I patted the empty spot on the edge of the mattress, gesturing to the warm container of food. "Sit down right here and let’s eat first," I insisted, my stomach releasing a loud, empty growl. "I haven't even started taking a single bite of this breakfast yet, and I am completely starving." Ella hesitated, her fingers twisting the fabric of her apron as she glanced nervously at the closed door. "But... won't it be incredibly awkward and dangerous to keep a furious Lycan King waiting around in his office?" she whispered, her eyes wide with worry. "You know how short his patience is." I rolled my eyes, leaning forward to take the plastic fork from her hand. "Fine, we will go see him," I grumbled, my tone dropping into a stubborn pout. "But we are absolutely not rushing through this hall. He can wait a few more minutes." Seeing how much my bandaged hands were trembling, Ella gently slid the container onto her lap. She scooped up a warm, perfect spoonful of the spicy scrambled eggs and moved it carefully to my lips. A soft smile broke across my face as I leaned in, chewing slowly and savoring the hot, rich flavors hitting my tongue. It felt amazing to finally have something real in my stomach. As she prepared the next bite, Ella’s expression shifted, a curious gleam lighting up her eyes. "So... while you are chewing that down, tell me the real story," she nudged softly, leaning her face closer to mine. "What exactly happened between you and this ex-boyfriend of yours to make you look so broken?" The warm food suddenly felt like ash in my mouth. My jaw slowed down, and the playful warmth instantly drained from my face, replaced by a deep, heavy sadness that made my chest tighten. I stared blankly at the crumpled blankets, swallowing the bite with great difficulty. "Well... he was actually busy f*****g my own biological sister," I whispered, my voice cracking slightly as the horrific memory flashed behind my eyes. "On the exact same night I bought that expensive dragon fruit to surprise him, I walked into the room and found them together. That was the night everything started." Ella’s jaw dropped completely open, the plastic spoon freezing mid-air as she stared at me in total, absolute shock. She blinked rapidly, her brain trying to process the scandalous news before a wild, stunned grin took over her features. "Wow..." she breathed out, shaking her head in pure awe. "So, what you are basically saying is that Stefan has officially f****d two biological sisters who completely hate each other's guts. And very soon, you are probably going to f**k two biological brothers who absolutely want to kill each other. Wow, Fedora, that is honestly the most diabolical thing I have ever heard in my entire life!" I couldn't help but let out a small, wet chuckle, even though the memory still stung. I opened my mouth as she pushed another spoonful of warm eggs inside, chewing quickly before responding. "That is a seriously weird and twisted way to look at the situation, Ella," I mumbled around the food, a faint blush creeping up my neck. "But... I guess if you put it in those exact words, then yeah. It really does sound completely crazy." Ella nodded her head quickly, her mind already racing to the next puzzle piece as she wiped a stray drop of pepper from my chin. "But then how on earth did you even end up running away to this pack territory?" she questioned, her brow furrowing in deep confusion. "How did you get from that bedroom to our borders?" I looked away from her, my eyes fixing on the small window across the room. "I jumped straight out of a very high window on that exact same night," I stated flatly, my tone completely casual as if I were talking about the weather. Ella completely jumped back, nearly dropping the plastic container right onto the floorboards. "Wait, what?!" she shrieked, her voice rising to a high, terrified pitch as she stared at me like I had lost my mind. "Just because of a stupid heartbreak over some guy, you decided you wanted to be completely suicidal and end your life?!" "No, it wasn't like that at all," I corrected quickly, letting out a heavy sigh as I reached out to steady her hands. "I am kind of dealing with a dark curse, but it's a long story and I will explain the whole thing to you later. Right now, my stomach is finally full, so let’s get moving before those guards come back with weapons." Ella set the empty food container on the bedside table and immediately slid her arms under my armpits to help me stand up. I gritted my teeth, a soft groan escaping my lips as I placed my heavy, bandaged hands firmly over her shoulders for support. She moved carefully, wrapping one strong arm securely around my waist to keep me from collapsing as my shaky legs touched the cold floor. Step by step, we began walking slowly toward the door, my body leaning heavily against hers. As we shuffled down the quiet, dimly lit clinic hallway, the heavy silence seemed to make Ella thoughtful. She glanced up at me through her eyelashes, her voice turning soft and serious. "What exactly were you thinking back there... right after you watched me fall down from that speeding car into the darkness?" I paused our slow movements for a brief second, my face completely blank before a small, teasing smirk played at the corner of my lips. "To be completely honest with you? I was actually incredibly happy," I lied smoothly, looking away to hide the fondness in my eyes. "I was just thinking that at least I wouldn't have any more loud disturbances from you anymore, with your annoying, dramatic crying happening every single hour of the day." Ella burst into a loud, ringing laugh, nudging her hip hard against mine as we started walking again. "You are such a terrible liar, Fedora!" she cheered, her eyes sparkling with pure affection as she looked up at my face. "With the exact terrified look I saw in your eyes when I first walked into this bedroom today, I can tell you were actually very happy to see me alive. Your expression completely gave you away the second I opened my mouth, so don't even try to deny it." I huffed, rolling my eyes toward the stone ceiling as my cheeks turned a bit pink. "Well... maybe you just don't know how to read a person's facial expressions very well, Ella." "No, I know the real truth," Ella countered, her playful tone suddenly dropping into a deep, heavy seriousness that made my heart skip a beat. She stopped our walking completely, forcing me to lean against the stone wall of the hallway. "I know you were probably having completely sleepless nights worrying about my safety, Luna Fedora. You are truly a reckless, suicidal maniac, you know that? Back in that cave, you were literally begging those terrifying men to let me go free and just take your body instead. Luna Fedora... please, I am begging you, don't you ever try to sacrifice your own life for a girl like me again." I let out a very long, deeply emotional sigh, my shoulders slumping as the weight of her love hit my chest. "Can you just shut your mouth for two seconds and keep walking?" I mumbled softly, trying to hide how emotional I was getting. Instead of moving, Ella stepped directly into my personal space. She reached up with a gentle, steady hand, her warm fingers cradling my chin as she firmly turned my head back to face hers. She stared deeply into my eyes for a long, silent second, her expression filled with pure, fierce devotion. Before I could even ask her what she was doing, she leaned in quickly and pressed her lips directly against mine in a sudden, deep kiss.
