Patrick’s POV
It’s been great getting to know Jamie over the past couple days. I'm glad that there are still things for me to learn about her. Jamie also seems very interested in learning things about me which makes me happier than ever. Jamie gets out of the hospital today so we are packing up all her belongings. I look up at her and see she is concentrating very hard as she starts tugging her bottom lip between her teeth which causes a tingling warmth to spread through my lower abdomen. If she doesn’t stop then I won’t be able to resist kissing the life out of her.
“Hey what are you thinking about so hard?” I ask in an attempt to distract both her and myself. She still seems a little out of it and she doesn’t answer right away but she quickly shakes herself awake then nods and says “Yeah, just thinking about work tomorrow. You’re coming with me right?” I see something spark in her eyes and I can only hope that she hates being away from me as much as I hate being away from her. “Yeah of course I mean it’s not like there is anything that I would prefer to be doing” in an attempt not to intimidate her with my overbearingness I added “not that I have anything else to do.”
“Good. Well my mom dropped off my car yesterday so once we get everything in the car we can be on our way.” As she finishes speaking she reaches down to pick up one of the bags as if I would let her work when she just got out of the hospital. I walk towards her and take the bag that is by her foot when she looks up at me. I only then notice how close to her I have become. “Allow me. You just got out of the hospital.” In an effort to clear my head of her overwhelming scent of vanilla and chocolate I pick up as many bags as I can, they aren’t that heavy so this isn’t hard.
I get all the bags down to the car in two trips then Jamie tries once again to help load the bags into her car but I raise my hand to stop her then I say “I could never allow a lady to perform manual labor having just gotten out of the hospital it would be a disgrace.” Jamie laughs a little then steps back with her hands raised in surrender. Once I’ve packed everything into the car Jamie jumps into the front seat and I jump into the passenger seat and take in my surroundings the only other car that I’ve been in was the ambulance and I wasn’t exactly focused on anything but Jamie at that time.
The car ride passes by quickly and once again Jamie tries to help me unload the car to which I once again refuse and she throws her hands up into the air and walks into the apartment. I chuckle at her frustration and begin unloading the car. I manage to finish in two trips and put all of Jamie’s bags in whichever room they belong in. Jamie comes out of what she told me is the guest room and looks surprised to see me sitting at the table waiting for her. She shakes her head as she walks up to me then asks “What are you superman? How did you finish so fast?” I understand the concept that she thinks that I finished exceptionally quickly but the way she said it makes me believe that superman is a person rather than two words.
“Who’s superman?” Jamie chuckles a little as though my question made no sense however she answers it anyway “Um... He’s a superhero from DC comics he was born on another planet his parents sent him to earth when their planet; krypton explodes and he gets powers from the yellow sun of earth so he uses his abilities to help people and in order to keep his ear to the ground he becomes a reporter and he has an arch-enemy Lex Luther and he has a girlfriend that works at the newspaper called the daily planet with him her name is Lois Lane. He’s pretty awesome I mean not as awesome as The Dark Knight but that’s a subjective opinion.” I begin to sort through Jamie’s overload of information about comic book characters.
From what I can gather Superman is an alien who came to earth and decided to help people with his special abilities, however according to Jamie he is not as cool as The Dark Knight whoever that is. Before I can delve too much further into it Jamie says “Anyway we can explore that another time. For right now are you hungry?” Jamie seems excited to be able to teach me this stuff.
I think about Jamie's question then realise I still don’t know what it feels like to be hungry so I come up with an idea “I don’t know. I still don’t know what that feels like so I’ll just eat when you eat.”
“That sounds like a plan. I’m hungry so what do you want to eat? Anything you want just no cucumbers” Jamie pretends to shudder so I have no choice but to roll my eyes. Then I think and say what I have been wanting since we left the hospital “Chocolate chip cookies.”
“Not a meal but I like how you think. Cookies it is.” Jamie pulls some dough out of the freezer and puts some in the oven then turns and looks at me as though she just had the best idea ever. “You know what would go great with choc chip cookies… Hot chocolate. I can’t believe I never had you try some. It's only the best hot drink ever and anyone who says otherwise is a fool.” She holds up her pointer finger as though she is teaching me something.
