I did not really know what Orion and Kael had been doing together over the last few days, but the difference in Kael was impossible to miss. While I sat at the kitchen table reading the news on my laptop, Kael pulled a box of Pop-Tarts from the pantry. There was a lightness in the way he moved now.
He looked more alive and happier than he had been in months. The only person who could be causing that change was Orion.
“What are you guys doing today?” I asked.
He looked back at me while pouring himself a glass of milk. “Not really sure. I think we’re doing more training.” He shrugged. “I don’t really know how to explain it. It’s kind of like preparing your mind to become a shifter, I guess?” He grinned. “It’s actually really cool.”
