Chapter 11

Allison and I made our way into the forest after I found out that the both of us had something in common: we loved archery. Well, she was basically a pro at it, and I had taken lessons at some point of my life, but she seemed to be very good at it. Oh, and today I met her dad, and guess what? Allison's dad was one of the werewolf hunters Stiles and I saw at the forest, their supposed leader. And yes, it was very uncomfortable to see him again... ''We're still going shopping, right?'' Lydia asked, raising an eyebrow at me. I chuckled and nodded, not bringing myself to say no. ''Yes, Lydia. We are, I promise.'' ''Great!," she turned to Allison, who was sitting next to me, reading a book. "Allison, you should come with us.'' Why was she even inviting Allison? As far as I knew, Lydia didn't like Allison much... but I could only assume that Allison was starting to grow on her. After all, that's how Lydia and I started. She looked up at Lydia and gave her an apologetic smile. ''I'd love to, but I promised Scott that we were going to study at my house tonight.'' I quietly took a deep breath, trying my best not to show signs of jealousy. No. I couldn't let that bother me. After all, I was supposed to be happy for Scott and Allison. They both liked each other, and, sadly, I couldn't do anything to stop it. ''Oh, well that's too bad. It would've been great that you could join us..'' Lydia said. Allison kept the apologetic smile. ''Sorry, guys.'' ''It's okay. Anyways, I should go now. Mom's probably waiting for me,'' Lydia picked up her stuff and gathered them in her arms. "See you later, guys!" ''Bye'' I shouted when she left, Allison waving. ''Oh, there's my dad,'' Allison said, standing up and grabbing my wrist. "Come on, I want you to meet him." ''Uh, okay,'' I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion as she dragged me along. "I mean, you said he could give us a ride, right?" "I mean, he kind of doesn't know, yet," she shrugged. "But he wanted to meet some of my friends here, anyways, so I don't think he'll have a problem with it." My stomach felt heavy when she said the word 'friends'. She considered me one and I kept trying to look for reasons hate her, even though it was practically impossible to do so. ''Dad, quick change of plans," Allison spoke when we reached her dad's car. Her dad wasn't looking at us, he seemed to be doing something on his phone. "I'm not going home right now. Penny and I are going out for a while, so I was wondering if you could drive us to the forest? And by the way, this is Penny.'' Allison said. Her dad looked up and I almost gasped loudly when I saw who it was. One of the werewolf hunters that was looking for Scott and Derek. I think I froze for a minute and it probably showed, but I tried my best to not look surprised. Maybe he didn't even remember me. I hoped he didn't remember. But something in his look and his smile told me that he did remember. ''Very nice to meet you,'' he said and I nodded, not really being able to get out some words. ''Allison has told us a lot about you.'' ''O-oh," was all I said. ''It's nice to meet you too, Mr. Argent.'' ''Please, call me Chris,'' he smiled once more before looking back at Allison. ''I'll drive you two to the forest, the, but don't stay until too late, alright? Remember, your aunt's coming to visit us today." "Yes, dad," Allison said, then looked at me with a smile. "Hop on." I did as I was told, but I didn't feel too good as I got into the car. Only Allison's car would have to be taken to a mechanic at a time like this, and only Allison would have a hunter as a dad at a time like this... All that time thinking that I wouldn't see him or any of the other hunters ever again, and he turned out to be the new girl's father. And, even better, he was Scott's new crush's father. ''Here we are'' I said once we reached our destiny. ''So this is where you used to practice archery?'' Allison asked and I nodded, glancing at the trees that were almost lined up in front of us. ''Interesting." "Yeah, I had to work with what I had." I chuckled. "I think It's amazing," She smiled and went to tape the targets she brought to the trees. When, she finished, she went and stood behind me. "You go first.'' ''My pleasure.'' I took my old bow and an arrow, while Allison stepped back. I got into position. Even though I hadn't done this in a while, I felt confident doing it. Taking a deep breath, I swiftly let go of the arrow, and it hit the target in the middle. It didn't hit the exact center of the target, but at least it wasn't too far from it. I lowered my bow. "Oh my God, I still got it, kind of." ''Nice!'' Allison exclaimed. ''Thanks,'' I said while I stepped back. "Your turn." She nodded as she stepped in front of the target next to the one I shot, pointing the arrow towards it with a look of deep concentration. He eyebrows furrowed, her body still, she let go of the arrow, which landed in the exact center. ''Wow,'' I said, staring at the target in surprise. "You're really good at this." She smiled at me. ''Thank you. You too.'' "Where did you learn, though?" I asked, handing her another arrow. "My dad, mostly," she answered, getting into position one more time. "What about you?" Of course, her father's a hunter... But, does that mean she'll be a hunter, as well? Brushing that thought away, I answered. "Well, I took archery lessons for a while. I stopped taking them a few years