Next morning, when I arrived at school, I spotted Stiles sitting down on one of the benches, checking out something on his phone. "Hey." Setting my backpack aside, I sat down next to him.
"Hello, Penny," he said without looking up from the screen. "How are you on this fine morning?"
"Oh, I'm great. I feel amazing," I said sarcastically. "How did your little 'investigation' go last night?"
He looked up this time. "Oh, well, you know, it could've gone better. We didn't find anything too big."
"Really? Because I was expecting you guys to show up with some sort of treasure or at least like a treasure map, since you were being so secretive." I said.
He rolled his eyes. "Well, no, we didn't find anything like that, but my dad found me and it was not very ideal."
"Well, I'm glad."
"Also, Scott got bitten by something."
"WHAT?," I stood up. "Wha- what do you mean he got bitten something, what could've possibly bitten him?"
Stiles shrugged. "Beats me. He just told me once we were both at our houses."
I ran a hand through my hair. That little s**t didn't tell me anything. But, before any of us could say anything else, Scott appeared by my side. "Hey."
"Show us the bite." I quickly told him, Stiles standing up and nodding.
Scott didn't say anything. He just looked around, and when he made sure no one was looking, he slowly lifted his shirt up, revealing the bite mark covered in a not so small amount of gauze.
"Oh my God," I said, covering my mouth with my hands, as Stiles muttered a "Whoa". My eyes widened as I looked back up at Scott. ''How did that happen?''
''It's a long story. I was looking for Stiles and... well, something appeared out of nowhere and... I got this,'' he explained. "It looked like some sort of wolf, but not really. I'm not sure about what it was."
''But, wait, wait, what do you mean you were looking for Stiles?,'' I said, looking from to Stiles to Scott repeatedly. "Weren't you guys together? Why didn't he see the thing or get bitten?"
''We kinda got separated at some point.'' Scott replied, scratching the back of his neck.
"Yeah, I mean the body could've been anywhere in the forest, we had to-" Stiles stopped talking once he realized what he had said.
My eyes slowly widened after I realized what he had said. "You guys went to the forest to find a body?!"
"Lower your voice, Penny," Scott said quietly, grabbing me by the arms. "We just wanted to help. I mean, the police were having a hard time finding it and Stiles overheard his dad talking about it on the phone, and-"
"And you guys just had to be the heroes, of course," I rolled my eyes at them. "And all you got was that hideously big bite."
"I guess," Scott said, looking down at the gauze. "But relax, I'm pretty sure this is nothing and It'll heal soon."
I sighed, closing my eyes for a moment. ''Well, you better hope so, because you basically got bitten for nothing, since you guys didn't even find what you were looking for.''
"Yeah, basically," Stiles added. "Unless what bit you was a werewolf and now you have supernatural powers, that'd be pretty coo- oh my God, Lydia's coming."
And indeed, she was, and once she saw us looking she gave a toothless smiled. "Hey, Penny."
"Hey," I said back, Stiles trying to play it cool next to me while Scott was just watching. "You look fabulous, as always."
"I know, right?," she said, looking proud. "Should we head inside?"
"Of course," I grinned, then turned to the other two. "See you later, guys."
And together, Lydia and I walked inside the school, but not before I heard Stiles quietly say, "I love it when she ignores me".

''Okay class," Mr. Harris started once we all got into the classroom, same bored tone as always. ''Before we start, I have an announcement to make. There will be a new student joining us today.''
''New student? How do you think that will be?" Stiles, who was sitting behind me, whispered.
I shrugged. ''No idea.''
''I hope she's hot.''
''Why are you so sure that It's a girl? What if It's a he?''
"My sixth sense is telling me that It's a girl," he answered, making me roll my eyes. "You owe me five dollars if the new student's a girl."
"Deal."
Of course, my luck was just the worst, because soon enough a girl with wavy, dark brown hair entered the classroom, looking as if she was making sure she was at the right place. Please don't be the new student Please don't be the new student...
''Oh, great timing. Okay, class, this is Allison Argent. She'll be taking classes here from now on,'' Mr. Harris said, while Allison just gave us all a small smile. Damn it. ''Miss Argent, you may sit down.''
Allison took the only empty seat left, which was behind Scott. Closing my eyes in annoyance, I took out my wallet and gave Stiles half of the money I had today. "It was good making business with you." he whispered proudly.
"Shut up."
As I turned around, I noticed Mr. Harris had already started his class. Whilst he did, I caught a glimpse of Scott turning around and handing Allison a pen, to which she smiled and muttered a small, ''Thanks''.
Jealousy went through me as I saw his facial expressions change drastically, like he had seen the most beautiful thing on Earth. His eyes had this unusual spark, and I quickly realized that it could only mean one thing: He already liked her.

I entered the bathroom to wash my hands, something I usually did before heading to lunch. Checking myself in the mirror, making sure I looked close to decent, I heard a toilet flush behind me, and Allison came out of one of the bathroom stalls. I looked at her through the mirror, but thankfully she didn't notice. She walked towards the sink next to mine and started to wash her hand as well. We were standing there in silence, exchanging glances by accident as the water was running. Yeah, it was pretty awkward. I cleared my throat, debating if I should start a conversation with her or if I should just keep quiet. I ended up stating the obvious. "So, you're the new girl."
