap in my curtin, shielding my face from the sun with my forearm. I rolled out of bed with a groan. and headed to the bathroom for a nice hot shower. after I hoped out I slipped on my dark jeans, black t-shirt and my leather jacket putting on my boots. exiting my room I headed towards the control room, informing Shane and Dominic I was heading out to JJ's. as I walked out the front door I mounted my bike, slipping on my helmet and took off towards JJ's house. as i reached the bottom of her steps, I ascended knocking on the door their was no answer so I reached for the doorknob, expecting to find it locked. I was surprised when it opened with a turn of my hand. JJ was in the main hallway approaching the door, and she didn’t look happy when I entered. “Make yourself at home,” she sarcastically over her shoulder before she disappeared around the corner at the end of the hallway. I texted Shane and Dominic to let them know JJ was home, and then I removed my leather jacket and threw it over the back of the lounge in the lounge room. I was walking around the room looking at photos sitting on the mantel when a shower came on down the hall i stilled as my mind suddenly filled with an image of JJ standing beneath the steaming water. I clenched my fist's at my sides stormed towards the lounge sinking in to it, trying to banish my unholly inappropriate images from my thoughts. It was natural for a mated male to be sexually attracted to his mate, but there was nothing normal about my attraction to JJ. She wasn't that young but she was innocent, and she deserved better than me behaving like a horny teen. I decided to take a tour of the apartment to take my mind off JJ. It was a nice place, comfortable and simply decorated. Mrs Cotterson obviously occupied the largest room at the front of the house. Levi's background check on Mrs Cotterson had revealed that she had been living a simple life, not a lot of friends, she used to work as an assistant pathologist which I found interesting. Now she worked at the library 3 days a week and was involved in a bridge club and visited and volunteered at a retirement home every Friday and Saturday. From everything I’d heard and observed about her, she was a good woman who cared for JJ as if she was her daughter. after a 45 minute had passed I started to wondered what was taking so long. The water had stopped a while ago, and I could hear no sounds of someone moving around up the hall. She certainly wasn't happy to have me here, but she wouldn’t, would she…? I walked down the hall to where I assumed JJ's room was located. On the far side of the room, I saw a bed, a desk which a computer sat upon, a closed door to what was most likely a closet There was a beenbag, a tallboy and 1 overflowing bookcases and a treadmill in the corner but not much else. On the desk and tallboy sat 9 framed photos of her friends, one of a man and a woman who I assumed to be her mother and father judging by the resemblance, one of her employer's and Mrs Cotterson and one of her self. the last one was of her and a woman I didn't recognize. i listen for sounds and heard foot steps approaching that was enough to let me know JJ hadn’t taken off at least, though she was obviously in no hurry to talk either. If my headstrong mate thought I would get tired of waiting and leave, she was in for a disappointment. I wasn’t going anywhere. I walked across the room, intending to go back down the hall when I was drawn to the bookcases instead. There was so much I didn’t know about JJ, and my curiosity got the better of me. her bookcase was made up mainly of well-worn paper backs such john Marsden tomorrow when the war began (she had the whole collection), a lot of romance filled the second shelf but the third shelf held an impressive collection of CD's from the sixties, seventies and eighties I pulled out a album of Michael Jackson thriller, looking at it like it would uncover the secrets of the girl I still knew nothing about. I put the album back on the shelf, I forgot my decision to go back to the lounge room. A few seconds later. “Hey! What do you think you’re doing?” I looked up and sucked in a sharp breath at the sight of JJ standing across the room, wrapped in a blue towel that barely covered her thighs. Water slide down her legs, upper chest and arms, and her hair hung in wet dark curls around her face. a raging Heat shot through me, and my body immediately responded to my beautiful mate. Her voice rose. “Get out of my room and keep your hands off my things.” “You took so long, so I thought you had tried to run off again,” I said in an effort to hide my arousal from her before it became embarrassing for us both. Not that easy, with