It took all of the strength Cara had left to leave him there. She wanted more than anything to climb down and see his face one more time, to hold his hand and at least get to say goodbye. But she knew he was already gone. There was nothing left of Bradley left in that cell. Only a shell remained. So she steeled herself. His fate wouldn’t be in vain. She headed east, pausing to look through every vent that she passed. The lab had to be around here somewhere. She looked for Bradley’s tracks in the dust again, following them to make sure she was headed in the right direction. It didn’t take long for her to reach the part of the duct that was broader and more sturdy than the rest of the building. She knew she’d arrived. Finally. A section of it looked like it had come loose, it was sagging
