That wasn’t the entire truth.
The problem was that the real truth was far worse.
I stayed quiet after Thalia spoke, watching the distrust in her eyes grow while Ragnar stood beside the door looking ready to attack me again at any second.
Eileen was watching too carefully now. That girl noticed too much. And Thalia…She was already too close to the truth.
“How did you even know what was inside the record book?” she asked suddenly.
My eyes shifted toward her. For a second, nobody else spoke. “I saw it that day,” I answered calmly.
That was a lie. The truth was much more complicated than that.
