Chapter 9

Stupid Scott, were the only 2 words that ran through my mind as I sat down in my usual chair in chemistry class, next to Lydia, who was playing with a strand of her hair and blowing her gum. She gave me a toothless smile and I soon returned it, even though I didn't really feel like smiling. "Couldn't sleep?" she asked me, eyeing me up and down. I sighed. "Is it that obvious?" "Very," she replied. "You should do your make-up more often, it does wonders to hide the bags under your eyes." "Yeah, yeah, whatever." After she rolled her eyes at me and went back to her business, I saw Scott and Stiles entering the classroom and taking their usual seats that unfortunately were behind me, and my thoughts immediately changed. I could never hate him the way I wanted to. Pretending that I was checking something on my phone, I felt a tap on my shoulder. Closing my eyes in annoyance for a second, I turned around and looked at Stiles, only at Stiles. ''Can I help you?'' I said. ''I still haven't seen Allison today. Where did you last see her?'' Scott said, not allowing Stiles to talk. I rolled my eyes and turned to him with an annoyed look. ''Here. At school.'' When I was about to turn back around, Scott put a hand on my shoulder. ''Please, Penny, I'm being serious. Tell me, did she look okay? She wasn't hurt, or anything like that? She didn't look scared?'' I removed his hand from my shoulder after I realized it was still there. ''I already told you, she seemed fine. Actually, she looked like she could spit rainbows this morning. Why do you care so much, anyway?'' ''Scott had a dream last night where he was on a date with Allison, and then he turned into a werewolf and ended up attacking her inside a school bus, but now he's not sure if it was just a dream or if it actually happened.'' Stiles explained. ''That's... great," I said sarcastically, raising an eyebrow. "She's alive and well, why would you think it actually happened?" "It just felt so real. At this point, I feel like anything can happen, and I'm scared of what I can do now," Scott shook his head. ''And feeling nervous over our date doesn't help, either.'' I almost gagged when he said that last part, and I tried my best to keep my cool and not stab his eye with my pencil. Knowing how pissed off I was, Stiles gave me that 'Please-Don't-Say-Anything-Stupid' look, and I knew that if I made a big deal out of it in the classroom I would get in trouble. So, instead, I fake smiled at Scott. ''Well, just try not to kill her at your date.'' and with that, I turned around, and the fake smile turned into a frown. I felt like instead of me stabbing his eye with my pencil, he was the one to grab it so he could stab me continuously in the stomach, until I was out of breath and couldn't take it anymore. I didn't even know if, at this point, I was jealous because he was going on a date with another girl, or because he managed to get a date this fast... maybe both? Half an hour had passed and I could still hear Scott and Stiles talking in murmurs behind me. It was getting annoying and frustrating, and for the first time I was more interested on what Mr. Harris was saying. Running both of my hands through my hair, I let out a quiet sigh. I could hear the words 'Allison' and 'Date' all over again, and it was driving me crazy. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I turned around on my seat. ''Could you guys shut up for at least five minutes?,'' They both stared at me, stopping at mid sentence. ''I can't concentrate on what Mr. Harris is saying, just because you guys keep talking about Allison and your stupid date.'' ''Hey, it's not a stupid date-'' ''Well, I don't really feel like hearing about it, okay?,'' I cut him off. "So please, just shut up!" ''McCall, Stilinski, Brooke, is there something you three would like to share with the rest of the class?'' Mr. Harris asked, all eyes turning to us. I straightened myself on my seat. ''Sir, I was just-'' ''I don't wanna hear it, Brooke.'' he cut me off. ''But, sir-'' ''I said I don't want to hear it,'' he repeated, making me fold my arms across my chest. ''The three of you, go sit on different chairs. Now.'' I was the first one to stand up and pick up my stuff. With my Chemistry notebook and pencil on my left hand, and my backpack on the other, I looked for an empty seat. "Let me help you with that." a deep voice said. When I looked up, I realized that it was none other than Calvin Williams, one of the school's most popular guys, and one of the hottest as well. He played lacrosse, and he was seriously one of the best players. When he saw me staring at him, he smiled, taking my backpack from my hand and placing it on the chair next to his. "Thanks." I muttered, nervously sitting down next to him. Most girls would rip my throat just to be sitting there with him. Opening my notebook once again as Mr. Harris continued with his class, I could feel Calvin's eyes burning a hole on the side of my face. I've talked to him a few times, but that was a while ago. He was nice and all, but I didn't have many chances to talk to him. When I looked back at him, I expected him to turn away and pretend that he wasn't looking, like most people did when they got caught staring. But, to my surprise, he kept