her standing there half-naked. An irritated blush spread across her skin, and she clenched the top of the towel to her chest. “Well, here I am. so do you mind leaving my room so I can get dressed?” “Of course.” I knew I was invading her space, but she looked so adorable when she was blushing like that I couldn’t help but smile. I stood, and exited the room. I’d almost forgotten the reason I was here tonight. I’d give her the privacy she wanted for now. But we were going to talk weather she wanted to or not. I walked down the hall and into the kitchen, It dawned on me then that, for the first time since we met, I wasn’t worrying about her safety. I smiled wryly because I knew it wouldn’t last. Best to enjoy it while I could I thought to myself. My stomach growled, reminding me I hadn’t eaten breakfast, and I guessed JJ was probably hungry too. I walked towards the fridge checking its contents to see what I could put together for lunch. Our choices were ham or roast chicken, so it was good that I knew how to make a killer sandwich. I heard her coming down the hall as I prepared our sandwiches . “What do you think your doing?” she asked from the hall. “lunch" I said looking back at her. "Hope you like roast chicken with lettuce and tomato.” “Um, thanks… I do,” she replied, clearly confused. turning back to the sandwiches, hiding my grin in the process. once I was no longer smiling, I laid the sandwiches on the table where she had already placed two glasses of juice. She sat in a chair and i took the chair across from her. I caught her watching me. Our eyes held each other’s for a few seconds before she looked down at her food. turning my attention to my own sandwich. I left her to enjoy her meal for a few minutes before I asked the question she had to be expecting. “You want to tell me why you disappeared Friday night when sebastian was watching you?, and why you couldn't have notified one of us about the concert?” She stopped eating and met my gaze defiantly. “because I wanted to go with my friends without having a glorified bodyguard hanging around, Satisfied?” “Not even close.” I hadn’t expected her to confide in me, but it was probably the best I was going to get. what she failed to understand was I wasn't angry about her going to the concert, it was going off alone that upset me. the danger she put her self in not having someone their to protect her. as she pretended to focus on her meal, I came to a decision. We were alone and not arguing for once, and it didn’t look like she was about to kick me out. Why not take this opportunity to get to know her better? “Aren’t you going to get angry at me yell or something?” she asked as I bit into my sandwich. I hid my amusement. “Will that make you not sneak off on your own agan" “No.” “Then let's just have a nice meal instead?” She stared at me, but I pretended to ignore her, enjoying the situation. JJ had secrets, but it was obvious she wasn't going to tell me. well not yet anyway. JJ looked at me “So does my mother have any family left?” she asked, surprising me. “She still has onr living relative; her brother". “Does he know about me?” I thought about Tane, who called every other day to ask about his niece. “Yes, and he is looking forward to meeting you.” I sensed her withdrawing. “He will wait until you’re ready to meet him,” I told her. she picked up our plates and carried them to the sink. She started washing a plate. “I guess it a good thing you guys are immortal, then huh?” I moved to closer to her, and I couldn’t resist leaning in close. “So are you.” She jumped. “god, Don’t do that!” she sputtered, and I chuckled as she started to blush. I took the plate she was washing and started to it, standing so close to her that our arms touched. since I'd met JJ I felt restless and Being near her helped, but it was never enough. Touching her, breathing in her scent, soothed me as nothing else could. I was drying the last dish. When she finally spoke, her question wasn’t one I’d expected. “Have you always done this – hunting vampires? Do all nephilim become warriors?” “Most do, though we have some historians, healers, the elders, then we have teachers and trainers ” I told her, pleased by her sudden interest. “we were created to be warrior's it's in our blood, what we are born to do. I have never wished to do anything else.” “What’s it like to live there? Do you live in communities or on some kind of military base? Do you go to school, when do start training?” she asked “We live in communities all over the globe. The larger communities are more military based, and the smaller ones are well-fortified gated communities. It is not safe for the nephilim to live outside of