ago, though, and I practiced on my own afterwards, until I didn't find time for it anymore." "I see." she said, shooting the arrow. It landed a few centimeters above hers. As she smiled at me, I couldn't help but to think about the possibilities of her becoming a hunter. So, in order to find out about her life, I started with a simple question. "So, Allison, I never asked you this, but what does your family do for a living?" She seemed kinda confused as to why I was asking this right now, but she answered anyway. "Well, my mom's a buyer at a boutique in San Francisco." "Oh," I nodded. That I kind of already knew, but she didn't mention her dad. It left me thinking if she actually knew what her dad's real job was or if she just didn't know about the whole hunter thing. And as I stared at her, I was getting convinced that she was just clueless. Or maybe she was just a really really good actress. "That's cool." "Yeah, comes with a lot of advantages." she said with a chuckle. I chuckled as well. "What about your family?" she asked, leaning against a tree. "Well," I got into position for the 2nd time. "My mom's a secretary and my step-dad's a pharmacist." "What about your biological dad?" she said just as I was about to shoot. And when I did, the arrow landed on the ground, because that last question caught me off guard. I guess part of me was expecting it, but I tried to ignore the possibilities of her asking that question. I sighed, lowering the bow and turning to her. "My real dad left me when I was just a baby, and I don't know anything about him since, so..." "Oh... Oh wow, Penny, I am so sorry, I didn't know." Allison unglued her back from the tree, with a guilty look on her face. I shook my head, and gave her a reassuring smile. "It's fine, really. It's not like it affects me or anything. I have my step-dad, he was the one who raised me alongside my mom. I don't really remember my real dad." "Have you ever felt curios to know about him?" She asked. I shook my head. "No, not really." *** ''Oh my God! Look at these shoes!'' Karen squealed, pointing towards a pair of shoes that were being exhibited. Lydia gasped, both of them pressing their bodies against the glass. And they looked like maniacs. "I've got to have them...!" ''Guys, you've done the same with the last eight pairs of shoes we've seen. Just buy a pair already.'' I said, rolling my eyes. They both glared at me at the same time. ''Why don't you go to that store you like or something, while we look for shoes?'' Lydia suggested, waving her hand in a 'Shoo' way. ''That's a great idea, Lydia!," I said sarcastically, but Lydia wasn't paying attention anymore, so I left. Once I entered the store and went to the movie section, I just started to enjoy myself, because movies were to me what shoes and clothes were to Lydia and Karen. I didn't have to look much, I just went through the cheapest movies and picked the ones I really liked. "Is that all, miss?" the cashier asked as I put the movies in front of him. "Yes, sir, it is." I said, feeling satisfied. Once I had my movies in a bag, I got out of the store, and seconds later my phone vibrated in my pocket. When I took it out I saw a text message from Stiles: Penny, I'm here at the school's parking lot with Derek. He's injured. Can you meet us here, please? First Derek comes to school today, and then suddenly he's injured? I furrowed my eyebrows and kept thinking about that as I replied: I'm on my way. *** "Oh my God, what happened?!'' I questioned once I spotted Derek leaning against a car, and I found myself running towards him. Lydia had dropped me off at the school's parking lot like I told her to, but both her and Karen were confused as to why I had been asked to meet Scott and Stiles here, and honestly I wasn't too clear, either. But, I couldn't tell them that it had to do something with this whole werewolf thing because they couldn't know, so I managed to convince Lydia to take Karen home and that I would be there later. Once he spotted me, he shook his head slowly. ''I got shot.'' You could hear the weakness in his voice. "What? Who?" It took him a moment to reply. "K-Kate Argent." Argent...? ''Oh dear. Um, so, what do I do? How can I help?" I asked him, not giving it too much importance, since Derek looked like he was about to pass out at any second. He shook his head, once again. ''Scott's already on his way. He's supposed to find a bullet exactly like the one I got shot with and bring it to me. Those bullets contain Nordic Blue Monkshood.'' I looked at him as if he had spoken in Chinese and he seemed to notice. "Wolfsbane." he clarified. "Oh." "With that I can cure myself," he explained and I nodded in understanding. "But if he doesn't find it, you guys are gonna have to cut my arm." ''Wait, what, cut your arm?," my eyes widened. "Are you nuts? We can't do that! There must be some other way that we can help.'' ''There wouldn't be any other way.'' Derek said, breathing heavily, yet looking calm. "Oh God, what have I gotten myself into?" I muttered to myself, placing my hand on my forehead. It was crazy how much your life could change in just a few days... Thankfully, Scott and Stiles arrived a few minutes later, and when they did, Scott was quick to hand the bullet to Derek. ''There you go," he said, catching his breath. "Now, what do we do with it?" "We have to-" Derek started speaking, but he swallowed painfully. He was looking worse by the