staring, a half smile forming on his face, making my face feel hot all of a sudden. I returned a small smile, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear and turning back to the chalkboard, where Mr. Harris was now writing something. It didn't seem that interesting anymore. "Nice bracelet." Calvin said after a few moments of silence. I looked at it. "Oh, thanks." It was a pretty cool bracelet, actually, and it had three charms: a small silver wolf, a book, and flower that I had never seen before, but it was cute. It was given to me as a gift at some point of my life, but I don't remember who gave it to me. It was given without an explanation, but I have always felt like I need to always have it with me. ''It's interesting... '' he said, and in one swift movement, he leaned closer and gently grabbed my wrist, eyeing it carefully. "What do those mean?" he then asked quietly, referring to the charms. Damn, his eyes were beautiful. "Um... honestly? I don't know, either." was my reply. I couldn't think of anything else to say because my mind went blank just by looking at him. But, it was true, I never really understood what they meant. He chuckled, back into his seat, and I let out a breath that I didn't realize I was holding. "Well, I guess you have homework to do. Or if you'd like, maybe one day you and I could do a little bit of research." And I, in an attempt to be flirty, removed the hair that fell on my face once again, gave him the flirtiest smile I could manage, and said, "I would love that." All of a sudden, Sam stood up from her chair, her eyes big like tennis balls. ''Look!'' she exclaimed as she pointed to the big glass window. All of the students were glued to the glass in no seconds, just to see what she was pointing at, the classroom filling with gasps and murmurs. There was this man, who looked like he'd seen a ghost, with his body all bloodied, being loaded into an ambulance. "Oh, man," Stiles muttered. "What happened to him?" ''It was me.'' I heard Scott say quietly. ''What?'' Stiles and I gave him a confused look. ''I think It's my fault. It's just like in my dream... except... I wasn't attacking Allison. I was attacking that guy,'' Scott said, looking terrified with himself. ''I did it.'' *** ''You seriously think it was you who did?,'' I said at lunchtime. "I mean, just because you're a werewolf doesn't mean you're responsible for every accident or murder that happens out there." ''But the dream looked and felt so real. Maybe it wasn't even a dream, maybe it actually happened. I just thought that I was attacking Allison.'' Scott said. ''Well, I don't think you did it.'' Stiles shook his head. ''Yeah, me neither.'' I added. "Look, It's just like Penny said," Stiles continued, Scott running his hands through his face. "Just because you're a werewolf doesn't mean you're a murderer. Yeah, you have to work on how to control yourself, but Scott, you didn't attack that guy. And as for the dream, it was just that, a dream." "I don't know, It's just that..." But, instead of finishing, he just sighed in frustration. Suddenly Lydia, Allison, Danny and Brian (both who were friends of Jackson's) had joined our table. ''So, who do you think did it?'' Brian asked us, as if they were here with us the whole time. ''Brian, you're in my seat,'' Jackson came along as well and stood next to him. "Get out." ''But, why do I have to get out?," Brian protested. "Why can't Danny move?'' ''Because I'm not the one that stares at his girlfriend's boobs." Danny answered, smirking. With Lydia rolling her eyes and Jackson glaring at him, Brian muttered something that couldn't be heard and left. ''What do you think happened to that guy?'' Allison asked. ''I don't know, but it looked really bad.'' Danny said. ''It was probably just a drug addict who was going to kill himself, anyway, it probably isn't that big of a deal,'' Jackson stated. "Why are we even talking about him, again?" ''It's what everyone in school is talking about'' Stiles said. I could hear the annoyance in his voice 'cause he, of course, disliked Jackson, as well. "Sure, because everyone here has nothing better to do." Jackson rolled his eyes. "Aww, Jackson, are you mad because nobody here talks about you and your expensive car anymore?" I fake pouted at him, to which he gave me the finger. ''Maybe an animal attacked him?'' Allison suggested, going back to the subject. ''It is the most logical thing. Maybe a bear?'' Lydia added, and Allison shrugged. ''Oh, hold up," Stiles said, looking at his phone screen and suddenly standing up. "Guys, I just found out information about the man. Apparently, his name is Garrison Myers, and he was one of the bus drivers.'' ''Garrison Myers?,'' Scott repeated the name, and Stiles nodded. ''I know him!'' ''You do?'' I asked. ''Yeah,'' he replied. "I'm sure of it." Stiles and I stared at each other in worry. Didn't Scott say that his dream was inside a school bus...? ''Okay, can we please just change the subject now? This is all getting weird," Lydia said. Then, turning to Allison with her fake smile that I knew so well, she continued, "So, Allison, Scott, what are we doing tonight?'' Scott and Allison looked at each other, like they didn't know what she was talking about. ''We?'' ''Yeah, you