our communities because they would be vulnerable to attacks,” i said. “Families live together, and the houses are large and comfortable. Children go school until they are 13, and training begins when they reach 15.” She look at me unconvinced, and I wanted her to see that life with our people could be full of love, acceptance and fulfilling. “It’s a good life. There is a deep sense of belonging among the Nephilim, and everyone who live with us is happier than they were living among humans.” JJ grew silent, and I wondered what was going through her mind. When the phone in the hallway started to ring, she rushed to answer it. it was Matty, and by her comments, he wasn’t happy she was alone with me. She ended the call and came back to the lounge room “The vampire cares for you,” I said, earning a hard glare from her. “He’s my best friend, and he has a name, you know.” I shrugged. “We don’t make a habit of being on a first name basis with blood suckers, and I’m sure you know they feel the same about us.It’s just the way it is.” It still blew my mind how close she and the vampires were, and how protective they were of her, even after discovering what she was. Her chin lifted. “Well, I am a Nephilim and I have loads of different sup's as friends, so you’ll just have to get over it.” I didn’t realize I was smiling “That’s the first time you’ve admitted what you are.” “It doesn’t change anything,” she replied. “It’s a start.” I smiled at her, “What else would you like to know about your people?” She frowned like she was thinking what question to ask. “Who is in charge of everything?” I explained the elder's and how they met every 3 months to discuss important nephilim hunter business. she asked if I wanted to join the elder's someday, I scoffed. “not a chance. I have no time and no patience to get through the long meetings. I am a hunter, and that is all I wish to be.” Or it was. “The elder's are good at their job, and I’m good at mine. We may have different opinion sometimes, but we all work towards the same goals.” “What do they think about you hanging around some town, wasting your time with an girl instead of out doing your hunter business?” Did she believe her life meant so little to us? To me? “You think you’re a waste of our time?” "no" she whispered Being near her and keeping her safe were the only things that made sense in my life anymore, but I couldn’t tell her that. “There is an immediate threat in the area. We were tracking it's activity in the area before we found you, it was what brought us to Willo Falls that night.” My answer seemed to unnerve her because I could have sworn I saw a flash of fear cross her face, it was gone as quick as it appeared. Then her brow scrunched slightly and she asked, “Where are you from? “I was born in Paris, and I lived there for the first 20 years of my life until my family moved to Australia and then America". “And what’s Dominic and Shane story? are they your partners?” “ yes, we work as a team as long as I can remember. Dominic is my father and Shane's my cousin.” "oh, so a family business?" "yeah you could say that" I winked “I don’t want to fight with you,” she said. Apparently, tonight was full of surprises. “I’m happy to hear that.” Her eyes widened a little as if she’d realized what she’d said. “I'm not changing mind or anything. I just don’t want us to be at each other all the time.” “You want to be friends?” I asked, enjoying the adorable look on her face as she tried to explain herself. She wrinkled her nose. “Let’s not over do it." she quipped I made a noise between a laugh and a snort, liking this playful side of her. "How about we agree to disagree and take it from there?” she asked “A truce then?” I replied “Yes ” she offered. I extended my hand to her. “Okay. a truce it is.” She hesitated for a second before she grabbed my hand. The same familiar warm tingling of flowed through me, and I wondered if she felt it too. Standing, I smiled at her. “You look tired. I’ll let myself out.” I said looking down at JJ. as I walked towards the front door “JJ,” I called back at her. She looked up at me over her shoulder. “Yes?” she asked breathlessly. “You’re still a pain in the ass.” Her smile made my heart squeeze. God, she had no idea how captivating she was, or what she did to my insides when she looked at me like that. I heard a soft chuckle as she turned away and headed up the hall. as I walked out side sebastian was leaning against a tree across the street. I nodded at him and mounted my bike. I pulled up at the command center and headed straight to my room exhausted I stretched out on my bed with a smile spread across my face and fell into the best sleep I’d had in weeks.
