“What time is-oh my gosh we gotta go,” Sophie suddenly said before rushing around to grab a jacket and pull on her shoes. Alicia and I followed in suit though we were pretty much ready to go. We ubered to the sushi place and met up with four of our other friends and one girl that pretty much only Sophie and Alicia knew. Her name was Ally and she was absolutely stunning. She had short straight brown hair that framed her sharp jawline and her tight black dress did wonders for her slim body. Even though I knew I shouldn’t compare myself to others, I couldn’t help but feel inadequate standing next to her.
We ate sushi and joked about all the times Sophie had been drunk and done something embarrassing. Like during freshman year when Sophie got waste at a frat party and twisted her ankle. Or when tried to eat pizza off the ground after too many shots at Old Nick’s downtown. We took a bunch of selfies after dinner before walking down the sidewalk to the next street where there were a few bars.
“Where do you wanna go?” I asked Sophie.
“Loui’s or maybe The Strobelight?” Before I could mention the hefty entry fee that The Strobelight had, Ally spoke up.
“Loui’s always had grimy guys. We should go to The Strobelight.” Sophie eagerly agreed and so we made our way to the small club. We stood in line for ten or so minutes before getting in for ten bucks a piece since we were girls. We went inside and immediately found the place lit up by strobe lights and dancing bodies. It was a much smaller club than The Tunnel but it was still very similar to the club I worked at. We made our way to the bar but only two people ordered drinks since the menu was a little pricey. Eventually we moved to the dancefloor and melted into the mass of dancing bodies. I had lost Sophie in the crowd but I was okay with just dancing with Alicia. It wasn’t until Sophie pupped up twenty minutes or so later with an upset expression that I broke away from the dance floor.
“Sophie, what’s wrong?” I asked while rubbing her upper arms.
“Ally wants to go to a different bar. This one is dead right now.” I looked around in disbelief at the crowd around us.
“Well what do you want to do?” I asked while looking back at her.
“I want everyone to be happy,” she groaned, barely audible over the music.
“Don’t worry about that,” Alicia cut in. “It’s your birthday. If she wants to leave then let her,” she added.
“I think what she's trying to say,” I started, “is that you should be having fun, not worrying. Come on, let’s get you a drink,” I said before guiding her to the bar. I even paid for a few shots myself just to hype Sophie up. Alicia recorded us taking shots for Sophie’s birthday and that attracted our other four friends we came here with. We all took a shot while some random girl we found recorded us and then laughed at Sophie’s lack of a poker face in the video. After four or five shots, Sophie had completely forgotten about Ally wanting to leave. We all moved back onto the dance floor and began dancing again, this time tipsy until the shots fully hit our system. As the shots registered in our bodies, the dancing became more dirty which actually made us blend into the late night crowd. Sometime between throwing it back on Alicia to Sophie throwing it back on me, I decided I needed to get some water.
“I’m going to grab some water,” I shouted over the music to Sophie.
“Want me to come?” She asked. I shook my head no even as the action made me dizzy for a second. “Okay!”
I moved off the dancefloor just as “Lollipop” by Lil Wayne came on. Talk about a throwback. I made it to the bar and ordered water, relishing in the cold air that was available away from the dance floor. As I grabbed my water and started to drink it I felt the presence of someone close behind me. When I sat my water cup down and turned around I was shocked to see none other than a handsome brown eyed man.