know, on our double date.'' Lydia pointed out, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. ''Well... we don't have anything planned, yet.'' Allison said, but I could tell that she didn't like the idea of a "double date". Of course she wouldn't, she wanted her and Scott to be alone, and obviously Scott wanted the same. ''That's good. How about we go bowling?'' Lydia suggested. Leave it to her to invite herself on a double date. After a moment I heard Allison say, ''Um, sure.'' "Perfect!," Lydia clapped her hands, mocking excitement. Then, she stood up. "Penny, let's go to the bathroom." Standing up as well, I followed her out of the mess hall. When we reached the bathroom, she turned to me and said, "You seriously need to thank me." "For what?" I walked past her and started washing my hands. "For not letting Allison and Scott go on their date alone," she placed her hands on her hips. "Now they won't be able to do anything because I'm going to be there. And I'm gonna make sure that Jackson and I win on that game." I laughed. "Seriously? So, that's why you invited yourself?" "I was trying to help," she pointed out, turning to the mirror to check herself. "And I can assure you that they won't be able to get two inches close from each other without me being in the middle... my mind is so powerful, I love it." I chuckled, shaking my head at her. "And that's why I love you Lydia." *** ''Wow," Karen said, both of us sitting on a bench. "So, Scott and Allison are on a date right now?'' I nodded slightly. ''Yes. Lydia invited herself and Jackson at the last minute, and it suddenly became a double date.'' ''Well, that's... good, right?,'' she said and I shrugged. "I mean, Lydia probably won't leave them alone and she'll be annoying the hell out of them." I chuckled at that. "Yes. That's her plan." Of course, the idea of your crush going on a date with another girl was not good, and the fact that they weren't going to be alone didn't make it completely better. Karen seemed to notice that I was getting uncomfortable because she then started to change the subject. ''So, any other ideas of what mom's surprise is?" When mom and dad called today, they said that they had a surprise, and that they were going to tell us once they got home tonight, which was probably in like an hour. That's why the curiosity was killing us slowly, and it was just leaving us guessing. Bryson thought that we were getting a new house. I thought that we were going on a trip. Karen thought that they got us all tickets to the Katy Perry concert, but that one was unlikely. ''I'm all out of guesses.'' I said, kicking some leaves that were lying on the ground. ''Maybe we're going on a trip to Italy?'' she suggested and I laughed a little. "God, I hope so." We sat in silence for a while until my phone rang. ''Oh, hang on. It's Stiles,'' I stood up and walked away before picking it up. "Hey." "Hey, so, the bus driver just died." Stiles said quickly I gasped. "Oh my God..." "Yeah," he said, staying silent for a few seconds before continuing. "They think it was some 'sort' of wolf that attacked him." I ran a hand through my hair. "Do you think it was..." "Honestly, I'm not even sure anymore." I looked up at the sky, silently hoping that Scott wasn't the one to attack that driver. "Okay, um, let's just stay calm, alright? I don't know what we're gonna do, but let's-" "Penny, mom just texted me!," Karen squealed as she ran towards me. ''They just got to the house, we need to go.'' "Right," I told her. "Stiles, I'll call you when I get home." *** I gave mom and dad each a big hug as a greeting. "How was the play?" ''Oh, it was wonderful. Spectacular. I loved it, but your father wasn't too fond of it." mom said. Dad shook his head. "Too upbeat." I chuckled. ''Hey, so, I know you guys just arrived,'' Bryson stepped in. "But you guys kind of said you had a surprise for us and I can't wait to see what it is." "Yeah, me neither, I've been waiting too damn long." Karen added ''Right!'' mom exclaimed with a grin. Bryson, Karen, and I stood in line in front our parents, like soldiers, waiting for them to tell us what the surprise was. Dad put an arm around mom's shoulder and she beamed at him. ''So, we had been suspecting something for a while now," dad started speaking while mom was still smiling. "And we didn't say anything because weren't sure yet, but today we finally confirmed it and..." "What is it?" Karen asked, obviously getting eager. Both of our parents chuckled. "Well," mom said. "I think It's better if we just show you." The three of us looked at each other in anticipation as mom rummaged through her purse, until finally she found what she was looking for. She slowly unveiled what was wrapped in paper towel. A pregnancy test, with a plus sign in it. ''...Oh my God'' I muttered, staring at it in disbelief. "Wait, wait," Karen said. Her eyes were wide open. "I-is that real?" Both of my parents nodded, and then the three of us were gasping, screaming, and cheering alongside them. They have been wanting another last baby for a while, and their wanting slowly became our wanting, too. And now, finally, a new addition to the family was coming which was probably the most joyful thing that had happened in the past few days.
