Patrick’s POV
Tuesday Morning
Jamie has classes today and I’m glad she asked me to come with her. It saves me having to do it. Being without Jamie causes a strange kind of anxiety to arise in me. I’m excited to see Jamie’s University after hearing so much about it from her both before and after she knew I was listening. I again wake up before Jamie and immediately go to my new best friend; her laptop. I begin to search for a more complicated recipe than yesterday’s breakfast and I settle on waffles since I know Jamie loves them when I had asked her why she liked them she said and I quote ‘because waffles are pure happiness’.
After the first round of waffles are done Jamie comes staggering out of her bedroom with her eyes closed. I guess the warm aroma is guiding her. As she sits down and begins to eat I put my elbows on the table and rest my chin in my hands so as to fully absorb the charming way her cheeks puff up when she chews and how she hums to herself and the way her eyes zero in on the syrup as it pours onto the waffles then down over the bacon and she smirks to herself as if she has created a masterpiece.
It takes Jamie a full fifteen minutes to see me watching her. She blushes bright red and smiles sheepishly at me and with a full mouth says “It’s really good!” In order to save Jamie from further embarrassment I shift the attention from Jamie “So I’m going to go and take my shower then get dressed. You just continue inhaling waffles at an unprecedented rate.” I can’t keep the smile from my face as I walk into the guest room and gather my clothes for the day then make my way to the bathroom.
10 minutes later I walk out and see Jamie still blissfully ignorant of how attractive she is while she eats however if she continues eating like this we are going to be late so I have to break her out of her little fantasy world. “As entertaining as watching you eat is,” Jamie jumps having only just noticed me in the doorway. “we should get moving. We only have an hour and a half before your first class. You should jump in the shower.” Jamie looks at the clock then jumps up and runs into her bedroom.
Jamie is showered and dressed in record time. I sit at the kitchen island and watch Jamie race back and forth around the apartment grabbing everything she needs for class while mumbling to herself. Once she’s done she turns to me and says “Okay all ready let’s go I still have to make an excuse for you to be in classes with me all day.” I get up and follow her out the door and to the car. The drive is about twenty minutes long before we reach our destination. We get to Jamie’s first class before anyone else and Jamie tells me to wait outside while she speaks with her lecturer.
While leaning against the wall beside the door a woman walks towards me wearing an unusually short skirt and a lace crop top when she reaches me she runs a single manicured finger down my chest and asks “Where did you come from?” She looks me up and down assessing me. “I… Um… “ I don’t actually know what to say I came with Jamie but I don’t know what she wants to say about who I am. Before I can respond she continues “Nevermind, it doesn’t matter where you came from all that matters is your here.” She leans her whole body into mine making me nervous. I've never been this close to someone and the overpowering scent of her perfume is making me dizzy.
Then she continues “How about you and me… “
“I’m ready, let's go.” Jamie cuts her off before she can elaborate. Jamie stops in her tracks when she notices my position. “Ugh… It’s you again. Why is it always you?” The woman says to Jamie with a disgusted look on her face that was beginning to annoy me. She slowly peeled her body away from mine then took a step back for which I was grateful. Once she was off of me I quickly moved to Jamie’s side.
“Hello Jessica, how are you?” Jamie says awkwardly while rubbing her forearm. The woman- Jessica shifted her gaze between me and Jamie then chuckling said “Don’t tell me you two are together because I know someone as attractive as you wouldn’t be into someone as unattractive as Jamie.” The disbelief in her tone combined with the sullen look and Jamie’s face quickly turned me from annoyed to infuriated and before I could stop myself the words had already flown out of my mouth “Don’t ever talk about Jamie that way!”
Both of their eyes snap to me in disbelief while Jamie’s eyes shine in appreciation Jessica’s flicker between anger and embarrassment but I can’t bring myself to care about either and without another thought I grabbed Jamie’s hand, pushed past Jessica and walked into the classroom. I took a seat and pulled Jamie down into the chair next to mine. Jamie stared at me for a while after we sat down many emotions flickering in her eyes too fast for me to pin down any one.
Jamie pulled her gaze away from me shortly after the teacher started the lesson although her gaze slid to me intermittently throughout the class. Any time our eyes met she would blush and quickly look away. Once I calmed down from the anger I was feeling I was able to listen to what the teacher was talking about and I suddenly became very engrossed and engaged. By the end of the lesson I was beginning to realise why Jamie loved this course so much.
