Chapter 13
Ariana dropped the phone from her hands immediately. Her entire body trembled violently as if she had just seen a ghost. Slowly, she covered her mouth with both hands while trying to breathe properly.
“No… no, this can’t be,” she whispered in disbelief. Her heartbeat pounded painfully inside her chest. With shaky fingers, she quickly picked the phone back up. “Hello?” she called desperately. “Hello?”
Silence. The call had already ended.
Tears rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks while her thoughts spiraled wildly. _His family destroyed yours._ The sentence replayed repeatedly inside her head.
Ariana didn’t even realize the taxi had already stopped outside her apartment building.
“Ma’am?” The driver looked back at her carefully. But Ariana didn’t respond. “Ma’am?