"Yeah." she chuckled, giving me a smile before turning back to the mirror.
"How are you liking the school so far?"
She looked at me, again, and gave a small shrug. ''It's cool. People are nice, so far. I honestly thought it was going to be horrible.''
I nodded. "Well, It's understandable, since you're in a new school and all."
"Mhm," she agreed. Seconds later, she asked, "You take Chemistry with me, right? I remember you because you were talking with that weird kid."
"Yeah," I smiled. "And also, yes, he's a very weird kid, but one has to love him that way."
Her face suddenly filled with worry. "Oh, I'm sorry, is he, like, your boyfriend, or...?"
I laughed at her question. Maybe louder than I should have. "Boyfriend? No, he's not my boyfriend. God no..."
"Oh," she let out a sigh of relief and chuckled, again. "Oh, okay."
"No, Stiles is one of my closest friends, nothing else." I assured her as we both exited the bathroom. The day that Stiles and I date, well, It'd be the end of the world.
"Stiles?," she furrowed his eyebrows. "That's his name?"
"Well, that's, um, his nickname," I said, scratching the back of my neck. "Not really sure where it came from, now that I think about it..."
"Well, what's his real name, then?"
"Oh, well It's-" I couldn't finish the sentence because just then Scott appeared out of nowhere. ''Hey guys.''
''Hi.'' Allison and I said at the same time.
Both of them locked eyes instantly, probably forgetting that I was there for a moment. He was almost drooling as she gave him a shy smile, and it honestly made me want to punch both of them in the face. I quickly cleared my throat. ''Oh, um,'' Allison said, the two of them breaking eye contact. "I'll see you later... uh..."
"Penny." I finished for her, trying my best to smile instead of glaring at her.
She smiled back, and then she looked at Scott one more time before walking away. As soon as she was out of sight, I heard Scott say ''She's beautiful.''
Honestly? At that moment I felt like s**t. ''Yes, Scott, she's very pretty. We get it already, you like her. Stop making such a big deal out of her.'' with that said, I walked away, not letting him say anything else.
I knew I shouldn't have talked to him like that, but it's hard to see the guy you have liked since forever drool over another girl. You know what I mean? It's like you audition for a movie and you've been wanting to get the part so bad, but then they pick another person to play that part and you just sit there, letting depression consume you.
When I made it to the dining hall, the first person I spotted was Allison, once again, getting her food served. Of course. Sighing in annoyance, I didn't have a chance but to stand next to her if I wanted to get my food. So, I grabbed my plate and I stood in line right beside her, and then she looked up and smiled when she saw that it was me. ''Hey there.''.
''Hi'' I greeted her.
"Can I ask you something?," she asked, and I nodded. "Who was that guy that spoke to us a few moments ago?"
''Oh, that's Scott McCall," I answered, but it felt heavy just saying his name to her. "Also one of my best friends."
''Oh,'' she said, nodding in understanding. ''He's cute... like, really cute''
In order to not glare at her, I just focused on the apple in my hand and tried to play it as cool as possibly. ''Yeah, I guess.''
She bit her bottom lip. ''Like... 'I-may-already-have-a-small-crush' cute.''
Those words made me squeeze the apple in my hand, making its juice come out as if I had just squeezed a Twinkie. Whoa! Is that even possible?
Allison looked at the apple, wide-eyed, her expression copying mine. ''Whoa, wha- how did you do that?''
"I, uh..." my jaw had dropped, and I didn't have an explanation. ''I guess I have gotten stronger.''
***
In order to get Allison distracted from Scott, I introduced her to the two people who love to talk the most. ''Hey guys," I greeted the two girls, who were, as usual, gushing over something. Both of them stopped talking and looked up at the same time with smiles on their faces. "Do you mind if we sit here?"
"Oh, not at all!," one of them, Mel, said. "We were just talking about how cute Jackson looks today."
"Of course," I muttered to myself. "Anyway, girls, I want you to meet Allison, she's new here. Allison, these are Mel and Sam, always up to date with the gossip at school."
Allison waved at them, and both grinned and waved back. "Hi."
''So, you're the new girl, huh?''
Allison nodded. ''Of course. We heard that you were really pretty." Sam said.
"And that you had amazing hair." Mel added.
''Oh, um," Allison looked down at her hair and grabbed a strain. "Thanks."
"What products do you use?" Mel asked, her and Sam leaning against the table almost in sync.
Allison looked confused and unsure at the same time. "I, uh, I really don't-"
"Ooh, and where do you buy your clothes?" Sam asked.
"Well, my mom has a boutique and-"
Both of them gasped at the same time before Allison could even finish her sentence. "Your mom owns a boutique? Oh my gosh!"
Soon I knew it, Allison was being bombarded with questions. Like if she could take them to her mom's boutique, and then it escalated to where did she come from, why did she move here, etc. Even so, she couldn't even answer properly because they wouldn't let her, 'cause when Mel asked a question Sam came with another. Allison looked as if wanted to call for help, and honestly I was starting to feel bad for the girl. ''Okay, guys, you can let her breathe now. You can ask questions later.'' I said.
They frowned. ''Okay.''
Allison looked at me and mouthed a "Thanks".
I just smiled and gave her a thumbs up.
I could already tell that I was gonna like this girl, no matter how much I would try to hate her.
