LUCY POV
Michael’s deep, commanding voice still bounced off the dark concrete walls as his heavy boots moved up the basement stairs, his large body carrying Fedora safely away from the c*****e.
I stood perfectly still in the center of the ruined room, my hands gripping my wooden staff as my gaze briefly locked onto Fedora’s face. For a single second, a heavy feeling hit my chest. With the dim candle light dancing across her skin, she looked completely broken, like a helpless young baby who didn't have a single bit of control over her own limbs or her own life. Dark red blood covered almost every inch of her pale body, dripping from her mangled hands and staining her clothes. She looked so close to the edge of death that I wasn't even sure if her heart would keep beating for another ten minutes.
But I didn't have time to feel pity. Turning my head slowly, my eyes locked onto Elda, who was still slumped against the stone wall, clutching her bleeding stomach and trying to gasp for air. A cold, wicked feeling took over my mind.
I rushed at the woman with terrifying speed, my boots kicking up the loose dirt on the floor. Before she could even lift her empty gun to defend herself, I grabbed her by the hair and violently smashed her head hard into the solid rock wall. A sickening crunch echoed through the small basement, and a dark splash of fresh blood filled the stone surface, dripping down the runes. She went completely limp, sliding down into the dirt, but as I stared at her unmoving body, I was still not completely sure if that massive blow had fully killed her yet.
Without breaking my stride, I spun on my heel and rushed toward the main priestess in white, who was crouching in the corner, clutching her ancient book against her chest. The older woman looked up at me with trembling lips, her face wet with tears as she began begging and pleading for her miserable life.
But honestly, who cares about her prayers? I felt a sudden, dark urge to kill washing over my veins anyway, and her pathetic whining only made my blood boil more. Lifting my leg, I delivered a brutal, crushing kick, marching her head straight into the hard wall with all the supernatural strength in my muscles.
I was absolutely sure this twisted priestess had died instantly from the blow. The force of my leg was so extreme that her skull cracked open, and I could clearly see her brains splattered across the dark wall. I paused for a moment, wiping a drop of sweat from my forehead as I looked down at her lifeless body. I wasn't entirely sure why I had chosen to kill her so instantly and brutally without questioning her first, but I guess it was mostly because of her clothes. I truly, deeply hated those pure white robes; they made her look fake and holy when she was nothing but a monster.
My mind quickly drifted back to how I even ended up in this disgusting basement in the first place. Just yesterday afternoon, I was resting quietly in my quarters back at the pack house, nursing my sore muscles and my bruised pride after my intense fight with Fedora in the forest. I was just beginning to relax when a young guard came knocking frantically on my door, informing me that the Alpha had urgently summoned me to the main hall.
A small, proud smile had crept onto my face back then. I quickly rushed to my closet and changed into a much better set of clothes, fixing my hair in the mirror. I foolishly thought that Michael was finally calling me into his office to apologize for how harshly he had shouted at me earlier. At least, I genuinely thought the great Lycan King had finally come to his senses and realized how valuable I was to his side.
But the moment I walked into the grand hall, my face fell. Dozens of heavily armed soldiers were standing in tight, organized lines before his desk, the air thick with tension. Michael stood at the front, his expression incredibly dark and stressed as he made a sudden announcement to the entire room. He told us that Fedora was completely missing from the pack grounds, and he could feel a terrifying pull in his bond that meant something was definitely wrong with her safety. He ordered us to prepare for an immediate, aggressive search-and-rescue mission across the border.
That was the exact reason how I ended up here tonight, risking my own skin and fighting like a wild animal just to protect the one single girl I hated the most in this world. A bitter taste filled my mouth at the thought. But then again, how could I ever say no to the one magnificent man who made my heart beat so wildly? I would follow Michael straight into hell if he asked me to.
I looked down at the blood on my hands, a dark thought crossing my mind. I genuinely hope that Fedora gives up her last breath and dies before they even manage to reach the safety of the pack house. The thought of going back home, walking through the hallways, and being forced to see her annoying face every single day would absolutely drive me into a deep, dark depression.
Shaking the thoughts from my head, I grabbed the heavy fabric of the priestess’s white dress and dragged her lifeless body across the floor. I walked over to Elda's slumped form, grabbing her collar and dragging her along too. I pulled the two women outside into the cold night air, dumping them right on top of each other in a messy pile on the grass because I wanted to burn their bodies last. I wanted to look them in the eyes and be absolutely sure these two fools were dead before I walked away.
Turning back toward the compound, I pulled a small incendiary device from my belt. I started burning each of the wooden buildings one by one, tossing the fire into the windows and watching the dry wood catch instantly. Within minutes, massive, roaring orange flames were rising everywhere around the whole building, lighting up the dark forest sky with a brilliant, destructive glow.
The heat was intense against my skin as I finally walked back to the pile of bodies to burn them last and finish my job. I raised my foot, preparing to cast the flame down, when a sudden movement caught my eye.
Elda slowly raised her bloody head from the dirt, using the very last bit of her remaining human strength to look up at me. Her face was completely ruined, and her chest heaved with a painful, rattling breath, but her dark eyes were still burning with a wicked sharpness.
She let out a wet, coughing laugh, staring directly into my soul as she narrowed her eyes. "I have been watching your movements very closely tonight, warrior," she whispered, her voice cracking and weak as she gestured toward the burning house. "And I can tell from the way you look at her... you absolutely hate that little girl. You want her dead just as much as I do. Michael is a fool, but you see the truth. I am the only person left alive on this earth who truly knows how her hidden powers work, and I am the only one who can actually help you kill her for good. I have a very profitable proposal for your ears."
She paused, a slow, manipulative smirk stretching across her bloody lips as she held my gaze. "Let's work together."
