THE STRANGE CASE OF ALESSANDRA CHAVEZ FEBRUARY 10, 2014 The bridge Puentede los Suspiros in Lima's Barranco district was witness to thousands of tourists coming and going across it every year. Maybe they were drawn to it by the same amorous magic which drew José María Eguren, Rafael de la Fuente Benavides, and Julio Ramón Ribeyro to it in their time and was the reason for the name. The water under the bridge had disappeared and made way for a path, which led to the beaches where the ocean met the cliffs in Barranco. Other than that, the bridge was exactly as it was constructed in 1876 to connect the Ayacucho street with a yellow Catholic church, where local fishermen came to pray for mercy and forgiveness. But it wasn't just tourists and infatuated poets finding their way to the Barranco