second. "Um, we have t-" And in the blink of an eye, Derek's eyes rolled back and he hit the floor. With that, the bullet slipped out of his hands and rolled into a hole in the ground (which was so convenient) before we could grab it. ''Oh great, now he's dead.'' Stiles said, starting to panic. ''No, no, he just fainted," I assured him after bending down beside the unconscious Derek and checking his pulse. He still had pulse, but it was barely noticeable. ''We have to get the bullet, though, but... how?" ''Right. You leave that to me, I'll try to get it and you try to wake him up.'' Scott got on his knees and extended his hand into the hole as Stiles and I nodded. Stiles kneeled down next to me. "Okay, so... how do we get him to wake up?" I shrugged. "Don't ask me, I've never been in a situation like this." "Hey Derek," Stiles called, lightly slapping Derek's cheeks. "It's time to wake up, buddy." And that was what he kept doing for 5 minutes straight. "It's not working." he stated. "Really? I thought he was already awake." I said sarcastically, to which he rolled his eyes. I suddenly had an idea, and I was quick to take out an unfinished water bottle that I had inside of my purse. "What are you-" Stiles started asking, but I was already splashing the water onto Derek's face. In one swift movement, Derek's eyes shot wide open and he sat up straight as he looked around, almost in panic, until his look stopped on us. "There we go." I said in relief. ''I got it!,'' Scott shouted all of a sudden, the bullet in his hands, and a proud and relieved grin on his face. He handed the bullet to Derek once more. "Please, just don't faint this time." After Derek had the bullet, he burned the wolfsbane from the bullet and rubbed the ashes into the wound, allowing him to heal immediately. I watched the process, along with the other two, in awe. "Woah." ''Nice,'' Stiles said, eyeing the now healed arm. "I'm gonna have to get some of that." *** When Derek was okay again, he pulled Scott aside, so they could talk. That talk turned into an argument, and it was easy to tell because you could see Scott waving his arms around and looking frustrated, but I wasn't listening to any of it because I was talking with Bryson on the phone. ''If mom figures out that you're not here yet, she'll start to go mad.'' he warned. ''I know. But, you're the best brother ever. Can you cover for me?'' I pleaded. He went silent for a moment before asking what I thought he would eventually ask. ''What do I get in return?'' I pressed my hand to my forehead in frustration and sighed. I knew my brother like the palm of my hand. ''I'll give you five bucks.'' ''Make it twenty.'' ''What? I'm not gonna give you twenty bucks, forget it!'' I protested. ''No twenty bucks, no cover up, compañera.'' he said. I swear, I heard the smirk in his voice... ''Okay, okay. How about this, I give you five bucks, and a donut?'' I suggested. Once again, he went silent, hesitating. ''Okay," he finally said. "I'm cool with that.'' ''Great. I'll see you later, then'' ''Bye.'' after that, the line went dead. *** Scott's POV Walking out of the room Peter Hale was in, I let out a puffed breath. Peter was Derek's uncle, who, I just found out, was still in the hospital after Kate Argent payed some arsonists so that they could burn down the Hale house, with the whole family inside, but Derek and Peter were the only survivors. I didn't want to believe it, but it kind of made sense. The Argents are hunters, after all, and Derek had been warning me about them these past few days. I guess I just didn't want to accept the fact that it was Allison's family who acted in such a cruel way... I was so lost in these twisted thoughts that I didn't realize the moment I reached the waiting room. That was until I felt a hand on my arm. I turned around, seeing Penny standing there. ''Hey,'' she said softly. "Are you okay?" I gave her an assuring smile and nodded. ''Yeah, I was just thinking...'' ''About what?'' she wondered. ''Just... things Peter told me,'' I replied. "It doesn't really matter." Instead of questioning me again, even though I could tell that she really wanted to, she just nodded, and I took the chance to reach out for her hand, lacing it with mine. I squeezed it gently. ''Thank you.'' I couldn't help but say. She raised an eyebrow, then chuckled. ''For what?'' ''For everything, really," I replied. "Thank you for still being here even if things have been really messed up lately. I really owe you a lot.'' She grinned. ''Hey, you're welcome. You still haven't tried to kill me, yet, so It's all good.'' I chuckled and then automatically wrapped my arms around her. She didn't hesitate on hugging back, wrapping her arms around my neck. I slowly ran a hand up and down her back, burying my face in her hair as the scent of her shampoo attacked my nose. When we pulled away, she was looking up at me with a closed-mouth smile, and I couldn't help but to plant a kiss on her forehead. ''Maybe we should go now. Your parents are probably worried.'' I said. She shrugged. ''Maybe not. They were working until late, and anyway Bryson's supposed to cover for me.'' ''Like always.'' I smirked. ''Yeah,'' she agreed. "He definitely didn't ask for anything return." I laughed quietly, there was no surprise there. ''Hey, lovebirds,'' we heard Derek call as he walked towards. "We need to leave, now." I looked back at Penny and she gave me a nod. ''Let's go, then.''
