Patrick’s POV
As I walk through the halls of the hospital I see Jamie’s family walking out the front doors so I make my way back to the ICU where Jamie is but when I get there I can’t find her and I start to panic. Before my panic attack can reach heart stopping proportions a nurse recognises me and tells me that Jamie has been moved to a room since she is stable, she tells me the room number and I make my way over there. By the time I get there Jamie is asleep and looking perfect. I got so used to watching her from afar that the thought that I can reach out and touch her overwhelms me and before I can stop myself I press a kiss to her forehead and tuck her hair behind her ear. I find myself a chair to sit in and let myself drift off to sleep.
I wake up at around 12.00am I look to my right to take a look at Jamie only to find the bed empty. Before I can panic too much I hear the door to the bathroom open and I see Jamie walk out breathing a sigh of relief. I move to her and help her get back into bed. “Are you feeling any better?”
“A little bit, thanks for asking. And if you don’t mind me asking. What are you still doing here?”
“I have some things I need to tell you. Part of me wishes I didn’t have to tell you but I don’t know what else to do.” She looks so worried that I really wish I didn’t have to tell her anything but I need her help. I have no where to stay nor do I have any money and if anyone is going to believe me it’s her.
“I didn’t just meet you last night and I wasn’t just walking by. I’ve actually known you for a long time and you’ve known me you just didn’t know it. I know this all sounds crazy but just please hear me out, okay?”
“Okay.” she sounds just as worried as I am but for a different reason.
“I’ve lived in that building for the past 55 years…” I see she is about to interrupt so I put up my hand for her to stop. When she closes her mouth I continue. “For the most part it was pretty boring, just people watching all day everyday for years. Then one day a short red head walked past me, she had glasses and freckles and she lit up the whole room. She sat down and took out a book and started to read and she read like that for the whole day and I couldn’t take my eyes off her then she left and everything was dull again. Until a week later when she came back then a week after that she came back again and again and again. She quickly became the best part of my week. I started to long for her when she wasn’t there and dread her departure when she was.”
I look up smiling hoping to put Jamie at ease a little when her shoulders relax I decide to continue “When I heard from the staff that you were going to be working there I was on top of the world I could see you everyday. Then you started to stay long after work was over and I was just crazy enough to hope that you enjoyed my company as much as I enjoyed yours. Listen I know this sounds crazy but…” Just then a nurse knocked on the door and came in “Sorry to interrupt but the police sent over your things from the crime scene and here are your clothes from last night sir.”
“Thank you.” me and Jamie said in unison.
I take the bags from the nurse and open Jamie’s art bag and pull out the evidence that I’m not where I’m supposed to be. “I’m not from this world.” I say as I hand it to her and she takes a minute to realise what I’m showing her, then her eyes go wide and her mouth hangs agape. She shakes her head as if trying to push away the truth. I take my clothes and go into the bathroom to change and let her process.
When I come back she is in her same position but when i close the door her head snaps to me she then looks me up and down realisation and amazement settles onto her face. “You- I- That can’t be possible” I walk towards her “Do you believe me now?”
“I kind of have to don't I. The proof is right here, I have so many questions… “ Right before she can ask her questions her parents and Sophia come into the room and I move to the back of the room to give them space.
Jamie looks at me with a determined look in her eyes like a promise to finish this conversation. I nod to her then back out of the room and begin to wander the hospital yet again.
Jamie’s POV
Turns out surgery takes a lot out of you almost as soon as I get to my room I start to drift off but just before I fall asleep I thought I felt someone press a kiss to my forehead but it must have been my imagination.
While asleep I dream of getting shot. Everything looks blurry but I see three figures stalking towards me. I see one move and I hear a loud bang then I hit the cold floor. Before I can be cold too long I am surrounded by warmth. I hear someone’s mumbled speech but it comes clearer and clearer “... leave me, we haven’t even gotten to know each other yet.” The voice is sweet and caring and it makes me want to open my eyes and I struggle to get them open. I see one thing clearly looking down at me is Patrick looking gorgeous as ever. His eyes have an intensity that would be impossible had we met just last night. However his face holds a familiarity that goes back a lot longer than I’ve known him.
