Cara could hear the ticking of the clock on the wall, counting the seconds as they slipped away. Counting the seconds until Bradley arrived home, and until he would certainly explode... and probably never want to see her again.  Each second felt like torture. The pain medication and food were upstairs, and she was trapped in this lonely dungeon until he returned. Tick, tick. The seconds kept drifting away, never to be seen again. Tick, tick. She tried to steady her breathing to manage her pain, but nothing worked. Tick, tick. Finally the door opened. “I’m down here!” She shouted. The clatter of footsteps came trampling down the stairs. “What are you doing down here?!” He exclaimed in horror. She closed her eyes and leaned forward. Then she began to weep.
